    If you not learning or even screwing up something, big or small, on a shoot then you are not progressing. Great video.

    Image itself actually looks like incredibly similar to the FX3, from skin tones to highlights roll off, dynamic range, it’s quite impressive for such a massive price tag difference. There’s no way you can tell through the final image which is the Venice. Which is a good thing for indie filmmakers.
    Biggest differences are actually the connectivity, resolution and X-OCN.

    Your comment on the Venice already “feeling” like your cameras you already own - I feel that. I helped shoot a short a while back and originally I wanted to use both my personally owned FX30s, but others wanted to try the RED Komodo so we rented 2 Komodo’s and a few lenses (because all my personal owned are Sony E-mount) and…I was not exactly “impressed”. Yea it was super cool to shoot all these codecs internal to the camera, have R3D RAW, 6k ProRes 4444, yea it was all awesome. But when I started editing and coloring I told myself to pretend “this isn’t a Red, this is your FX30s” and I felt the EXACT same way you did. I wasn’t totally impressed, especially since we spent money renting these cameras to get what I felt were the same image. 6k to crop in in post was cool, but we always framed our shots on location the way we wanted anyway so there was very little cropping in we were doing and it’s getting delivered in 4K anyway. But wait, taking 6k to 4k makes it look sharper! Well yes, but my fx30 is a 6k sensor already downscaling to 4K - my final output resolution anyway. ProRes 4444 is nice, but with my Ninja v’s I can just shoot raw and transcode to 4444…or just use the RAW (which I convert to CDNG anyway and my PC can playback all of it with no proxies or cutting down the teapot hom with so many color nodes with zero issues) oh but my FX30s are crop sensors and crops even more in 4.7k ProRes RAW…yea but when I got my foot in the door with cinematography I started on a Sony a6400 so I’m already used to shooting APSC/Super35 so I always knew my lense choice for the right shot without even thinking and where to place myself or any other camera for the shot i wanted. I believe the Venice (correct me if I’m wrong) has a color space called S.gamaut3.super? Or something like that? And if you’re saying you see no difference in your image between a Venice and your FX6? Than does going outside of slog3/s.gamaut3 make that much of a difference? I guess not. I didn’t feel that with the Komodo. I didn’t feel much of a change in “color science” considering I’m doing so much coloring in post anyway so it all gets manipulated no matter what so color science straight out of camera NEVER means anything to me. And because the FX30s were so cheap, buying 2 of them was a no brainer. I mean I’m not making Hollywood feature films here but I work on shorts a lot, some documentary stuff, I’m self shooting a documentary right now on my combat PTSD and I’m just so F’ing impressed with the FX30. People say cameras like the FX6, FX3, FX30s are not cinema cameras. Well, tell that to Garett Edwards who just shot an entire featured film on the FX3. There was some mishap on IMDB saying an Alexa was used but some gaffers on set claimed that’s false. Never was an Alexa ever on set and only FX3s and we all saw the trailer for that film and I think if you said “that’s shot on an Arri 35” I’d believe you. A year ago I would have said it’s a lie it’s shot on an FX3 but now I know it’s not. I think cameras designed for cinema have come such a long way to where it’s starting to make less and less sense for these larger cameras that yes, can do alot of the stuff we want internal, but with external recording not costing that much more to have access to better codecs and RAW, is there a reason anymore? I think since the FX3, FX30, the new Panosonic releases in the last 8 or so months - the gear we use for cinema is about to change forever and I think camera companies will continue to peruse the idea of WAY more affordable cameras that meet the standard their flagship cameras do with some missing bits that aren’t too important. We all know showing up to any shoot with a camera tbays gigantic makes the client feel you’re a professional…but you are a professional. I’ve had clients say “wow that’s it! That’s the whole camera!?” And I explain “yea, the camera world is changing. They’re getting smaller and smaller now”

    Waiting for that FX6 comparison. Overall Image should not be a massive difference. Would be great to see a comparison with natural conditions and a setup with lights controlled. And a model of course cause of how skintones are handled. I used my FX6 for some testing too...make sure you don't clip any highlights and you will get quite a nice & cinematic result out of this cam. Venice pulls out about 2 stops more of DR - around 14,7 . FX6 is about 12,6. So it shoud be easier to use the venice in uncontrolled setups like the arri cams where you don't have to worry about that any light is clipping too fast.

      Tbf both are S log3 just one has a higher bit depth; I didn’t expect a TOTALLY different image, but it is nice to know the current consumer cameras aren’t so ridiculously far off

      @@KofiYeboah would be nice to see some fx6 raw output comparison too with more bit depth. Maybe then, the comparison is more fair. I've never tested the raw output of FX6 but heard that this is no true 12bit - it's mor like 11bit in terms of recording compression etc. Looking forward to this

    Great job Kofi, I learned a lot. 5 pin XLR😳? I'm glad you gave a little comparison to your 6, which I was wondering about. What are your thought on Sony's newer glass? I put my Sony 28x135 up agains my high end Zeiss primes for a sharpness test and the Sony was right there. I couldn't believe it, but Sony has come a long way with their glass. It's hard for me to justify using my primes now on my FX9 outside of a super low light setup🤷‍♂

      What he said 👏🏾

    • @BradleyLayton7
      @BradleyLayton7 Год назад +1

      Cinema cameras typically only show the shutter setting in degrees. So on my fx6 I just set it to 180 degrees and it automatically adjusts the shutter speed to double the frame rate with whatever frame rate I choose. Speeds up the filming process because its one less setting I have to remember to adjust manually. At 24fps it sets its shutter to 1/48 or when I'm in 120fps it'll automatically be at 1/240. I only ever see 180° on the monitor though

    • @sehkhyro
      @sehkhyro Год назад +1

      @@BradleyLayton7 OH that makes so much more sense so it's an indicator of what the camera is auto setting shutter rather than an actual numerical display of what the shutter is - that makes wayyyy more sense lol; cause I kept seeing the "180" on Venice cameras when people were for sure shooting 24 and I was like is this a thing? but okay dope thanks for clearing that up!
