Sproles was an absolute beast that night, but the true MVP of the game was the punter, Mike Scifres. He absolutely pinned back Manning and co in almost every occasion inside the 10. That last punt to the 1 yard line with 3 minutes left was probably the best one I have ever seen on a football field. I loved those Chargers - Colts games between 06' and 10'. All of them were great and SD had Payton's number in the postseason.
I remember back then even the Colts players gave props to Scifres too. You don't see a lot of punters in the highlights, especially that many in just 1 highlight.
Never forget the 2005 Indianapolis Colts "perfect season." They were 14-0, looking to go 15-0.... until the Chargers came to town and took them out 26-17 at the RCA Dome. So many memories, I can't believe how fast it's all gone by.

Its a playoff home game, when the team was good enough to win the division (or be a WC team). 11 years later and here we are again. Could this be the year?
IMO The biggest blunder in Charger history was when Gene Klein sold the team to George Spanos. From there it was a gradual shift from San Diego back to LA. The Spanos family were never committed or loyal to San Diego. Does any Charger fan remember one of the Spanos members (George or Dean) saying that, "it was a great day for Stockton"? He said that right after the Chargers AFC championship victory over the Steelers sending them to their only SB appearance. If that didn't reek of disloyalty, then I don't know what loyalty means. Anyway the Spanos family just bid their time and allowed the community to turn sour with all the Spanos vs San Diego intrigue until the Spanos got what they wanted and moved away. An aside, I wonder if anyone noticed the subtle changes to the Chargers gear. About a year or two before moving, the lettering of the name San Diego kept getting smaller and less conspicuous until all you saw was the name Chargers or the Bolts logo. Too bad the San Diego community wasn't able or willing to purchase the team from Gene Klein when the opportunity presented itself. Unlike the Green Bay community and the Green Bay Packers. They own the franchise and ensure it stays in Green Bay! Good luck in Ram and Raider country Spanos. And if you feel compelled to move the Chargers back to SD just sell the team to loyal San Diego buyers and then high tail it back to Stockton or wherever you really call home! And good riddance!
Its stupid cause Spanos could of just paid for the stadium. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Spanos have more than enough money to pay for the stadium

I was coming down to say that too. There aren't many punts I see in the current game that even put a team inside the 20. Everybody just bombs kicks out of the end zone it feels like.

@@RamenRobbie yeah you're probably right I wasnt paying much attention to football at that point. Actually the first game I remember watching was the saints Vikings championship game so that one stands out a lot more to me
@@RamenRobbie Hmm this game didn't generate that much discussion regarding the OT rules. The Saints Vikings game is really the one that pushed that discussion forward. Seeing how TD's still end OT no matter what I doubt this game had much if any affect on the rule changes.
I know people love to create the narrative that Peyton was a choker because of his 14-13 playoff record, but this was not on Peyton. He committed zero turnovers, and had a 90.4 Passer Rating which was still good then. The Colts lost because LT and Sproles led a rushing attack that gashed the Indianapolis for 167 Yards, and 5.1 Pre Rush. The Colts averaged just 2.9 Yards Pre Rush. Also, the Colts Field Position was rough as they had six drives start in their own twenty. Plus, Peyton never got the ball in overtime. There were plenty of playoff games, where the Colts/Broncos lost in spite of Peyton Manning, and this game was one of those.
The Unpopular Opinionated Tennessean it’s facts. Sure you can pick a few games where he was a big reason they lost but out of 13? Honestly MAYBE 5 MAX and that’s if you’re reaching. Brady has been luckier than Peyton in regards to his defense getting key stops or special teams play
The narrative is that Peyton always could’ve played much better in their losses. Yeah he didn’t commit any TOs but he wasn’t putting up any great stats either like he was known for in the regular season. But still big credit for SD for winning this tough-it-out game. -big peyton fan
I've been a Chargers fan since they left L.A. and returned. I never ever gave up on them even at their lowest times. The "Cardiac Kids" are always fun to watch because you never know what kind of insane game they'll be in.
Sproles was elite this game. Shifty on the ground and clutch in the receiving game as well as an awesome punt returner as well; Sproles was just all over the place.
@@cidiose Yeah, I can tell you didn't actually watch any of the Colts playoff games with Manning. He wasn't the reason the Colts lost most playoff games. Look at his 2007 season, he passed for 400 yards, 3 TDS, 2 INTs against the Chargers and Loses.....the next week Tom Brady passes for 209 yards...2 TDs....3 INTs.....and wins. In 2010 Manning had the Colts ahead with less than a minute left......moron Jim Caldwell lets the Jets get a big kickoff return then calls a time out allowing the Jets to get one more pass play to get into FG range (the Jets beat Tom Brady the next week BTW). In 2005 Vanderjaht missed a FG, the first he missed at home all season. In 2008 on 3 and 2 the Colts line couldn't stop the Chargers from blowing up the play and Manning had to quickly thrown the ball away, which resulted in a punt. The Chargers tied and in OT Manning never even touched the ball. in 2000 JIm Mora made Manning take a knee as time ran out instead of trying to get into FG range. The Colts lost in OT. Then there was "Jumpball Joe" in 2012 who threw a bomb and the Broncos defense let them score then they lost in what, double OT? I could go on....and Manning has had some playoff stinkers just like every other QB that made the playoffs as many times as he did.....but he was the reason his teams were in the playoffs in the first place. I mean....in 2011 the Colts went 2-14 without Manning.....the Patriots without Tom Brady are 14-7. Look how the Broncos fell apart after he retired even though they still had that defense.

4:23 has some amazing DL spin moves, but the OL and RB pick him up well enough with a switch to get a pass out. That was amazing on both parts and i feel it's over scene a lot and needs to be recognized.
Love these old videos brings back memories...thank u 🤘
I will never forget how Sproles played in this game. It embodied his mentality as a player. He was a favorite in San Diego, New Orleans, Philadelphia for a reason.
Man I can’t even lie I love my Chargers so much 😭😭😭 ⚡️
This was my first ever NFL game. What a game!! The energy was unreal!
Man. Back when the NFL was good.
I was at this game. As a season ticket holder and have been to many games since the 80s never heard that stadium that loud when Sproles scored. It was awesome!!
And now Rivers is playing for the Colts.
I was 18 yrs old when I saw this. I was Full of hope loving this franchise. I miss that
I had no idea Madden was still calling games in 2008
It was actually his last playoff run as a commentator.
@@TheMasterQuests Damn, right in my feels
haha sorry man@@fixxxer3456
Miss these old school smash mouth games
That was the ‘Magic’ San Diego Chargers fans have for this team. They belong in SD
i remember missing the majority of the game sleeping, but this is still a classic. Thanks to NFL Throwback!!
Marvin Harrison's last game as a Colt
Larry Price tony dungy’s last game with the Colts too I believe
I remember Harrison choking a ball boy and shooting another man. Good riddance. Disgrace to football. How he is in the hall of fame is a beyond me!!
Ryan O'Neill I think his 1100+ recs, 14500+ yards, and 120+ TDs for his career had something to do with it....idk though could be wrong
@@z4ng3tsu1ch1g0 I'm talking about character they shouldn't allow him in
lets not forget bout the unsung hero Mike "say hello to inside the 10yard line" Scifers.
Can you do more of meet the- series?
Listen to that crowd!! San Diego Is the Chargers home.. This wasn't an amazing year we went 8-8 that year, and still made the playoffs and the fan support is great!
Bolt Tf Up!⚡⚡⚡
Like Jamal Williams said “game over “ this brings me a lot of joy watching this again reminds me of the peak of San Diego chargers football
Damn how weak was the AFC WEST that year??? Lol!! 8-8 and hosting a 12-4 colts team! Ha gotta love playoffs!
What a beautiful night that was at the Q . One of my favorite games I’ve been to live
That was the game that ended Tony Dungy’s career in Indianapolis! 😂😂😂
Brennan McKinney then the colts go to the Super Bowl the next year should’ve stayed they would’ve beat the Saints that year cadwell was terrible that game
@@ogkur6311 I remember that game and the announcers said that he was never nervous during games. Lmao bull shit😂
@@brendonkeen1974 who u talking about Caldwell??,
@@ogkur6311 yeah they were hyping him up that game saying how he is always so calm and he coached like shit
@@brendonkeen1974 st8 boo boo no adjustments made the whole game defense playing 5 yards off the receiver ... brees dinking and dunking the whole game.... that shit made me so mad 😠
I was at this game. We didn't leave for like 30 minutes after OT. We stayed and cheered
This game, and the NFC championship the following season, are what led to the changes to the NFL overtime system.
This game was decided by a touchdown though, so is unaffected by the rule change.
Yeah this had nothing to do with that
@@ianstuart371 Tom Shumate But after this game I remember there was a lot of discussion about changing the rules because the Colts never got to touch the ball in OT. Everyone thought it was unfair that their high powered offense didn't have a chance. That's what I was getting at.
This game will forever be the Mike Scifres Game.
LT only rushed for 25 yards on that game
@@ernestogastelum9123 He only got the ball five times, so 5.0 Pre Rush.
The narrative is that Peyton always could’ve played much better in their losses. Yeah he didn’t commit any TOs but he wasn’t putting up any great stats either like he was known for in the regular season. But still big credit for SD for winning this tough-it-out game. -big peyton fan
Brings me back, I was there Section 35 Row 21 Field level
Anyone else miss the old NBC design??
Love these old videos as a 90's baby
when the charger fans showed up to the games
Before they were driven away by the inept Spanos Family....
jasona9 ya the Spanos family is the most hated team owners
jasona9 excuses , SD is a mediocre sports town
ItzJayScott J. Cole is dogshit
Tyler Joaquin must have been dropped when you were younger
Mike Scifres!!! What a beast of a punter . This game shows how important is having a good punter for your team
Back when officiating was alright in the league
Daniel Tapia true
Ehhhhh. Not sure what you're watching. They still cheated for certain qbs like manning or that ftm brady
No it wasn't haha
That did not look like PI in overtime, huge call
Chunon Bartfield it was holding not pass interference
I've been a Chargers fan since they left L.A. and returned. I never ever gave up on them even at their lowest times. The "Cardiac Kids" are always fun to watch because you never know what kind of insane game they'll be in.
Damn and the Colts were 12-4 too
Sproles was elite this game. Shifty on the ground and clutch in the receiving game as well as an awesome punt returner as well; Sproles was just all over the place.
The teabagger king of one-and-dones. Lost to an 8-8 team.
It's no like the Colts were 18-0 and lost to a 10-6 six seed or anything.
😂😂😂
Manning and his usual one-and- done chokejobs in january...
@@Vichedges i watched plenty of colts playoff games and they won inspite of manning as well. He has a SB to show for it. He was not elite in the playoffs and missed plenty of plays he shouldn't of
probably my all time favorite game to watch, that game winning pass to Sproles after he redeemed himself from the end zone fumble had me and my entire family screaming in the living room.
I miss John Madden commentating.
I remember watching this game , and i had a terrible cold and was literally outta my mind with excitement and had enjoyed the game so much , jumping up n down , i actually sweated the cold right out ..lol ! Loved how we sent Manning home a few times ! These Chargers /Colts playoff games were amazing ! Sproles with 328 All Purpose yards !! Crazy ! One thing about this game , wss when Sproles had the fumble into the endzone , and the Colts recovered , we survived it here but it was always 1 or 2 plays like thst that KILLED us !! Heartbreaking man ! But Herbert bout to lead us to our 1st SB finally !! I JUST KNOW IT !!#GOBOLTS
Peyton Manning the REAL G.O.A.T!
Mr Q Ceaz yeah at choking
Maybe the Chargers would still be in San Diego if y'all had built a MODERN NFL stadium for the team. Super Bowls every 5 years, a supportive fan base. Can't blame them for leaving.
If I ever invented something and became a billionaire like Bezos; I'd buy the Chargers and build them a new stadium in San Diego, where they belong!
Sproles is rarely talked about… My God he needs to get more credit!
The MVP loses in the Wildcard. Ain't that something.
Manning was so overrated it's not even funny
@@Studderzify I though Manning was a great QB just choked alot
Here’s to hoping that we can see them both in two weeks 🤞🏽
