Yeah, in her ending monologue in part 1, she said she was with her best friend when she got bit, didn't know what to do and gave the wait it out and lose our minds together line. Then she says, her name was Riley and she was the first to die. The ending of the DLC is to confirm that to the player.
I don't think so, Ellie talked about how she killed the guy drowning Joel in part 2 then immediately asked Dina when the first time she killed someone was. Plus, she also mentioned that Marlene almost killed Ellie when they first met so maybe Marlene was the one who killed Riley

i think what hits me most is wondering how long it took Marlene and the fireflies to find Ellie? How far did she have to watch Riley change and realise she wasn’t changing herself? Did she contemplate using the gun once Riley changed? Did she have to shoot infected Riley? Such a great DLC for a great all round game. Can’t wait to see your reaction to part 2 and the tv series. I love seeing people’s first reactions to this game especially someone as observant and appreciative as you. I wish I could rediscover this for the first time all over again.

What an amazing playthrough, from start to finish!!! So thoughtful, so thorough. Couple of things - you said you're taking a bit of a break before part 2, and I do recommend it - the themes are quite heavy. Also, avoid spoilers for part 2 at all costs!!! You don't have to watch season 1 of the show before you play part 2, but it might be enjoyable to do so. The show has zero spoilers for part 2 of the game.
When you do part 2 (if you do) you should totally have Troy Baker on as a special guest! it would be so interesting to have two voice actors give some stories about voice acting and stuff. I know that troy baker LOVES the last of us to the ends of the earth so it'd be cool i think.
dont take a break. ride the emotional momentum and dive deep into part 2 right away until you have nothing left to give because it is a hell of a ride.
Every time I watch or replay this game, as amazing as it is, and even though it's in my top 2 games of all time, I'm reminded how the show does some things even better. Hope you really watch the show when you can.
TIP: you don't always have to press L2 and aim to throw bricks and bottles at enemies, there will be a kind of target on them and you just have to press R2 and Ellie will automatically throw the brick/bottle directly at them
