One of my favorite SUPER simple appetizers is a log of goat cheese topped with your favorite (or homemade) marinara sauce baked in a 350 degree oven for 25-30 minutes and served with warmed flat bread. So freaking good.
Dear Chef John, this is to express my gratitude and pay my repsect to your ingenuity: no filler-recipes at all; only pure thoughtfull, and masterfull creations free from any hint of pretentions, and the best part is that they are all the way from your good heart to the gourmet public. A BIG thanks to you!
Hi Chef John, I just made this and let me just say that this was absolutely delicious! I cant believe how simple but tasty it was, sooo making this again 2moro lol, but honestly any of your recipes I have ever made of yours just turns out perfect every time! You're the best!
my mom used to do this..and goat cheese isnt even local here..but its soo good the exact way you did chef..on fresh homemade bread..jus deli..wait for it..chious
Chef John, I think I'm going to go broke.. Because I love all your cooking videos and wanna cook and eat every single one of your recipes!!!!!! ;D.. Thumbs up for you chef John!!!!!
Keep in mind he does these videos for fun and information. He doesn't make food so we can laugh at his jokes.... He makes these videos to help us simple folks how to cook like a pro ( or look like one lol)
Cayenne pepper, lol. Chef John, I would really be interested to know the number of dishes you've shown us over the years that contain this pepper, and the number of dishes that don't have any. This is too funny. I'm really starting to think you might have a cayenne fetish or something, I'm literally in stitches every time I watch you through that spice into about every possible creation you've shown us. It's practically a thing of beauty John, it really is! Hahaha! Thanks John!
This is very similar to a Greek recipe called buyurdi: you add feta, tomato slices, hot peppers, olive oil and oregano into am earthenware container and bake in the oven at 200C for about 45 minutes. Extremely delicious.
My foodwish would be to see a really good traditional Chile Verde recipe! My mom used to make it for us when we were kids and it was always amazing! I can't seem to find a good recipe for it and if anyone can pull it off I know it is you Chef John.
ugh i used to always dream of cooking your recipes, and now that I'm old enough and have my own kitchen/apartment, im vegan. my luck. do a vegan dish chef john!
tomato bumpers! So, why can't I use fresh mozzarella in this recipe? I think I may try that instead since you taught us how to make that, too. And, i will probably use the ciabatta you taught us how to make as well.
I live in the states. I don't really look at that cheese isle because I don't eat a lot of cheese. This recipe looks good, though, and my husband would like it.
It's more a matter of personal taste I think. Personally any time I mix a soft bland (relatively speaking) cheese like moz, goat, etc with tomatoes I add balsamic to the grouping. It's just a match made in heaven. :) Though with recipe in the video I would have added it at the end, a minute or two before eating, so that it heats up slightly and melds with the tomatoes.
cutting things that has an "inside" at an angle, like a tomato a sandwich or a cordon bleu chicken usually makes for better presentation if inside looks something nice an appeticing
He replied my comment like two months ago. It was on whether I had to use grand marinier liquor for the creme caramel/creamy baked custard recipe. He said 'Yes' then I fangirled and passed out.
I think both of you missed the joke here. The guy made a comment about how he missed chef john's snarky remarks and trolling, and then he makes a snarky remark calling the commenter a troll. He didn't actually think the guy was a troll.
im trying this later today, but i dont have anything similar to this video to cook it in. so i hope shaped aluminum foil does he job...and that it doesnt burn he dish because the walls are too thin or something! wish me luck :D
it worked awesomely! and chef john ; youre my muse man! :D im making better food every day because of you! thanks from me, AND my man :) if he wasnt happy before, he really is now ^^
Can't eat tomatoes due to the crazy, but, there was a great song about logs....your up there with my fav chefs so keep doing whatever you wanna do John. You r0xx0r teh b0xx0r as they say on the Internets.
How about a food wish for a classic homemade grilled cheese with tomato soup. The classic lunch time food combo. Yeah it's a simple wish but I'm craving it and want some possibly new ideas.
Check out the recipe: www.allrecipes.com/Recipe/232801/Baked-Goat-Cheese-Caprese-Salad/
Unlike you, I get paid to leave idiotic comments on here. So, technically every reply I do is professional.
I love how simplicity is key to this amazing dish...and will still astound the best of restaurateurs and party guests!!

I always like the videos before I watch them and I'm never disappointed.
I just got some basil planted and I've discovered a new love for goat cheese. I am so excited to make this!
What a great late night snack while watching Food Wishes on RUclips!!
It has a tangy, sweetish taste and it has a lovely, creamy soft texture
my mom used to do this..and goat cheese isnt even local here..but its soo good the exact way you did chef..on fresh homemade bread..jus deli..wait for it..chious

You got what you wanted, a "snarky" reply and this is how you answer?
I was watching a video about video games and heard this song... it's official, this song is now the "Food Wishes" song.
Screw eHarmony!
Quick appetizer Thank you! :)
Also this looks mucho delicioso

this is my favorite lunch at the moment
Marry me John :D LOL Longtime fan here and I have no idea what that guy is taking about. Your videos are like fine wine. Better with age :)
Yummy!
Goat cheese is my favourite because you can eat a lot of it and it won't overwhelm your taste buds! hmm
I don't like tomatos, but this looks so good, that I want to ty it.
Can you recommend an alternative for the tomatos?
Gotta try this some time!
This was awesome!
tomato bumpers! So, why can't I use fresh mozzarella in this recipe? I think I may try that instead since you taught us how to make that, too. And, i will probably use the ciabatta you taught us how to make as well.
That looks great, CJ. Might have to give this a go soon!
This looks delicious!

My food wish is to get invited to have dinner with Chef John…cooked by Chef John.
oh my lord that looks good
Looks delish
Another great video!! Would you be up to making a matzot ball soup recipe?
He almost sang the "enjoy" in the end this time!
Oh Chef John you gotta sing something fore us someday.
You go Chef Jon :). Love your videos and, yes, I have done some of them, just as you said, and they were awesome.
I live in the states. I don't really look at that cheese isle because I don't eat a lot of cheese. This recipe looks good, though, and my husband would like it.
Instead of tomatoes, could I use like, sweet pepper chunks?
Chef John ur so funny love u dude🧚🏿♂️🧚🏿♂️😻
If you put 2 eggs on top you have one of the best bulgarian food of all time - "Сирене по шопски" :D good stuff
Basil-spleff xD Thank-you Chef John!
oh yes, love it. Thanks
Would this go well as a side dish for a beef steak and some green salad?
Basil spleef was worth the price of admission!
No balsamic vinegar with this, Chef John? I often see it on Caprese.
It's more a matter of personal taste I think. Personally any time I mix a soft bland (relatively speaking) cheese like moz, goat, etc with tomatoes I add balsamic to the grouping. It's just a match made in heaven. :)

I love a good basil spliff
I've made this 4 or 5 times in the last 2 weeks as a snack.
Hi chef, I have some aged goat cheese, it's not so gooey and kinda crumbly.
Do you think it would work?
cutting things that has an "inside" at an angle, like a tomato a sandwich or a cordon bleu chicken usually makes for better presentation if inside looks something nice an appeticing

YUMMMMMM! Thanks Chef!
love your videos!!!

mmmm looks so good, i'll have to try this one time :)
Nice one.
that's what I said, I like chef John's videos because I can learn off them, I learn nothing from this
Chef John can I substitute another type of cheese in this recipe? I really hate goat cheese.
where do you live? Most grocery stores have a Cheese island or section with a variety of cheeses.
I love goat cheese.. Yummy
You can substitute any kind of cheese for the goat cheese, right?
now that you made a melted cheese vid..how about a vid for baked cammonbert cheese? Would be really nice.
looks so yummy :)
good... My mom kept me under a rock cheese wise
I need this I'm my life. Right now!
Anything with goat cheese ❤
im trying this later today, but i dont have anything similar to this video to cook it in. so i hope shaped aluminum foil does he job...and that it doesnt burn he dish because the walls are too thin or something! wish me luck :D

Did you really just say 'Basil Spliff?" LOOOOL!!!! I have to wonder what you were like as a teenager.
Can't eat tomatoes due to the crazy, but, there was a great song about logs....your up there with my fav chefs so keep doing whatever you wanna do John. You r0xx0r teh b0xx0r as they say on the Internets.
not a big fan of goat cheese, but this looks like i'll have to give it a try someday.
very timely as I have just bought a log of goat cheese and was wondering what in the heck to do with it.
did you know about the cheese isle prior to asking the initial question?
you've got an awesome melody going on while speaking :D
what would be a good substitute for tomatoes? medically i can't eat them, but i'd love to give this goat cheese and basil thing a try.
bell peppers, onion, summer squash
not entirely sure how it'd taste in this, though. you can always experiment
hum.. bell peppers could be delish.. thanks
Yum...
Is there a substitute for Goat cheese?
awesome and yummy =)
What's your take on chicken and waffles?
Yum!
Lol i love u chef john
How about a food wish for a classic homemade grilled cheese with tomato soup. The classic lunch time food combo. Yeah it's a simple wish but I'm craving it and want some possibly new ideas.
I'd like to request Chimichangas...
Ironically, I saw your About video and figured that I'd request an actual deep fried version.
Keep up the good work chef we love you:-)
Can you make a gyro please ?
when will it do that?
mmmmm tomato and basil. BFF.
