    Had one. Loved it! Somehow it got lost and I had a hard time relocating a replacement. I used it for fence and deck assembly, among orher things. I am re-tooling to start doing DIY projects in my home, and wondered if these still were being manufactured. That’s how I wound up here.

    I have two, both got to the point the insert would not come out of the body of the tool. When you push down the ring, the insert does not come out. Both times it happened with the pilot and countersink inside the body.

    Used to have one, used it on -site for a while, before someone “borrowed “it, worked well, kept it lubricated with WD40, so it worked smoothly at all times.

      do you know if u can buy the little black screws that hold the bits in? do you know if u can buy just the insert that goes into the main yellow bit?

    I agree with you that it is a great tool to have in my toolbox, but as you stated in your video it does wear out ,the grub screws are soft metal and wear out , would you have any idea what size grub screws are needed to replace them

    good tool i have one but now when boring out, the bit doesnt stay in the holder when taking it out of the wood so its more or less useless.

    Stanley tools is their parent company. They made those years ago almost looks identical to that one. I have 4 of them and they are the best thing ever.

    I use these flip drives a lot and the dewalt works great for a short time then the holding mechanism starts getting lose and at the end it doesn’t hold the bit anymore

    • @hammerandhome
      @hammerandhome  Год назад

      I have noticed that. Other brands like makita have a ball baring, but over time those fail as well

  • @mathewdhaupt

    The flip drive is a good idea but they fail to hold the quick change bit. Is there a way to fix them?

    • @hammerandhome

      Some brands have a set screw. I really like the makita

  • @michaeldequatro1012

    can you use an impact driver with that?

    • @hammerandhome
      @hammerandhome  3 года назад

      Unfortunately no. It won’t fitbin the chuck. Only works on drills.

  • @RikoRey92

    If they make it for impacts it would be great

  • @rogermoiny2827

    Do they make these for the 1/4” impacts?

      I’m pretty sure makita still makes one

      I have the old version, not sure if they have updated it. it's better than the Dewalt for sure

    Is the drill bit able to be shortened?

  • @mrvang8077
    @mrvang8077 2 года назад

    That drill flip could use improvement to make it fit different drill bit size and not just limiting to one size only.

    • @kentsimpson8804

      It will - the Allen set screw comes out and it will accept any 1/4" shank hex bit

    Work good and handy. Are prone to clog with schmoo and dust rendering them bound up and a source for adult language!

      thats true

    • @mangmans
      @mangmans 2 года назад

      What is happening if you look on the middle 6 hex bit it gets ridged, if you get a file or a grinder(very carfully) u can file it down so it doesn't stick. I'll probably try the wd-40 idea see if it helps.

      I have a couple of these as well as the other makita type with impact drive bit. As a finish carpenter I have used these extensively. I would prefer if Dewalt had a impact drive shank, but then they would probably wear out quicker. I find the newer makita type strip at the shank quite quickly....

    • @joshyscoggins6976

      That being said I find this kind of bit indispensible....

    The older style was better, it had a 1/4" hex shaft for use in drills or impacts and it had the allen key on the rear of the shank. Dewalt screwed up with this design.

  • @tk2097
    @tk2097 3 года назад +3

    Shame you can't use it on an impact driver, pointless tool really.
    You might aswell just have a drill bit in your combi drill as honestly who uses a drill over an impact driver?

    • @hammerandhome
      @hammerandhome  3 года назад

      I agree, i wish it would fit, makita has one that works with impact guns. if im drilling holes and screwing i'm typically using two tools any how.

      I have a Stanley that’s about 15 years old now. It fits the impact driver and also has the alien key incorporated into the shaft. I wish I could find another one. It’s a Stanley 10 in 1 set.

      Allen key!

    • @tk2097
      @tk2097 3 года назад

      @@maddawg383 yeah, I was going to grind it down to fit normal hex bit until the attachments all started pulling out because the alien (😂) key couldn't tighten enough to lock in the drill bit and counter sink.. this needs allot of adjustments but I'll do it when I'm bored one day.

      I just found out Lowe’s has their own flip bit for 10 bucks. It comes with a #8. I just bought 3 yesterday.

    This is a very low quality piece. Metals are soft, and the release mechanism gets stuck very frequently.
