    1. Is a rear wheel drive,
    2. Available as a plugin hybrid - range does not need to be more than 30 miles to cover my daily commute.

Offering the GR86 in a (still-sporty) 4-door/liftback would greatly increase the versatility - and sales potential - of this model. The GR Corolla, GR86, Supra, and upcoming MR2 will never be more than very low-volume cars for a company the size of Toyota. This, with the right powertrains, would make sense to supplant at least one or two of those. I'd be plenty happy with either design.

Create open and airy cabins. Not every car has glass sunroofs. Well the original AE86 came in both 2-door Coupe and 3-door liftback designs. But it was built on the Corolla platform back when that was RWD too. I'd love a sporty RWD sedan and the Stinger in its final revised form was an unappreciated gem. But turning the 86 to a shooting brake/wagon while the "practical" GRCorrolla is in the lineup seems much harder than justifying the current entry 4 seat 86, mid-grade 2 seat Supra, and higher grade 2 seat MR2 (or however they end up sorting them). Especially if theres any merit to grCamry rumors.
Maybe 4 doors in the manner of RX-8 + liftback could fit that 86 body form a bit better?

I'd be very sad if we end up losing one of the best entry level lightweight FR coupe offerings just to make way for another $50-60k car. The new MR2 sounds cool but I just can't get that excited about something that expensive. I was hoping for an affordable, lightweight AW11 successor that might slot in around the miata, but they ended up going the SW20 turbo route (more power, more weight, more cost), if the leaks are any indication. Props if they're able to keep weight(and cost) relatively similar, but with a turbo and a larger body, realistically it'll end up being heavier, and costing more.

That spec sheet says 3000 lbs. That's light asf for a hybrid. Even the teeny tiny 1.2kWh battery in the Q50h brings her up to 4000 lbs. It's not just battery weight -- bms, controller, thick gauge wiring, motor itself (made of magnets), mounts w/shock absorbers ... it's all heavy.
And on a heavier frame wagon... AWD is definitely out at that weight. I wonder if there's any weight savings by mounting a hybrid motor directly on the rear axle... but I imagine that savings is lost in the exchange for the size of motor needed to be on the axle w/o getting wrecked by it.

i thought i was lucky to still get my Passat with a manual, but a GR wagon could be so much cooler!
They got the GR Corolla so right, manual, physical handbrake, physical switches for the important features,....
Would have ordered one had they been available in europe.

They could bring back an old name and give it a GR prefix. Given that this will be larger than a Corolla, use the Corona name. After all, Toyota has this obsession with crowns. But it must be the shooting brake design, PLEASE!

They never get us this in the US though. All the buying public wants is an elevated seating position.
Luckily, I snatched a Stinger hatchback to enjoy, while we wait.

Call me boring, but make that 5 door hatchback/shooting brake with an awd hybrid set with around 200-220hp and I'm happy! Make it the entry trim level powertrain with more powerful powertrains above for those that want more performance.

I hope it’s a new platform, something light. Somewhere around the weight of the Toyota Altezza RS200 and current Civic Si (little under 3000lbs).
Imagine that, a weight under 3000lbs making 300hp+ to rear wheels👌.

Unfortunately, it most likely won't be available in the US, especially with a manual transmission. I personally would want it in more of a grocery getter form with 16 inch wheels, the manual and a reasonably fuel efficient naturally aspirated ICE only engine. 190 ish horse power is plenty for my purposes. I'm old enough to remember vehicles with less than 190 hp that did just fine.
