- With its red rocks and roaming Colorado River, the Grand Canyon is stunning by day -- but seeing the park in daylight is only half the story. Astronomers gathered for this summer's Star Party and fired up high-powered telescopes to stare deep into outer space. Jeff Glor reports.
I feel sorry for the young people who cannot see the milky way, I believe every country should make it possible for the night sky to bee seen somewhere in that country. It is more important than seeing tourist attractions in foreign countries
In india you can the night sky every night
I remember as a young boy in the 1950's, lying on my back at night and looking into space. My bucket list includes going to Big Bend,TX and looking to the the stars again.
You were in the 1950s how was it I love to hear what you have to say
This may be the other side of the coin but it must be beautiful in North Korea at night
Yes
Stars and no barking dogs.
Forever excited by the skies/heavens ♥️
2024, baby! Can’t wait to get my scopes set up! You get to meet so many interesting people!
This made my cry 😱😭.. one day i hope to see the Milky Way
Get out a light pollution map, find the nearest place with dark skies, wait until a clear night, get in the car and go! Go!!
Feel the same way
I love you
Kudos to CBS for brining this to light, pardon the pun. Light pollution should be controlled nation wide. Please stay on top of this problem.
I once slept under the Milky Way away from any town or city, I didn’t sleep for hours just quietly examined every star
I envy them....
I’ve been to that exact spot at 1:19 in July!!
#MatherPoint
Not only light pollution, but also satellite pollution. I was a child in the 1950's a last generation to see an unpolluted sky.
It so beautiful I want to cry
Are they really seeing what the time lapse photos are portraying? I've searched high and low for a video of a guy just walking along and then camera pans up to the sky and shows the iPhone 6 wallpaper with billions of stars.
Infrared night vision videos can show some bright stars, but the timelapse images are brighter than how they appear to human vision.
IOW, night photos are overexposed to brighten images taken in otherwise low light.
Nope, the human eye can not replicate the large apertures and long exposures techniques that cameras use. A camera set to long exposure will soak up much more light and will show a much brighter, more saturated Milky Way than a human will probably ever see with their naked eye. That being said, the Milky Way is still absolutely magnificent and gorgeous in person.
Such an important topic. We need people to understand and know about this. I know we can get people to care and make a change!
Starry skies remind me of God. So wonderful...
I’ve seen it faintly one time when the power was shut off due to fires but it wasn’t all that clear cuz there was smoke but it’s crazy seeing it in person
Brilliant
Exactly why I want to move out west closer to the dessert.

I visited G.C night sky in 2017.
You need to lay down and look up
Yes,here is the day, when I can't even see stars in my city due to pollution.

Don't you think we talk about canyon every human life span 100year , how many times people talk about canyon . 500 years where is history at ?

AHH! Notice how the sky seems to rotate around the North Star, but the sun comes up and goes east to west at a 90 degree angle to all this. HUH? That kinda contradicts the possibility of the earth being the one that' s rotating doesnt it? Fact is that the stars are stuck inside a dome that's rotating around us, while the sun also rotates above us at a much slower speed than the stars are moving, and it lights up the inside of the dome as it rises. Wow, YEAH, you can see for yourself. Dont get mad at ME, I dint create this. Confused? forget it.
Garland Parks this dude has never looked out the car window across a field LMAO
Okay “Garland”
You could fly these flat earthers to space and they still wouldn't be convinced. Must be sad to be in denial your entire life.
I would go crazy too if I was as stupid as you dude, dont worry
