This guy 11 days earlier: "No, AMD SUCKS."
Personally I'd define 'sucks' as being worse than all competitors, but how can that be true if the only real competitor just dies randomly after a few thousand hours of usage.

We could give him the benefit of the doubt if he wasn't making an actual observation
If he unironically said that, yeah
Also I have always benefited from the higher core count in my own workloads and AMD always tended towards that

AMD did sucked before and Intel was indeed better but the roles have shifted now.
And I most say that even when AMD CPU's were worse in the bulldozer days, I don't recall what's happing with Intel now ever happening with AMD. But in those days, CPU's weren't as complex and pushed to the limit as they are now.

For the anecdotal evidence : During my entire life I never had a CPU die. I have 10+ years old computers that I haven't sent for recycling yet and they still work.
Intel CPUs, either intentionally or accidentally, were made so that it's sure they will break.

You're lucky, sometimes it happened anyways, personally I had an ASUS motherboard killing a 2500k .
Nowadays with competition, each competitor fighting for better performance, the high end CPU are on the limits of the technology. That the exact case that leads to reliability issues.

Even the 65w Intel CPUs have been failing like the i9s its been in the tech news all week, Even on server boards running strict intel specs they are still failing and the suspect is oxidization and migration of the interconnecting layers, some devs are even putting warning about 13/14 gen in games about failures, even the mobile chips are doing it, but suspected different faults one dev had 100% failure rates.

    • @familhagaudir8561

If Intel tries to tell you it's just a voltage adjustment issue : it's not. The CPUs are degrading as if micro-corrosion was eating them from inside.

because even if it is 65w cpu the single core still can boost to very high frequencies at high voltages... that is why @necronix9947 If u run at voltages at say 1.35-1.4v u will not experience this issues as it is locked to this voltage value.

tips for people having 13th gen and 14th gen intel cpu :
-I3 I5 are less prone to failing but still don't risk it
-undervolt it and don't overuse it until the BIOS update comes
-when you'll have the BIOS updated and the microcode fixed things should begood in theory but if I owned a problematic i9 or I7 I'ld still wait a day or two to see if things actually got better
-if it is actually damaged the bios update won't fix it but it will stop the erosion (because as that point it's erosion) people sually say that overvolting it will make it more stable but it may damage it further we don't know for *now*

    • @shane011471

The microcode update is NOT a fix, it is another mitigation to delay the process of the CPU dying. If it is stable now, undervolting may help, if it isn't stable, overvolting may aid it in running as it should, but will kill it sooner.

@@johnt.848 We don't really know correct. If your CPU has already degraded the damage is done and the microcode will not fix it. The ONLY people that know are Intel. I do not even know if ALL chips are affected. Been running an 13900K since July 2023 and have NOT had any issue as of "YET." I am also running my G-Skill DDR5 at 6800. All I did a while back was set P1 and P2 at 253 and that was it at the time. Until recently even my Damn BIOS was 10 revisions behind LOL! If I were you, I would cut my losses by sell mobo, RMA CPU, and hope for refund, then switch to AMD, at least for the next five years. Even AM4 platforms are cheaper and better than most Intel options, which require a new motherboard every couple of generations, forcing you to spend more than necessary.
