    When I was 21/22 I did Bruce Lee's training for 3 months (the summer). I followed the program of "Bruce Lee Jeet Kune Do" book, and it consisted of 6 hours of training, 2 hours morning, noon, and evening. I had weight training session, stamina and core training session, and martial arts training session. I remember I used to do 1650 punches on MWF and 1000 kicks on T TH S. I focused on speed and strength. I did not grow in muscle size, but my strength increased a lot and my punching speed was insane. My kicks got faster but nothing impressive. Of course, summer ended and all that free time was gone and I had to drop this spartan regimen of workout. I think it's a good workout to do for a season in a year (if one is preparing for a fight) but not at all healthy for long term.

    The work out that you described beginning at 16:23 in this Video, is basically what the U.S. Navy S.E.A.L.s were doing when I was at SBU-24 in the U.S. Navy. It will build Power. However the S.E.A.L.s that I knew emphasized muscular endurance over bulk. Basically, Muscular endurance and speed were more important than how much weight you could lift.

      @acts9835 Год назад +1

      @@benglasby8014 yeah but if you focus on bulking, it will make you slower and kill your endurance. Especially if you do isometric workouts.

    • @thelabby9998
      @thelabby9998 Год назад

      Check “Supertrainning” from Vershonshansky. Aside isometrics, like pointed in the vid, there’s a concept in muscular power development related to the angle of how grow muscular tissue. That angle is influenced by load (weight) BUT speed (power) of the movement. Targetting different goals (bulking, power, speed…) require accurate control of speed for each repetition for the “proposed” load and that measurement is performed by lineal encoders (or nowadays accelerometers inside an smartwatch) so if you can’t perform the proposed exercices at its defined parameters… trainer send you home to avoid your muscles get another adaptation instead the one you are targetting. This has lots of implications to just explain them in this short(?) comment but this + isometrics > is the key for powerxpound trainning and one of the selling points for whole body vibration devices or inestability trainning (with bosu-like gear) and also isokinetic pulleys like yo-yo machines and versapulleys (eccentric workout improves that muscle angle growing KEEPing flexibility) that remeble to a certain degree that Dragon isometric machine showed in the video…
      Hope this helps someone (I will copy it into general comment)
      Peace.

    As usual, Beardy's Videos leave a lot to be desired. You on the other hand do solid research and present information in a manner that can be clearly understood. As far as Internal Martial Arts training goes I don't know of any Chi Gong or Tai Qi work outs that last longer then 45 minutes sans physical conditioning. In fact most of the Instructors I know of advise only doing 15 to 30 Minutes of Tai Qi, Chi Gong, Hsing Yi or other Internal Martial Arts, 2 to 3 times a day and any more than that is unnecessary with the exception of sitting Meditation and even then Meditating for more than an hour is rare unless you are a Monk or Priest or are doing Chanting or external Qi Healing and even then doing any of those for more than 30 minutes at a time is for Advanced Practioners.

      Tai Chi Kung means Harmonisation of Cultivated Energy being Cultivated Energy the Chi Kung part of that. Without Chi Kung (Cultivated “Energy”) isn’t possible any kind of Harmonisation. Can someone do larger Chi kung trainnings? Of course but if these are done right that person will “accumulate” enough ammount of Chi to feel unnecessary keep accumulating. I will not say “there’s a finite amount to accumulate” but as you pointed if you aren’t into specific Chi use and you reached your own “health” with less time… why continue?
      OTOH that Cultivation requires other things aside Chi Kung “gymnastics” such a sexual energy trainning (or almost knowledge and coherence) that usual people not very commited to themselves can keep like monks and traninng more time will not solve that (meditation will be more effective) but even so… there are certain stages of Chi level and when you arrive to “certain” level it becomes a connection with the Universal source where you manage to work with that source and Harmonise (Tai) not only your own Chi but the Chi around you or in words of Sifu Lee “Then it got beaten by itself” because Chi as “energy” can generate (new) life, re-generate (a)live or preserve life balancing the Tao… “when my opponent expands I contract, when he contracts I expand and where there’s a gap…”
      Do you remember that dialogue with the monk at (directors not cut version of) Enter the Dragon?
      Tao is nature, Chi is the body of Universal Conciousness and Life in coherence with those is Joy of Infinity Love.
      I&I
      Peace 🙏🏻

    Like his martial arts, Bruce Lee's cross training regime evolved to meet the needs of what he required, his ripped definition was the result of very precise and calculated working. It is described in the four books an overview of the resistance exercises which are creating strength in core stabilisers and focused on pulling power, grip strength and a hard, lean physique. One of his hollywood friends, i forget which one, said he was like steel all over so developed a density without bulk which is more easily achieved by hovering in the hypertrophic. He was also obsessed with having incredible forearm and tricep strength more than stupidly bulky undefined biceps inhibiting fast arm movement...

So assuming it's 8 hrs a day 5x a week I got 2 trainings in the week and 1 in the weekend. On a weekday training my whole day is full (work, little rest, eat, go train, go to bed). One day in the week almost always I gotta run some errenads. So that leaves 2 week days after work with a little free time and 1 whole free day (Sunday), Saturday MA training.

    I used to train anywhere from 4 to 8 hrs a day... But not all in one block. When I first started out, I was able to take the Day and Night classes, at my Wing Chun School. Each class was 2hrs long. The first hour, was a full hardcore "Core" workout routine, with some stretching mixed in there. 3 sets of +60 Crunches, 3 sets of Pushups, 3 min or so Leg Spins + Lifts (each set mentioned, typically had different types per set.. such as 3 different types of pushups). Then the remaining class was a combination of instruction, partner drills, and a few more special attribute creating "Exercises" (like Squats, speed drills, leg hold-outs, and more). After the class, I would bike back home.. and then bike back to the next class, several hours later. I was getting about 2hrs of Biking, along with 4hrs of Martial Arts + Workout. That was 4 days per week... but that was just the START of things:
    In addition to training IN school... I would get home, and start Practicing what I had learned OUTSIDE of School. I repeated the entire 1hr workout at home, every single day that I was not doing it twice at school... and I was doing it every day that I wasnt at school. I would start throwing a series of punches, kicks, and or hand-techs... about every 15 minutes, all throughout the day and night... no matter where I was, Including when I was working. As such... I would, for example... go to the back room at work, and throw anywhere from 30 seconds to 2 minutes worth of techs... then go back out to the floor. If I was waiting in a long line at the bank, or just waiting between customers.. Id be standing on one leg (sometimes even extending the raised leg to hip height). If I was walking from my car through the malls parking lot.. Id be throwing techs. Same when walking in the malls halls. If I walked past a tree that had leaves on it.. Id target a leaf, and kick it. If there was a Parking Lot Post.. Id Heel kick it. If there was a high hanging sign, Id also try to jump kick it.
    I also had built a home "Dojo", so that when I got back home from work.. and after classes... I would then be able to work at home, to the maximum potentials. I had a custom made Sandbag section... with TWO 3-Section sandbag units, mounted vertically.. giving a total of 6 targets in a straight line. The top 3, for barehand punches, the low three, for barefoot kicks. The top mount, was moved about 1 ft forwards, so that you could reach both your hands, and legs... to impact at the same time (as your legs are longer than your arms, so the top bags needed to be closer). The top mount was Pinned in place... but you could remove the pin... and "Punch" the assembly... causing it to slide backwards as you hit it. In this way, you could use the sandbags for both Impact conditioning, as well as Penetration development.
    I also had a standard kick bag, a 6ft tall Muay Thai bag (real leather)... which were mounted to a long metal gas pipe, that ran the entire span of the Attic. This allowed you to be able to do a sidekick... and have the bag slide along the pipe.. to see how far you could make it travel. I had cut the metal chain off of these bags... and replaced them with 2" Strapping material. This made them more quiet... and it provided more Friction, to make moving the bags harder. When I wanted to train statically.. I had two Screw Hooks mounted into the Attic Rafters, and I would attack a bungee cords to them, and around the bags strapping, to prevent it from Sliding when hit. The smaller and lighter canvas bag.. was used for deep penetration kicking. And the Muay Thai bag, I used for general kicking (Front kicks, Crescents, Jump and Spinning kicks, hooks, and more).
    I also had built a custom "Kick" Dummy. I had a steel seller cut me off three 7ft tall sections, of metal pipe. Each pipe was 4 inches in diameter, with a thickness of nearly 1cm (Schd 40). I mounted the pipes between two wooden circles (MDF circles, and 6 PVC pipe flanges). The were placed in a Triangle shape... so that your single leg could reach all of the pipes... similar to the half-height wooden stumps seen in Leung Tings old "Wing Tsung" video. The difference with my Dummy, is that I could train mine Indoors... and that the Pipes didnt move at all.. when kicked (you were Hard Leather bottomed dress shoes, when kicking them. No rubber / foam.. to cushion or rebound your impact). Also, mine were a full 7ft tall... which meant that the upper part of the pipes could be used to Grind your arms on... or could even be Struck with handstrikes. I also had a center mounting hook on the top circle... in which I could hang a canvas bag, filled with about 15 lbs worth of steel bbs. This then allowed me to train kicks and punches, and combinations, on the same Dummy. Yet you could remove the bag easily... for footwork that involved passing between the pipes.
    I also built a custom Iron-Leg shin conditioning bag... using an old pair of Jeans. I cut both pant legs off, and doubled them, for maximum strength. Tied the legs at the bottom. Then I took 3 pairs of sand-filled wrist-weights... and Duct tapped each pair tightly together... and stuffed them all into the pantlegs. Next, I Tied the top closed, and ran a rope loop through the knot.. so that it could be hung from the Loop. I then hung a metal chain from my ceiling mounted pipe... and I could use a spring hook to lock the bag to any height I chose... via any of the chains links. Finally.. I used duct tape, and tightly wrapped the entire Jean Leg, so that it was as Tightly packed as possible (Several layers worth of tape). Even the lightest of Shin Taps with this, felt like you were impacting a solid Rock.
    I also did traditional Iron Body training... Hitting my own body, with my own fists / hands. Typical sessions were 1hr long, and spanning every part of my body.. including chopping my own throat.
    Additionally, I was teaching some private students (not in the very beginning).. and I started trying to spar, about 1yr into my training. I would eventually spar every weekend, against fighters from various different arts. Often choosing to spar against dudes that were up to 2x my own mass and strength.
    Also, note, that my sessions with the Kick dummy, or hitting the sandbags... tended to be a MINIMUM of 1hr sessions. Same with the Iron body conditioning. Typically.. on most drills.. I would strive for 15 minute nonstop sets, with about 2min or less between sets, depending on the drill type. I would often go right from workout, to kicking the bag for 1hr, to punching the sandbags for 1hr... and some other stuff in between... and thats not even counting the in-school work, before any of that took place... Nor the hundreds of handtechs and kicks I had thrown all throughout the day, earlier.
    I maintained that level of Pace and Intensity, for a Solid 3 yrs time, before easing up. After my 3rd year, I had reached Masterclass levels of output... and it was very rare that the local artists could even get a single hit on me. This isnt to brag.. but merely to show the differences in results, from a Casual artist... to someone whom trains 24x7, as a Daily way of Life. As someone whom actually was able to fully master everything to the Fullest extend of what ones body is capable of.

      @@thetruth1862 You cant teach Dedication / Motivation. Either you are Obsessive, or you are not. It did help, that back then, I didnt even own a computer... so I had little in the way of distraction.
      I grew up in poverty.. and wasnt able to do much of anything.. and I longed for the oppertunity to be able to learn martial arts. Especially since I used to get bullied all of the time.
      It wasnt until I was 20yrs old, that I had the money, and was in the right place and time.. that I was able to take up the Martial Arts.
      I was also extremely lucky, as I lived near the largest Wing Chun school in the USA, at that time. Wing Chun was quite rare, especially back then.
      Anyways... I always used to watch these old Chinese Kung Fu films.. as well as did various research on the arts.. and one thing I had read/heard was that the Ancients uses to start their training as young as 3 yrs old. I thought that was crazy... but then I actually saw some modern footage of little 3yr olds doing forms, and quite well.
      As a result... I thought to myself... How the Hell am I supposed to "Catch Up" with someone that started so young?! The only way I could come up with... was to train 10x longer, 10x harder, and push myself 10x harder.
      And it turned out, that was the winning recipe. Good knowledge, is nothing without Hardcore efforts and FULL mastery.
      Its just that most people are not willing to put in that kind of hardcore effort, to achieve Masterclass level results. This is why most artists of Advanced Chinese Combat Arts... cant fight for beans. They never fully master any of it. That said, its also true of a lot of other arts, artists. They cant maintain proper form under combat stress... and they end up looking like bad/sloppy kickboxers.
      I always tell people... that an Unperfected / Non-Mastered technique.. is like trying to cut a tough piece of over-cooked steak... with a dull plastic butterknife. Things will end up failing, due to structural strength issues, coordination issues, poor awareness, and poorly developed Physical Attributes.
      Ive had a few private students in the past... but I could never get them to realize the importance of training to their highest levels of intensity + time invested. Id make it clear, that they NEEDED to train inside AND outside of classes... but none would do any work outside of class... and it was easily apparent, by the results that never advanced. One day I asked a student to do a simple 5 min Footwork drill... and in less than 2 min in... he stops, bends over slowly, and re-ties his shoes. He was doing everything he could to Stall / Rest... and was putting the bare minimum efforts into it. Eventually I got tired of it... and stopped teaching.. as it wasnt worth the extra side money. I wanted to be able to pass on what I had learned... so that the knowledge would be preserved well into the future. I didnt want to waste time, with someone whom only really wanted to do this.. mainly for "Intellectual" reasons.
      So, again.. the key is how bad you want it.. and how much you are willing to work + sacrifice to get it.
      Had that kid put in the same efforts as I did... he would have likely surpassed my own abilities... As I was giving him Special knowledge and Experience, that you wont find anywhere else (without Decades more worth of instruction.. IF you are Lucky to find a teacher that even knows the Real Deal ...and if they are even WILLING to teach the full monty to you).
