  • While creating jewelry, are you facing challenges called knots and threads?
    In this bead necklace tutorial we will show you how to make a simple knot ending and how to tie a knot.
    Straight stringing is the basis of jewelry-making and is super duper simple when you like to wear it claspless and pulled right over your head. I did mine with wood beads and Tahitian pearls :)
    Would you like to learn more about how to make an over-the-head necklace? The technique is so simple and NO TOOLS are required-here are the steps:
    1) String beads onto a nylon cord in the pattern that you like to a minimum of 24 inches.
    2) Make sure it fits over your head.
    3) Tie a knot.
    4) Feel successful and wear a BIG smile!
    (We did a Zoom Class for this simple over-the-head necklace and the quality of the video got lessened by the time it got here. So we reshot the KNOT-TYING portion for you!)
    If you want to see the design tips and layout, it's on the Zoom Class Replay here:

    Great video! What size cord would I use for 8mm beads. I went onto your site and couldn’t find the chart. Thanks!

    • @thebeadgallery
      @thebeadgallery  2 года назад

      Aloha!! Unfortunately, it isn't the size of the bead, but the size of the hole we have to measure! If you have a piece of wire that you can poke into the bead, it will give you an approximate comparison size of what cord will fit. Each cord has the wire size that will fit, so here's the size 4 (a very popular size) to look at: thebeadgallery.com/products/cardednylonbeadcord-4?_pos=5&_sid=5e880566f&_ss=r

    I've never used nylon beading cord before - I see it comes in different sizes - which should I use for a long wooden bead necklace?

    • @thebeadgallery
      @thebeadgallery  3 года назад +1

      Hi Nancy! Use the thickest cord that fits ALL the beads in the project, to ensure that it will last. Many wooden beads tend to have larger holes, so you can use a size 8 or 10 nylon, depending if that will fit the other beads in your project. We have a chart on our website of all the cord sizes and what beads they fit - thebeadgallery.com and let us know if you need assistance! aloha! jamie

    I have real pearl beads and l’ll be using white silk cord to restring it. Can you burn silk? If so, will it leave a black mark?

    • @thebeadgallery
      @thebeadgallery  3 месяца назад

      aloha!! You can't burn silk to end it (flame doesn't seal natural fibers, it will just burn it!) so perhaps switch to nylon, or if you stick with silk use a glue like hypo tube cement!! We have some on the website!! :) aloha! jamie

    I was using bead stringing wire because my necklace has large, chunky stones and I didn't want to take a chance that the string would break. The problem with that is that there is not much flexibility and I end up having to leave space between the clasp and the beads on each end just to allow the necklace to fold. Do you have any suggestions on what I can do to avoid this problem?

    • @thebeadgallery
      @thebeadgallery  3 года назад

      Hi - that is a difficult challenge with large beads that don't allow the stringing material to curve.. You can try a beading cable like Soft Flex in one of their thicker sizes or a thicker nylon cord like our Super Mac and KNOT in between. The knots so help in protecting the space between the beads and allowing that "hinge" to happen. I hope your project goes well!!! Aloha! jamie
