The art of procrastination is a special one, it makes you so incredibly lazy that you are able to do an assignment at light speed the minute before its due
I literally procastinated and did not do a single work in my science subject this year in January to April. At April, 2 days before all the grades are done counting, the science teacher came up to me and says she won't put a single grade on me, which is basically zero. As soon as I went home, I finished 76/78 science activities in 6 hours. Hell, normally one of them would take like 20 minutes, yet I did each at like 1/5th of that time, so like 4 minutes. Edit: how the fuck did I type in 76 and 78, I meant 56 and 58. My bad Lmao
For the 57th and 58th? Yeah I ate dinner, and then I procastinated those two and was too lazy to do those two. 💀 But hey I got an 89% on my science : ) compared to what could have been a 0% if I hadn't done jackshit.
The art of Procrastination is not easy. You must master the knowledge of how long you can go without caring about something, and then hone 3 generations worth of skills to get that thing done at the last possible second. It is not something to be laughed at, instead, it should be adored by everyone.
And the combo extender, when you finally stood up out of your procastination cycle and ask a friend or hell even a family member for a help, they cut your sentence off before you could say shit, and the cycle starts again
To me procrastination is the result of being a perfectionist. I want to do things so well from the start that I’m afraid of messing up; so I do things too slowly and I leave them for other days while planning how I think I should do them, etc… it’s hard to explain
It`s also that a perfect fantasy with a semi-okay result through procrastination is worth more than failing even though you started early enough...at least for me.
Just do it, it's impossible to be good at something if you never give yourself a chance to mess things up People that are damn good at something aren't because that try to be perfectionist but rather just did it, fail, learn from that, and repeated until they manage to get good at it
This hits home. I have guitar lessons every week, and I always tell my self to practice at least 5 days out of 7. I end practicing for like 30 minutes and hour before the lessons and then embarrassing myself at the lessons. This is one of the most relatable vids I've seen in a while. I am going through the exact same shit that you mentioned in terms of procrastination, its slowly ruining my life but I feel I can't stop myself. Respect man, respect.
Being a lazy procrastinator and a perfectionist is the worst combo cuz you can't finish work cuz you want your work to be perfect but at the same time you can't start doing anything cuz you're procrastinating and the panic attack you get hits real hard when the deadline is almost near
I hate this comment. It is way to damn relatable. That is literally me and i am procrastinating this moment when I have assignments to do. Starting an assignment is a bitch because you want it to be perfect on the first go. However, you don't know how to start it because you mind wants it to be a perfect as possible. Then you end up procrastinating and you end up pulling dumbass all nighter with no absolute sleep when u attend school. You then tell yourself to never put yourself in that position again to only do it once again next week
Yep.. I always felt like If I could just put less effort in I would be doing so much better. So many small insignificant assignments that everyone else did in a day I couldn’t make myself do at all.
As a person with ADHD, this hits too hard. Though im actually changing in life though. Just a month left for me to travel far away from my home and I'll start something new there. Hopefully. I wish you all succeed in whatever, just keep going forward, goodluck.
The thing with ADHD and procrastination is actually that: If you want to get stuff done, you're going to have to set deadlines for yourself, put whatever needs to be taken care of in front of you, and start working on whatever you need to post-haste. You do have the ability, but your mind lacks the necessary parts for taking care of things when they're vague, not described with enough detail about what needs to be taken care of, and a set stopping point. There's a video called "This is how you treat ADHD with science by Dr Russel Barkley part of 2012 lecture" and it's actually quite informative and will relay what I just wrote above in far better detail than what I just did.
@@halodragonmaster as someone with adhd, setting deadlines dont work, my brain still knows theyre fake lmao, best thing i can do is either build a routine or do things without thinking them, though everyone is different
My procrastination have gotten so bad that the time where you usually start panicking about your work doesn't happen anymore. I litreally just sit there and cry since I don't have enough time.
@@anthonymorgan7140 if your getting paid to write that book and you think your not making progress then maybe you just don't like writing that book. (or writing in general I mean who knows really.)
Here's a few things to keep in mind when thinking about procrastination (take everything with a grain of salt and use your judgment, because I'm not a professional and these are just bits of information I've learned from resources and personal experience) Procrastination is a solution, not a problem. That's why it's universal and why its so common--its inherent. You could spend an hour every day studying for each of your college classes every quarter and get A's--or, you could cram everything in the last 2 weeks and still manage B's. You won't perform as well and a lot of your work might suck, but you buy yourself time for distractions, like gaming or social media binges. And so procrastinating turns out to be a really efficient and often effective strategy for getting things done; you not only manage to get the minimum done by the due date but also buy yourself more time for pleasurable activities. People also speak about procrastination in a narrow lens--either you procrastinate or you do it sooner than later. They want to get rid of it without trying to truly understand it beforehand. Good solutions can only come from a good diagnosis--appreciate the different reasons for why we procrastinate. You can break up procrastination into 3 different 'types'--avoidant procrastination, perfectionistic procrastination, and a sort of cognitive overload procrastination. Avoidant procrastination is due to a fear of an emotion that'll come up when doing a task. Perfectionistic is a scenario in which either you wont do something unless you're sure it'll turn out well or you want to feel 'ready' before starting. And cognitive overload procrastination is a response to tasks that are too vague or unfeasible, so even trying to do them is incredibly difficult. Think about that paper you stay up until the morning to finish--the reason you didn't do it earlier could be due to a variety of reasons, but it's likely to contain elements of each type of procrastination. You're anxious, but to be more specific you're anxious about the stress you're gonna feel once you start working. You want the paper to turn out well and you want to be in a good mood before you start, so you put it off. And the task of 'write the paper' is so hazy and vague your brain has a hard time figuring out how exactly to do that. So the paper gets done at the last minute because of these factors all smushed together. What I found to be helpful is to be more active in the choice that you make in those moments where you need to do something that's gonna be harder than usual. So if I have a thought, "I need to work out this morning", what's going to be my choice? Either I can do it now or start thinking about it for the rest of the day from this point. In that scenario, I'm making it clear that there's a tangible cost to procrastinating, which makes it more preventable. The reason its easy to put things off is because theres usually no tangible cost--"I can always do it later". But although it can give you relief, it can also suck up your energy because its occupying your mental space. So think about both the cost and benefit to procrastinating. Breaking tasks down from step 1 also helps. Instead of the task: "work out for an hour today", I'd start with "go outside", working from there. Recognize the emotions that cause you to procrastinate, too. Anxiety is likely the most common one, but anxiety itself is an umbrella term that doesn't really tell you too much. Think more about the specificity of the anxiety: what's making you anxious, what is the source of the anxiety? So think about procrastination not as a problem, but as a question of efficiency. It's useful fuel, but it also pollutes the air around you if you use it too much. Not associated with them in any way, but if you want to learn more about this stuff I highly recommend HealthyGamer and Dr. K. He has some really good stuff when it comes to modern problems we all face. Good luck to you.
Thank u a lot, I think it will really help me. When I was younger my procrastination wasn't a big deal because the coursework was pretty easy for me. Because of this they allowed me to skip a grade and that year was one of the worst of my life. I needed to do work but I wasn't used to it. It was also annoying to be one of the top students only to end up barely passing that year.
THISSS. I was one of the top too, I ended up having summer school 2 years ago because I just thought that I was so smart could get my work done WHENEVER which led to me getting nothing done lol
I’ve gotten to the point where my procrastination is so good that I still get A’s in everything. Even if I do whole essays or projects the night before. I am worried about this though because I’m guessing if I go to college or university the assignments won’t be able to be finished in a night. I’m going to try and break my habit of procrastination and hopefully this will help me in the future.
I just graduated high school and I plan to do the same. College is gonna prepare me for a career so I must take my time and responsibilities seriously. Not only is time that I'm gonna be using in college but money too, I have to avoid failing any classes to prevent from retaking them and to graduate on time
The thing people don't realize is that procrastination is literally a universal human behavior. It's such an efficient strategy to get things done. If you went through school and you got by through all nighters, cliffnotes, and doing everything last minute, then of course procrastinating is going to become an ingrained behavior. People have procrastination backwards. So procrastination turns out, is not a problem, but a solution. Think about it this way: you could spend 2 hours everyday studying for your classes the entire quarter or semester and get A's--or, you could cram literally everything in the last 2 weeks (like I recently just did) and pass with B's. You expend about 25% of the effort to yield 80% of the reward--what's not to like? (Probably all the shame, self-defeating thoughts, and despair that accompanies it). We need to rethink our perceptions about what exactly procrastination is, and to start with, we need to establish that 1) everyone procrastinates and 2) the reason we procrastinate is that it turns out to be a highly efficient and effective problem solving tactic. Procrastination is a really cheap fuel, but it gets the job done. The problem comes when we use it too much--it starts to pollute the air around us. Check out Dr. K's video on procrastination (the webinar in specific)--you'll wish you'd found it sooner because he gives so much insight into the topic. He goes through different types of procrastination as well. Good luck to you.
One things for sure Distracting yourself out of bad habits would be a good enough start Unless you decide to procrastinate on that too, but that's just me
Yea same, for me I’m slowly trying to get better and my mentality is just “do everything you can as soon as possible” it’s easy to be like ehhh, lemme sit down for a bit and then boom, hours are gone, so I’m trying to program myself to ignore thoughts of resting when I really don’t need to and just do my work as early as I can, so that then, I can waste away the hours, I’ve started making an agenda of things I need to do that day, then things that I can afford to lag on, and things that don’t have any specific time to complete, like reading or studying in general, so that that way whenever I’m being lazy I can just check it and get to work
I agree with all of the statements that you have made, and I honestly consider this video as super relatable. I woke up this morning, thinking about my missing school works then this video popped up. I am one of the top students in my class but because of procrastination, my general grade average started to decrease. I don't wanna sound like I'm saying that procrastinating is okay, but in my case, it happens for a reason. I'm still at the top of my class but people started being concerned about me because I end up having incomplete activities. Don't get me wrong, my school is super considerate and they extend deadlines when students need it but I'm just not happy with what i am doing anymore. I used to be so passionate about studying, that I had zero problems being an athlete and a top student at the same time. It's like a constant mental torture, continuously getting pressured by the people around you, expecting you to achieve this and that. Now I am probably deemed by my classmates, or even teachers as a lazy person because I pass my activities past the deadline. Its honestly so painful that I go to different celebrations with school works on my mind, like damn bro I'm only 15 and I want to enjoy my life. I'd say being an honor student is not worth it anymore, what matters truly is what you will do to mold your future. I can suspect people from school looking at me differently now because of passing activities late, but it isn't an entire basis of how successful I would become. Those people will eventually see what happens.
i can relate, because of all the pressure and guilt, my mind feels like it's been clogged, like i can only use about 30% of it, the rest is taken up by all that damn baggage, i don't really feel it now that it's summer vacation, but i'm scared it'll creep back up when school starts, and the fact that i need to get used to a new school, new people, needing to get out of bed and get shit done asap so i can catch my train, i feel kinda fucked
one thing u could try is setting goals for urself, one problem with procrastination for me is motivation and if u can keep urself motivated u can stay on track more easily
Even worse is that I’m a dedicated procrastinator. I’ll always get the job done, but I’ll wait til last minute and just sacrifice my sleep and well-being to do the best damn job I can on my work.
How ironic that this video came out right when I'm about to start my exam, which is literally having to make/build a game from scratch and it's due in 48hrs, spent three weeks watching Stranger Things and Jordan Peterson's lectures. And now I'm here watching dank meme videos
Nice, I could almost feel the crippling guilt inside you as you start panicking on how you could finish this in 48hrs, and now you're considering just grabbing something off the internet and pass it off as your work.
@finger licking good summer school. But some schools in America have only a 1 month summer break with a bunch of 2 week breaks scattered all over the year to make up for it
I’ve mastered the art of procrastination to the point where I don’t fail classes, maintain my sanity, and chill all at the same time. I have a 3.8 cumulative GPA in college just because I can procrastinate, *efficiently.* I know the feeling of failing so usually if I do intentionally put off doing my work, I will eventually do it before it is due. I know how much time I’ll need for something so I’ll just leave that amount of time before the due date to do it. It’s the master 🅱️lan.
I don't hate procrastination, I hate when it's USELESS procrastination. If I'm trying new games / watching a show / reading, that's good... but when it's social media / staying in bed / replaying an addictive multiplayer game 24/7, it's the WORST.
The art of procrastination: doing minimal as possible, but when you do need to do something, you do maximum effort as minimal as possible… like legit, I had someone interview me, saying I seem very well prepared, even tho it took me only 10 minutes to prepare for a two month awaited interview.
I encourage everyone to go on self improvement you learn to be disciplined and use less social media and stop procrastinating this is why I made my channel
One of the worst side effects of procrastination is how it is so goddamn irritable to sit still even when you are on break/holiday 'cause zero assignments and whatnot. Like you lowkey miss that sheer panic attack whenever the deadline draws close, so bad that you keep on nagging yourself almost everyday to do something productive, ANYTHING at all.
Before the pandemic I was one of the top students cause the work I need to do is actually forced in my face but lockdown just increased my procrastination level to the max that I went from being a top student in the top section to being a mid student in a lower section of my school. I just always thought to myself that once this is over I'll get a comeback but it never came, 2 years later and I still haven't done anything against it idk bout y'all but I'm in a third world country so they haven't fully implemented a face to face and it was announced they will do it next school year which is 2 months from now, basically wasted almost 3 years
I’ve been procrastinating my whole life but I find myself turning into an actual god once crunch hours hit and I got 2 hours to turn in a 5 page essay, it feels like my mind has transcended and everything is clear, ya feel me?
Fuck it man, im just gonna do it. Im gonna start learning how to draw right now, instead of pushing it in front of me like i've been doing for the last 4 years.
As someone who was a professional Procrastinator because of ADHD imma personally tell ya'll how I overcome some of the flaws. These may or may not work with everybody but at least you could try. This might be a long list so read if u like - Routine/schedule: You generally have to get a schedule that you should follow, might be best if you got a friend of family who's responsible in checking you out if you fulfill them schedules or routine. They should remind you from also doing those stuff when they see u slacking. - Waking up early even if u got nothing to do that day: It really to be helping u be productive trust me. - Good support system: I dunno about ya'll but I'm generally someone who likes doing things on my own. Even I admit u need someone supporting u in this type of shit whether it be family or freind. My girl keeps me in check whenever I slack off and reminds me to do the tasks i need to finish in that particular day. - Finishing what you need to finish for the day: Don't care if you didn't do that shit today, what you could finish today, finish it now. You tricking urself by saying you'd do it tomorrow. You'd be saying that for years until u give up on actually trying. - Meds: Some of ya'll probs have ADHD too. It's better if you get yourself checked from a reliable therapist or psychiatrist to get ur proper medication. - Pomorodo: Hard to explain, basically look it up. It basically is a timer that tells u to finish ur shit before doing anything else. - Good amount of exercise: I easily get distracted cause of my ADHD. What i do besides taking meds is that a bit of workout. Don't even need to be a work out maybe even walking the dog for 30 mins. Something that requires something physical so that your body gets all the energy out. - Checklist: Get some checklist going on. It might not be much for some people but it genuinely feels accomplishing a goal you made for urself. This could be something simple as doing ur chores or studying. this helps validate urself that ur making an improvement. Also it helps if u break Apart a task rather than listing it as one big thing. Helps trick ur brain into thinking ur moving. - Reward system: In a day u accomplish a fair amount of task u made for urself, make sure to reward urself by doing something u actually like doing. Playing games, playing with urself, shit that makes you happy. Make sure not to do it too much as to sleep late. - Grit: This might be cliché and really unhelpful for some but it really takes a bit of willpower for it to work. You just need to have the inability to give up. try and try again and see where u went wrong last time and improve on it. Good luck out there mates!
procrastination is a bid to stay in your comfort zone. If you really want to break through you got to push your limits be uncomfortable say "what if". I think this new world is makeing us less human because where manufacturing pleasure insted of going out and doing more pleasurable thing that would benefit us in the long run. Some people want robots to work for us, undermining the fact that its human nature to work its what made us.

I'm 32 years old. What I can tell you, honestly, is procrastinate as much as humanly fucking possible while you are alive on this earth. Procrastination involves things you love doing. According to a simple google search, it was found that the brains of procrastinators have a larger amygdala, which is part of the limbic system known for fight, flight, or freeze. “What's happening is what we call the 'amygdala hijack,'” says Pychyl. “The procrastinators are reacting emotionally, and the emotion-focused coping response is to flee. This means that you literally feel fear when you remember you are procrastinating.

I will actually make an entire batman level strategy on how to pull myself out of the hole I’m in. And i just won’t do it. I technically can do it but I truly believe I can’t. I call it laziness but I want to do it. I want to get off my butt and put in the work and put in the grind and try my best but i just can’t. I don’t know what its called but it sucks. Im in the same exact boat, although Im not sure i have adhd... I haven't escaped the loop yet exactly, but Im planning to go to tutoring and things like that to have some outside help I would've been embarrassed to ask for before. I think you have to forgive yourself and learn that you are deserving of help from others. At least, thats what I had to do, because I realized I really couldn't fight it on my own anymore and things would continue to get worse otherwise.
I recently been diagnosed with ADHD and you pretty much summed up exactly how I felt. I just graduated and been struggling to get a job. I always have this problem even for years during my school year, and my focus is usually at its lowest when I’m not in school. I’m just too lazy to do anything bd I feel like shit. It hard to explain to my parent how can I be tired from not doing anything. I’m seeing a therapist now and still trying to pull through. With some successes and others failed. And I think you can make it through. Idk what works for you, but least the advices is see a therapist if you haven’t already.
@@isaacgray2909 I just started seeing a therapist a couple months ago, and I started working out twice a week with my mom and a trainer at 9 in the morning, which was usually the earliest I'd wake up lol. @FrenchToastRazu) yeah and thats true for me except i only am like that with school work. If i want to do something because i want to do it rather then i need to do it then it normally gets done and done well. If i felt like making a table out of wood then I’m making that table and it will be the best table you have seen. But if i want to do schoolwork because i have to then I maybe do half of it and the half of it that i do, do is half done.
This title hurts. I told myself i'd start doing my work at 12 pm. Its currently 6:42 pm. I told myself "next hour" 6 times now, and productivity be damned there will be a 7th.
Somehow I usually succeed with procrastinating. Yes, It's hella stressfull if you write 9 of your 12 essay pages the night before deadline but somehow it usually turns out somewhat decent. Guess I have to fail real hard in order to get rid of it, because as long as it works out,I'll continue.

Good luck my g. Wishing all the best to you
The thing with ADHD and procrastination is actually that:
If you want to get stuff done, you're going to have to set deadlines for yourself, put whatever needs to be taken care of in front of you, and start working on whatever you need to post-haste.

@@shizukaaaa That is so true
Here's a few things to keep in mind when thinking about procrastination (take everything with a grain of salt and use your judgment, because I'm not a professional and these are just bits of information I've learned from resources and personal experience)
Procrastination is a solution, not a problem.
Good luck to you.
i dont care

FACTS, tell me a fact
@@lplascencia3818 True :(
“I’m not a procrastinator. I’m just extremely productive at unimportant things.” -every procrastinator
Thank you. Finally, some with big brain.
Procrastination, just as painful as Menstruation, but mentally painful.
One things for sure
Distracting yourself out of bad habits would be a good enough start
Unless you decide to procrastinate on that too, but that's just me
I FUCKING LOVE PROCRASTINATING I FUCKING LOVE WASTING MY LIFE BY DOING NOTHING EVEN THOUGHT I KNOW PROCRASTINATION IS SLOWLY RUINING MY LIFE
Yea same, for me I’m slowly trying to get better and my mentality is just “do everything you can as soon as possible” it’s easy to be like ehhh, lemme sit down for a bit and then boom, hours are gone, so I’m trying to program myself to ignore thoughts of resting when I really don’t need to and just do my work as early as I can, so that then, I can waste away the hours, I’ve started making an agenda of things I need to do that day, then things that I can afford to lag on, and things that don’t have any specific time to complete, like reading or studying in general, so that that way whenever I’m being lazy I can just check it and get to work
If you had to go back and thousand years and show this to a slave. They would say this is self-inflicted slavery with a reward.
I know right same
i can relate, because of all the pressure and guilt, my mind feels like it's been clogged, like i can only use about 30% of it, the rest is taken up by all that damn baggage, i don't really feel it now that it's summer vacation, but i'm scared it'll creep back up when school starts, and the fact that i need to get used to a new school, new people, needing to get out of bed and get shit done asap so i can catch my train, i feel kinda fucked
i cry myself to sleep everyday because of procastination
one thing u could try is setting goals for urself, one problem with procrastination for me is motivation and if u can keep urself motivated u can stay on track more easily
I'm so good at procrastinating that when my professors give me 6 months to do a project I end up asking for an extension anyway.

Im doing the math while watching the video and being glad I'm getting it done
Bro you need to help me. I thought college was easy but it's one of the worst years of my life. The only reason I'm not quitting is the money lmao.

As someone who was a professional Procrastinator because of ADHD imma personally tell ya'll how I overcome some of the flaws. These may or may not work with everybody but at least you could try. This might be a long list so read if u like
- Routine/schedule: You generally have to get a schedule that you should follow, might be best if you got a friend of family who's responsible in checking you out if you fulfill them schedules or routine.

I will actually make an entire batman level strategy on how to pull myself out of the hole I’m in. And i just won’t do it. I technically can do it but I truly believe I can’t.
