That’s why they’re so confused when people get upset with plot holes and the rest of the bad writing. Their attitude is “hey we included a bunch of lesbians so who really cares if we had their stone temple burn down”. They think any boxes they check in terms of diversity are more important than how good the writing is, and they can’t understand when the audience doesn’t feel the same way.

Leslye tries to sound so insightful in this interview, but she seems to just ramble on trying to convince herself that she gave us such great storytelling. When someone talks a mile-a-minute to try to get their point across, it usually means they themselves have major doubts in what they're even defending.
The whole thing about "It's a birthday change" is completely stupid on their part. A birthday change would be, "He was canonically born on January 7th, but now they changed it to October 28th". That's a birthday change; when it's a change of the day someone was born in the same year! This was having someone be alive 40 years before they were even supposed to be born! This is more than just a "birthday change"; this is a "birthyear change"!
Why don't they just say it's a different doublebrained bighead? Was he even named? He doesn't really look like the same guy.

It's not about a birthday at all. The whole point of the prequel trilogy is that the Sith are finally coming out of hiding to orchestrate their ultimate plan of taking over the galaxy by instigating the clone war and playing from both sides to destroy the republic.
The Phantom Menace has the Jedi say

The Sith in the Phantom Menace confirm that they have been in hiding for that entire time when Darth Maul says "at last we will reveal ourselves to the Jedi, at last we will have revenge."

The point in the Phantom Menace is that Anakin is a unique thing in the force that you don't see every day. The Sith are something that you do not see every day anymore.
The acolyte series runs headfirst at 1000 miles an hour into every plot point from the Phantom Menace like it's a fucking brick wall ! That is the problem.
Not only is a vergence in the force not an oddity, it's happened to an entire planet that is supposed to be lifeless after a huge hyperspace disaster.

The problem is the story in the acolyte diminishes the intelligence of the Jedi and makes you ask

When JJ blew up Vulcan in Star Trek 2009, it was a huge controversy up until the point that you realize it's an alternate timeline. No conflicts with the established lore.
If this show came out and said this is an alternate timeline, it would be the same thing.
But the fact is they didn't pay enough attention to the source material in its own internal logic.
They are using the concepts of Star Wars like a vergence in the force, but they are ignoring the fact that the Phantom Menace treats these things as a mystery and an oddity.
It's jarring for somebody who is going to watch the Phantom Menace after they see the Acolyte.
This interview makes me understand what Leslie is trying to do much better and actually appreciate what she's trying to do better.
The Jedi are Haughty assholes without oversight in the high Republic era. OK fine. But the fact that I'm getting this from this interview and not from the content itself is a huge issue.
If Manny's character is supposed to be the good guy who is the rebel, that's great. Don't set this story 80 years before the main story where the roles are completely reversed.
I feel like Leslie is on a set to give her cred, that shelf setup screams, "quick go to the company store so she looks like she knows what she's talking about"

you added a lot of dialogue to what Mundi said in the prequels. all he says is that the sith have been extinct for a millenium. in the little meeting where we see Mundi, nobody there has actually seen the sith character yet. they just speculate that she was trained by a rogue jedi. so far, the continuity is entirely preserved as the only person who knows there is a POSSIBLE sith (and he might not even be, based on his own wording) is Sol. Sol may not survive, and we can't really judge the continuity of this thread until the show is over. He also never knew anything about the creation of the twins specifically.

The line "He was seduced by the dark side of the force" is a line from the Bible. It references the Book of Judges and the Book of Kings and how people in power become seduced by their own wicked hearts because they can do what they want. The cycle continues throughout history of how Good people become bad people mostly by their own selfishness.

@@jahhghYoda isn’t a 10:08 god. He says many times “difficult to see”. Empire being primary case. Planets where this is occurring are all Outer Rim. Distance clearly a factor. Lastly, prime Jedi time with 10s of thousands of them. A few Jedi die in the Outer Rim. Barely a blip in the Force. Rwoh knows something is going on, but she had premonitions and visions too, and she is more directly tied to the characters. Sol is likely her apprentice. Qimir might also be her apprentice.

@@Darth_Jawa077 The difficulty seeing was addressed in the prequels that was due to sidious. At the time of the show sidious wouldn't even be around yet. So it should be massively easier for yoda and the council to sense things being off. It's just bad writing. They could of put in a reason but just didn't bother. They could of made it where Yoda was busy with something else which would be preoccupying him which is better then no reason.

The fact that Leslye Headland fundamentally doesn't understand the issue with Ki Adi Mundi, just highlights why she had no business directing a Star Wars project.
Also, the fact that she's only willing to do "safe" Disney approved media...really underscores the corporate cowardice of the Disney/ Lucasfilm operation.
The girl interviewing her is the prime target demographic for their new Disney Star Wars girl brand.

I actually think them putting KAM in the show highlights how much they understand the lore and canon. It makes it so we can blame him for a lot of the Jedi’s hubris and arrogance without blaming the entire order.
I think the story is fine and strengthens canon. The execution of the show is another thing though.

The way they perceive the world, the way they don't understand anything star wars BUT act like They love star wars and deserve to be who's in the position to create more star wars content.. Is ridiculous.. I don't understand how things have gotten so bad that no one can step in and fire all these inadequate people.. The world needs people to come in and bring in truly passionate and gifted individuals artist's, actors, writers, set designers, sound design, you name it, the world needs this shift.. To be fair, I think this way about Theory's takes sometimes. He keeps saying like the thousand years of peace thing 'no Jedi died' or something like that and...even in the old canon that wasn't true. Not even remotely. The first time the Jedi have encountered any conflict in a thousand years is in Episode 1?
There were countless stories, comics, novels covering all sorts of crises the Jedi encountered and had to contend with. The Stark Hyperspace War, the Yinchorri Uprising...Jedi would always run into possibly fatal situations, it was the nature of what they chose to do, the role they chose to play. What there weren't, for sure, were a bunch of Sith running about out in the open.

Yeah it's sad and I'm experiencing the same thing with a different show rn. Can't just have a show made by and for people who are into the original story/writing. The shows always end up in the hands of people who wear their political agendas and culture on their forehead.

Since the Games are considered Canon now, as stated by Disney, SWTOR draws out the path of a Sith. From Initiate/Hopeful to Acolyte to Apprentice to Adept/Lord to Darth.
Acolyte skips the Initiate phase altogether, meaning they just thought the name sounded cool and didn't even care about the rest. It encapsulates the entire productions feelings towards Star Wars as an IP/Franchise. They only care about what pleases them. Not about the constraints of the Universe/Lore. Which can also be seen in how they handle the 10 day travel time it would take the Jedi to go from Coruscant to Nal Hutta (Nar Shadda) when they go to pick up Osha in the first episode, and they're talking about a murder that happened LAST NIGHT.
Lee Jung Jae gives so much more than any of the other actors and it makes me sad his talent is wasted on this

I was having such a hard time making a star wars dnd campaign... until I threw out all the Canon, changed sisters of dathomir to Mystics of Mandalore, and the story exploded into potential.
Disney needs to finish Lucas' story and jump into the future (or present) i.e. A long time ago in a galaxy far away.

I was 14 years old when a New Hope (then just called Star Wars) came out. I think i saw it 27 times in the theatre and never once did i think when Obi Wan said Vader was seduced by the dark side of the force, that he meant that in a sexual seduction. In fact, im 61 years old now and ive STILL never thought that.

There's no need to worry everyone. None of this story will matter to anyone in the not too distant future. Even though for them it will be motivated by a lack of making money, Disney will soon try to sweep this "story" under the rug as well. It's a failure for us as true fans and it's a failure for Disney as an investment.

Why would I respect Lucas nowadays, the guy has fucked up movies with crap cgi and supported Bob Iger two weeks before he held that press event where he talked about Star Wars and how people don't ''understand the force'' quite a hypocritical guy. Of course I respect his original Star Wars trilogy, he only did it for the money when he sold LucasFilm and yeah, I've never watched a single damn Disney crap woke wars. We have to understand that Lucas is an old man already, but it would be fun to see him go with the same passion as he did when he was young, to gather the old group together and make a movie, and I'm not just talking about Star Wars.
I stopped when they turned Luke Skywalker into Freddy Krueger and had him try to kill his nephew in his sleep because he had a nightmare. I believe Luke Skywalker is more heroic than a scary movie villain but that's just me..
The shelf behind Headland is pure prop. I would put money on it that as soon as Headland is fired or has another project, every bit of Star Wars back there is going in the garbage or back to the person she borrowed it from.

I agree with you 100%. The Acolyte show story and script so weak, which is such a shame, because it could be so much better. I don’t rate Pablo Hildago as head of story group at Star Wars Lucasfilm. I think he share a lot of of the responsibility for the poor output of Disney Star Wars. I think what Favreau & Filoni and Tony Gilroy seem to operate independently and don’t get influenced by story group. Personally I think it’s time that Hildago and Kennedy should go.

The question is "Did the Acolyte took place 87 years before Episode I: The Phantom Menace?" or "Did the Acolyte took place 114 years before the Empire?"

What qualifies her to even be involved with this at all, let alone be a showrunner? What in her past is even close to this level of work that we all know will be scrutinized to every detail? There must have been a long list of others with far more experience who would have been better equiped to tackle this genre.

I couldn't finish it. I've been here for all of Disney's stuff and enjoyed all of it in spite of their glaring shortcomings. Tales of the Empire, however, left me pissed off, and I expected more of the same with the acolyte. Somehow, it was worse than I thought. These last 2 shows have shown me that they truly need to stop making Star Wars now. It only gets worse from here. They are purposely ignoring fans and sending opposite messages of true Star Wars, so why would I want them to make more?

The only people who liked the prequels when they came out were boys 12 and younger. Now, those kids have all grown up into adults and control the RUclips comments on channels like this, making it seem like “everybody” likes the prequels. Today, still 12 years olds and younger like the prequels. So you have a combination of kids who liked the garbage and grew up and continued liking it because nostalgia, and more kids from today who like it (can’t discern quality). It shows that the only people the prequels attracted were kids, while the original trilogy attracted EVERY demographic, because they were amazing. Also, when your feed is extremely bias and you only watch content like this from channels like this, you also get a misconception that everybody loves the prequels, when in reality most people still think they are complete trash. The acolyte is trash and the new trilogy is also garbage, that I’m not arguing. I’m just being realistic and unbiased and telling it how it is haha.

Because this is not just the tweaking of a given sequence of events, like Luke, Han and Leia ALL DYING in the newer, sequel trilogy, when in canon, they had major roles, Leia and Han had TWINS, biological twins! Not a son and then a young woman that "claims" herself as Leia's second (though adopted) child, when she's really a Palpatine (ya know, a bad guy)!! That was sick, twisted and overton window-pushing enough.

It sucks cause they absolutely could've accurately highlighted the flaws of Jedi culture; the oppressing of emotions, the arrogance, the child soldiers, the ban on love, etc. But the Jedi in this show aren't following Jedi culture at all, so it's just individuals being lousy instead of the system they're in.

Another point to add about Anakin, he was believed to be The Chosen One, and he held the belief he was powerful, thus the belief Obi-Wan was holding him back. His hubris added to everything that Theory mentioned about his flaws.
As for Headland's comment about how there was less oversight for the Jedi in this era, it's clearly in the script that that the sub-council is trying to keep this quiet, because the Senate will have to informed. That comment alone shows they have no understanding of their own script. As for the Jedi, they had been around for a thousand generations (20,000 years), and any of their reasoning or rules about recruitment wouldn't have been established in the past 80 years. And as for the fallen Jedi that trained Qimir, it's been established that there were only 20 lost Jedi in their history, with the first 12 having become Dark Jedi, and establishing the Sith.
It would be excusable for the average fan to not know the depth of the lore, but as someone who has the privilege of adding to Lucas' story, they should at least do their research to understand the mythos they are building.

My Bothan spies have also revealed that Season 2 of The Acolyte is a trilogy of full length feature films. Film 1: The Farce Awakens, Film 2: Order 69 The Phantom Climax, Film 3: Return of the Lesbian Witches. This is going to be more must see entertainment.

As someone who works in the creative industry and in Tech...I can easily identify people like Leslye Headland.
She's very adept at selling her ideas and presenting herself as intelligent by wearing the big goofy hipster nerd glasses and talking about obscure references to things people know little about.
But in actuality she's not skilled or talented herself. She's just a "pitchman/woman".
An "ideas" person.
Anyone who has worked in the creative field or studied with creatives in school, knows these types of people.
Their only talent is their ability to talk.

Yeah I don’t see how anyone can defend this. It must be entirely because they like the diversity and “themes”, because even as a self contained story, it’s contradictory and nonsensical. Indarra was killed by a dagger but Osha survived a crash landing from space. Even if you don’t care about the show breaking canon, it breaks its own logic constantly. Mae says she’s gonna turn herself in, and then when a Jedi tries to arrest her, she tries to kill them. Aniseya turns into an evil cloud but then when Sol stabs her she says she was gonna let Osha go with them. They’re searching for a vergence in the force by combing the dirt with metal detectors but they don’t notice the massive fortress carved into a mountain. Not only does this show not function in the Star Wars universe, it doesn’t even function as a self contained story.
