Seattle was pretty much unbeatable at this time. Just shows how impressive the win was.

We dont have heat like that in Seattle. Players were cramping up and getting hurt and dehydrated. Chargers had an amazing home field advantage that day. They had Richard Sherman's number too. I remember the rest of that Sunday just being a really bad day.

What made this game sweeter as a charger fan was that NOBODY gave us a chance. Seahawks had just won the superbowl by blowing out the broncos who had the "greatest offense of all time". Then before this game week 1, they shutdown aaron rodgers and arod didnt throw to shermans side all game. Everyone thinks the L.O.B. is making the case for goat defense, and the old school HOF connection of philip rivers to antonio gates just picks them apart and exposes them! I was at this game too!!!
Exactly. I remember going into the game & everyone was super high on Seattle giving SD no chance. This was also the game where Gates let everyone know he's not done. People were calling saying he was finished but then he went on to have 12tds that year
One game doesn’t define a team...their stats over the course of 2012-15 make it very hard to debate them being less than one of the greatest defensive units ever assembled. Rivers beat them here, but so did a few other teams that season

Antonio Gates and Rivers owned the Seahawks that game. Sherman didn’t get beat a lot however it didn’t matter because they were beat as a team. The chargers offense owned the daylights out of Seattle that day.

I remember watching this game live wearing my powder blue Antonio Gates jersey, I was so relieved that the Chargers beat the Seahawks because the Chargers were (and still are) my favorite team and at the time I hated the Seahawks. One of the best games I've watched live personally

Rivers is criminally underrated. 9th all-time in career passing yards, 6th in TDs, 11th in TD/INT ratio, 10th in completion %, 8th in passer rating, etc.
Doesn't help that Rivers has plenty of chokes on his record as well.

Rivers put up the best performance of any qb versus prime legion of boom. 3 tds/ 0ints and a 120 rating and the W. People don't realize the incompetence of the chargers org. Rivers is in the Brady,brees, rodgers class...those guys have just had completely better organizations(brees was a sub 80 passer rating guy with the chargers...then becomes the greatest passer in history on the saints) shows just how bad rivers has had it. Rivers play style isn't "sexy" to watch like Rodgers running around slinging it. But only Brady can match rivers pre-snap, control of line of scrimmage, defense reading and pure competitiveness. Virgil green says that rivers reminds him of Peyton Manning. Field general. Masters of the game from a mental standpoint. Those are the traits that don't show on the camera and why guys like Rodgers and Wilson, both respectively great players, get all the love because they can run all over the field throwing pretty balls on the run. Rosgers may have the prettiest #s, but he's nowhere near rivers level from a mental standpoint. Brady, Peyton and rivers represent pure football IQ and will pick defenses apart with perfected execution. Rodgers and Wilson represent god given physical superiorities. They're like improv masters. If a play breaks down, no one can make something out of nothing better than them. But if you want your offense ran to perfect execution....give me Brady or rivers all day.
Philip Rivers is such a great combination of football intelligence & backyard instinct. It's sad he can't beat the Patriots. Never forget tho he played a game with no ACL

One of my favorite memories as a charger fan. No one gave us a chance and yet rivers showed his unrecognized greatness. And keenan allen showed he was of the elite, or as good as any receiver around this time, and he TORCHED sherman all game. Even tho he didnt get throw too as much as he should have, every time sherman tried man covereage, he skewered him

Danny Woodhead suffered a season-ending injury a week later in Buffalo and the Chargers never really recovered. From what could've been an 11 or 12 win season saw them go 9-7 and miss the playoffs.

San Diego would reel off 4 more wins and go 5 - 1... then they had a bye week... at some point they would play Miami and get totally crushed... and they would finish the season 9 - 7, missing out on the playoffs in a win-and-in situation and losing the last game to a Chase Daniels-led Kansas City.
