Not followed rigidly as signs of faith but aids to help us in our worship and stay on track on the way with Christ. It’s hard for me to think my Catholic religion is a graceless cult. If tomorrow I became an Orthobro I would still have a hard time denying the faith of the Catholics as more like a break in communion rather than a heresy.
It isn't bro, be careful of the misinformed people causing further divisions. the separation is from political egos and some theological differences of opinion. Check out ecumenism. We are of the same faith, have faith we will be one unified church again. Follow Jesus and where the Holy Spirit takes you, not that of the opinion of men, even mine, do some of your own research into the history of the church and what Catholic means. God bless.
Forgive me, this may come off as rude especially when compared to the other commenter above me: ecumenism is a heresy for a VERY GOOD REASON! The reason is this: To subscribe to some ecumenist idea like branch theory (or something like it) is to deny the obviously apparent differences between Catholic and Orthodox ecclesiology. Both institutions are EXCLUSIVIST to each other, despite modernizing efforts. As an orthodox Christian, I must say to you, both churches CANNOT be true at the same time due to theology, especially ecclesiology. Please, take your time in earnest prayer, I will pray that you come to understand the truth.
@@r4ngerr4ge32 be careful of your pride, brother. you might want to pray for understanding also. you're right though, there is only one truth but who are you or I to assert we have it? and ecumenism is far from being a heresy, it is simply the aim of creating unity in the church, if your patriarchs can do this you should be able to open your own heart toward it. It is the wish of Jesus Himself that we come together, asserting tribal pride and arrogance only hinders that goal. God bless. edit: I want to say something. on my journey I prayed for a church and Christ showed me the RCC and it was only confirmed to be the right decision for me since then on multiple occasions, but I don't deny the possibility that the Holy Spirit led all you Orthodox Christians to your churches. I trust His judgment and will so we should not attempt influence or manipulate him on his journey but he should pray and trust in God to guide him. I have wondered if the schism was part of His plan for some reason, who are we to guess why? we can only wait and see what comes of it. but I'm tired of seeing the lies, vitriol and hate towards Catholics from blatant misunderstandings, it is not Christ like. I received my salvation through the Catholic Church and I learned to love God through the Catholic Church. I learned in their schools through the third grade. God is Lord of the storm. Part of the reason God allowed the Church to split was to achieve different assignments. Jesus will judge the Church. Most need to make sure they are doing and making all the right actions. I believe the God gives blessings to the Catholic church, the Orthodox Church, the Assyrian Church of the east and the Coptic churches. Jesus wanted his body to be whole and as humans we have found ways to divide ourselves. It will take a great amount of humility on all sides for us to be united as One. It will take the Holy Spirit working through the leity to make this happen. As a potential convert to Orthodoxy or Catholicism I appreciate both. All Glory be to Jesus Christ.
Though it’s not polite to say, the church isn’t divided. It’s one like it always was one (Orthodox). There’s no point in giving someone legitimacy for leaving it. Otherwise, we can call Arius and those who followed him a church too.
I went along to a Catholic mass recently in my home town. On the one hand I was impressed that it was so well attended, with lots of families with children, and generally a good atmosphere. On the negative side, the service was actually not too dissimilar to the Baptist church I used to go to, a structured service, but fairly light, liturgically, not quite informal, but straying fairly close.
I went to my brother's wedding a year or two ago at a Catholic church and it honestly barely looked any different from protestant services I attended growing up. Some of the music was even identical.
It’s a sad reality. That’s why the Latin mass is so SO important. Not like the new order masses… they do resemble more and more like Protestant services each year
1 Corinthians 14:33 King James Version 33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints. 2 Timothy 2:15 King James Version 15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
All we have to do is accept Jesus Christ and profess Him as our saviour. He saves us regardless of chants, icons and all the other stuff. Jesus is a jealous God and doesn't share his glory with other 'saints' living or dead.
I am a convert too Catholicism and attend the Latin Mass. I understand what he’s saying when it comes to the Novus Ordo; but in the Mass (Latin rite) that has been the bedrock of the faith for well over a millennium; no. The pontiff is the seat of Peter and this matters!
@@kimphilby7999 I think it’s best to clarify the significance of the seat of Peter and its biblical origins. Christ established Peter’s position when He commissioned him by his renaming after Peter’s declaration. Examples: The continual singling out of Peter in scripture; with the angel at the tomb, Jesus’s undoing of his three denials and Christ commissioning him, Paul’s referencing his authority, etc… Also, the historical fact of the church going to the leading bishop on authority when the apostle John was still alive. My point, is that there is a strong biblical argument. It’s also congruent with the old covenant and a high priest; ie, Moses. Jesus references the “seat of Moses” as an authority. The pope is the vicar. He himself can personally error but the Holy Spirit protect the position when it comes to faith and morals. Example: What has been made dogmatic has never been undone in the 2000 yr history of the church; no matter who was the pope. Christ IS The Church and this includes the papacy. God bless you.
@@daddydaycareah3994 there is something that i don't understand and i wish for you to explain it better for me: if the Pontif claims to be the descendant of Peter through apostolic succession, how can he do that if Peter was Bishop of Antioch, and not of Rome?

To me, he's highlighting the superiority of Catholicism. It is truly a catholic (universal) church. Eastern orthodoxy has only one regional expression but it does not have catholicity.
It shall help you to understand Scripture if you mark not only what is spoken, or written, but ask yourself of whom, to whom, with what words, what time, where, to what intent, with what circumstances, considering what goes before and what follows after.”
Yes, in one Catholic Church the air is is thick with incense, leaving me gasping as I walk in. In another it’s guitars and banjos. At least different churches are not shooting at each other.
Raised a catholic but left as a teen. Never understood why catholism was so bad until studying scripture and understanding confessing to a priest who has no authority to forgive sins, meant all those sins can ONLY be forgiven by Yeshua/Jesus.
There is no iconography in the scriptures No iconography or partiular kind of singing in the teachings of Jesus Christ or Paul. JESUS warned against teaching which adds or make the traditions of men equivalent to scripture.
Mar mari stated that the Orthodox Church is like the straight path to god and that Catholicism is like a mother keeping her children under her roof. He said both ways are leading to god
As a Catholic I very much understand and respect this opinion, still while I highly value iconography and chants, I like that Catholicism offers other forms of practicing Christianity while not throwing tradition out of the window like Protestant tend to do.
I completely agree. You never know what you’re going to get walking into a typical Latin parish especially. It may be everything from the Tridentine Mass to a ‘high’ Novus Ordo with Gregorian chant and Latin, to a folk guitar Mass, Life Teen with a ‘praise band’, clown Mass, etc. It’s really become not much different than Anglicanism in this sense, an eclectic mix of rites that pleases everyone, while all claiming that it’s a ‘unified’ church under the pope.
@EasternChristian333 is Truth and Catholicity determined solely by a plurality of liturgical rites or adherence to the Faith? Catholicity has nothing to do with which church has larger numbers or more ethnic diversity or rites. According to St Vincent, it’s holding fast to the faith that which has been believed everywhere, always and by all”. So yes, the Orthodox are indeed Catholic.
@EasternChristian333 what you said is not accurate or representative of the Orthodox Church. Papal Supremacy, the most dividing issue separating the two communions, came about as a development in the Roman Church (among other dogmas) mainly in the 11-12th centuries as a result of the Gregorian Reform. Pope Gregory VII and his successors radically transformed the Papacy in the West. The Pope had his own army and could depose kings and excommunicate entire kingdoms. Yet, the Latins claim that the Orthodox Church has an issue with Caesaropapism?! The Roman Church has changed so many teachings and practices it would take me forever to list them all. The Orthodox Church has been more faithful to apostolic tradition. Our Church doesn’t “bless” sodomy like your church. Why if I may ask are you even commenting on this Orthodox channel? Are you a troll?
The catholic church has many avenues to know, reach, relate, worship Jesus, we all have unique degrees of holiness as God's people. The options or variety give God's people options or choice in how they desire to honour God Almighty.
The Orthodox Church is wounded. They only have 220k members. Catholicism has 1.3 billion followers. Rome was the epicenter in handling all the heretical issues that came out of the east. We have a parish in every community of the world. We are responsible for building the Western world in terms of education hospitals and universities. We are the champion of life's and we are the greatest giver of charity.
I'm Roman Catholic and married to an Orthodox. We pray every day, use candles, we clean our house with incense, use holy oil for food...I understand about the difference❤
What the Vatican has never understood is that if you take something and continually change it - which the RCC routinely does - then what you end up with is not what you started out with. So they can state all they want that they are "the church that Jesus founded" when Jesus would not recognize - let alone approve - of what the RCC now is.
The weakness is the claim that it's true. Because when asked to demonstrate the truth claims, we are told to have faith. Faith is not a reliable pathway to truth.
They’re not preferences. They’re all THE Christianity. There’s just a hierarchy. Though my heart is central to me being alive, my whole body is what what makes me

Asking Mary or saints in heaven to pray for us is just the, asking god to help us , e don’t pray to saints to do Jesus job ,w e pray saints to pray for us
When Jesus/God demands you pray directly to Him? He will hear you. Didn't Jesus withdraw His kinship to Mary from the cross when He said, ""Woman, here is your son". Jesus then said to the disciple, "Here is your mother," No one can intercede between you and Jesus Christ.
@@anthonybizzell3857 true , but I think that since the saints are in heaven with god asking them to pray for us is not them interceding our prayers to god , it’s just like if I ask someone to pray for me , we ofc pray to god , we just ask for the saints , so the ones who were very close and who are every close to god to also pray for us
Matthew 6:7 King James Version 7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Matthew 4 4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. That's right..
Wow that was so well expressed.
It would seem to the outsider, that Orthodox adheres excessively to outward symbols and rituals of expressions of faith that are expected to be followed rigidly, as signs of faith. Wouldn’t that just be a new set of Mosaic Laws?
Not followed rigidly as signs of faith but aids to help us in our worship and stay on track on the way with Christ. I've been Orthodox for about three years, previously Baptist, and I feel that I've been given a big open space to move around in, even though there are clear boundaries - but boundaries are good and necessary. Going back to the evangelical protestant world would feel like climbing back into a box - even though I have the utmost respect for my many friends still in that tradition and also gratitude for the way that tradition nurtured me through the years leading up to my conversion to Orthodoxy.
Great explanation
I love the songs being sung in the church which makes followers mind directed towards god through songs is wonderful….. song is such that directs to where and who it is directed and is best way to hear and feel god….. ❤
That’s a fair set of observations. But Catholicism is exceptionally ethnically and culturally diverse.
Let everyone believe and follow what they think is right ❤

Mais, qu’as-tu dans ta tête ! J’aime mieux ne pas savoir, pour sûr des insanités ! Tes propres créations pas très catholiques… évidemment!
The reason is this:
To subscribe to some ecumenist idea like branch theory (or something like it) is to deny the obviously apparent differences between Catholic and Orthodox ecclesiology.
I see so much pride from Orthodox people on comments on YT and it's a shame.
I’m new and I’m trying find out what way to go. All I know is I believe in god Jesus and the Holy Spirit. I love learning the rosary and I don’t yet properly understand the different Christian faiths or quite where I belong yet. If anyone can offer any advice I will be so grateful 🙏
It’s not. Not all, but a lot of the differences between that exist between Catholicism and Orthodoxy, already existed centuries before the Great Schism between the West and the Est.
Catholic and Orthodox churches are still around, must be a purpose. Pray, love and wish the body to be well.
This is absolutely amazing and illuminating!
My favorite was watching ALL OF the previous GENTLEMEN, I wish I knew who he was! *On the truly importance of MARRIAGE AND WHAT IS SYMBOLIZES TO YOUR CHILD, OUR YOUTH, THE WORLD, BUT MOST IMPACTFUL WITHIN OURSELVES! From my marriage I have felt the way God Loves Us! This is how I have succeeded in life in every aspect of my soul and mind and heart!
But without that I would truly feel hopeless and alone, unwanted and unloved! MOST IMPORTANT UNWORTHY! MY MARRIAGE AS HE SAID VERY MUCH SYMBOLIZES THE DEVOTION GOD HAS FOR HIS CHILDREN, ALL HIS CHILDREN EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM!
I love God so very much, I miss Him.
One thing to love abour orthodoxy is its uniformity, the same liturgy you attened would be almost the exact same liturgy as 500 years ago
What about ' Do not have graven image?" Orthodox has icons everywhere on the walls. All that ceremony and drama reminds me of Catholic Church.
He just says that before Chalcedon the only true Church is the Byzanite Church.
I grew up Baptist and the mass is not the same as a Baptist Sunday service
I went to my brother's wedding a year or two ago at a Catholic church and it honestly barely looked any different from protestant services I attended growing up. Some of the music was even identical.
It’s a sad reality. That’s why the Latin mass is so SO important. Not like the new order masses… they do resemble more and more like Protestant services each year
I’m Roman Catholic and have icons on my wall. I love both iconography and statues 🥰.
Definitely a strength in the Catholic faith.
Yes i love it. There is so much available for spiritual growth
I start to love the ortodox way more and more...
1 Corinthians 14:33
King James Version
33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
2 Timothy 2:15
King James Version
15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
All we have to do is accept Jesus Christ and profess Him as our saviour. He saves us regardless of chants, icons and all the other stuff. Jesus is a jealous God and doesn't share his glory with other 'saints' living or dead.
Iconography is great. The levels of worship in the iconography can be the breaking point.
Not according to scripture.
I am a convert too Catholicism and attend the Latin Mass. I understand what he’s saying when it comes to the Novus Ordo; but in the Mass (Latin rite) that has been the bedrock of the faith for well over a millennium; no. The pontiff is the seat of Peter and this matters!
So,you are giving Peter's seat, more credit than the church?
@@kimphilby7999 I think it’s best to clarify the significance of the seat of Peter and its biblical origins. Christ established Peter’s position when He commissioned him by his renaming after Peter’s declaration. Examples:
The continual singling out of Peter in scripture; with the angel at the tomb, Jesus’s undoing of his three denials and Christ commissioning him, Paul’s referencing his authority, etc…
Also, the historical fact of the church going to the leading bishop on authority when the apostle John was still alive.
Example:
What has been made dogmatic has never been undone in the 2000 yr history of the church; no matter who was the pope.
@@player1playforfun that’s a great question and I’ll do my best to answer. The successor of Peter has to do with the position of Peter, not of where, but of whom. Jesus didn’t establish Peter as a bishop of a place but of his church

Loving the Orthodox Church is not enough. One of the pockets that is always present and consistent is the Petrine ministry to be a point if unity....be Orthox but embrace that pocket....
To me, he's highlighting the superiority of Catholicism. It is truly a catholic (universal) church. Eastern orthodoxy has only one regional expression but it does not have catholicity.
Still waiting for an Orthobro to show me a pocket of iconography in the New Testament

Not true.
One Church One Faith
Depends on the time period. Unlike the Latin West, the Greek East had multiple iconoclastic movements to contend with
Raised a catholic but left as a teen. Never understood why catholism was so bad until studying scripture and understanding confessing to a priest who has no authority to forgive sins, meant all those sins can ONLY be forgiven by Yeshua/Jesus.
There is no iconography in the scriptures
No iconography or partiular kind of singing in the teachings of Jesus Christ or Paul.
Not all Protestant denominations reject tradition
I found the fullness of my Christian faith...
The central part of catholicism is the Eucharist , the most important!( which we have and is available everyday)not the music or the chant.
The NO is sacrilegious to the Eucharist, turn back to tradition TLM or the Byzantine Rite.
That's why you all stopped giving it to all the members?
The catholic church has many avenues to know, reach, relate, worship Jesus, we all have unique degrees of holiness as God's people. The options or variety give God's people options or choice in how they desire to honour God Almighty.
Amen!
The Catholic church is not just Roman. There are 23 different churchs such as Maronites who have their own Patriarch .
The problem with religion is the belief in non-existent deities and a non-existent “afterlife”.
No Orthodox church anywhere close to me. I'm in Quebec, which was historically mostly Catholic. How and where can I learn more about Orthodoxy?
The Orthodox Church is wounded. They only have 220k members. Catholicism has 1.3 billion followers. Rome was the epicenter in handling all the heretical issues that came out of the east. We have a parish in every community of the world. We are responsible for building the Western world in terms of education hospitals and universities. We are the champion of life's and we are the greatest giver of charity.
@EasternChristian333 My bad, 220 million
Orthodox is beautiful but narrow to cultural constraints..Catholic is “universal “.
An “Orthodox “ view indeed 🙏🙏🙏🕍
The weakness is the claim that it's true. Because when asked to demonstrate the truth claims, we are told to have faith. Faith is not a reliable pathway to truth.
Or words that most people don’t understand! Go Catholics
Amen
Please don’t confuse the current Catholic Church (in crisis) with the true Catholic Church of the ages.

In Catholicism for example we pray to Mary to pray for us, Mary can’t remove our sin but if u think about it Mary is the mother of Jesus , so clearly Mary and god have a special relationship since Mary is the mother of Jesus , so god ..
Jesus then said to the disciple, "Here is your mother,"
No one can intercede between you and Jesus Christ.
@@anthonybizzell3857 true , but I think that since the saints are in heaven with god asking them to pray for us is not them interceding our prayers to god , it’s just like if I ask someone to pray for me , we ofc pray to god , we just ask for the saints , so the ones who were very close and who are every close to god to also pray for us
What's wrong is they do things and rituals that are completely no where in the Bible and are simply man made just like a corporation!
One other difference is that some orthodox churches allow marriage and divorce up to 3x. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Please! 😊

True understanding and knowledge of God is found in the HolyBible. READING IT
Not in icons or chanting
The HolyBible, the Word of God is what is required.
Nothing to do with the words orthodox catholic Baptist Anglican or any of these words
The Word of God the HolyBible is what should be talked about. It’s what should be repeated. It’s where the focus needs to be. There are actually no instructions from God in any of His Word to draw pictures. NONE
But there is an instruction given by God in both the Old and New Testaments on what He wants from you:
Deuteronomy 8
3 And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live.
Matthew 4
4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
The thing that is required of you from God is to read all of His Word and live by all of His Word.
That’s what God wants. Those are HIS INSTRUCTIONS
And Orthodox have much better beards
