I agree with what you're saying. I think reasoning behind alimony is that the stay at home wife has lost out on years of work experience when they were married. That kinda fucks the chance of a potential career and alimony is meant to compensate for that. But that's not always the case especially nowadays with women having just as much work opportunities as men, therefore making alimony somewhat outdated.
Just got divorced in July. I had just moved from Alaska to Montana about a year ago, had bought a house, ex had decided to just get up and leave because she missed her family, and took the dogs. A few weeks later she had blocked me from all communication and I filed for divorce as soon as I could. In the end, I'm down about 17k, which I got off lucky because she only threatened to go after the house she lived in for 5 days, and paid 0 cents into. But if she really wanted to she could have taken that just as easily. She took MY dog, my retirement, and then I had to pay her off in cash as well, so she could live with her parents again, pay 0 in rent, and get a new car. This no fault 50/50 is bullshit. I worked for everything I have, and she had a job the entire time for the three years we had been married. To everyone reading this, sign the prenup. Edit 30 April, 2023: I thought the whole divorce process was over, but apparently it isn't. Almost there, but I'm now down about 20k. Also I had no idea that most courts just throw out prenups. Knowing that, I really would never want to get married again. It's not worth the risk.

I just recently ended a marriage due to domestic violence towards me and somehow this dude was still able to get a motion for spousal support heard. Luckily we had a sane judge and she just basically let us each keep what we have because the ex was trying to get 50% of what I had even though I got most of that after we legally separated and I had stuff because I wasn't supporting a bum anymore.

I did look up the laws here and found that in special cases it's possible even here, but it isn't definitely anything common or long term and the reason "I can't find a job right now." isn't enough by far for that.

Child support should really depend on income, custody, and child’s needs, but it isn’t in a lot of cases. That’s the broken part. Separations also should depend on contribution (not just income) to the possessions, not just taking 50% of your pre marital investments.
Luckily divorce doesn't exist in the Philippines. If the parent break up, they break up, simple as that, no complicated process. The Alimony part really makes you sympathetic.

I just recently ended a marriage due to domestic violence towards me and somehow this dude was still able to get a motion for spousal support heard. Luckily we had a sane judge and she just basically let us each keep what we have because the ex was trying to get 50% of what I had even though I got most of that after we legally separated and I had stuff because I wasn't supporting a bum anymore.
As someone going through a divorce this hits different. Divorce should be so damn difficult that people would rather work it out than deal with the system and the only expectation is when their is violence.
That's the way it should be. But when one party is almost 100% guaranteed to walk away with a treasure trove of cash and prizes, all that goes out the window.

*Temporary* limited spousal support makes sense to me if one of the spouses is able and has a substantially high income but the other spouse is legitimately disabled.

Child support should really depend on income, custody, and child’s needs, but it isn’t in a lot of cases. That’s the broken part. Separations also should depend on contribution (not just income) to the possessions, not just taking 50% of your pre marital investments.
