    From Wikipedia:
I-95 follows the Connecticut Turnpike from the New York state line eastward for 88 miles (142 km). This portion of the highway passes through the most heavily urbanized section of Connecticut along the shoreline between Greenwich and New Haven, with daily traffic volumes of around 150,000 vehicles throughout the entire 48-mile (77 km) length between the New York state line and the junction with I-91 in New Haven. The turnpike intersects with several major expressways, namely U.S. Route 7 (US 7) at exit 15 in Norwalk, Route 25 and Route 8 at exit 27A in Bridgeport, the Merritt and Wilbur Cross Parkways at exit 38 (via the Milford Parkway) in Milford, and I-91 at exit 48 in New Haven. The Connecticut Turnpike turns north at Exit 76, leaving I-95 and partially following I-395 up to Killingly (there branching off I-395 and turning towards Rhode Island). I-95 continues east of Exit 76 for another 24 miles, skipping next to Exit 80 in Waterford to avoid duplication of exit numbers with the original turnpike numbering in that town, reaching the state line with Rhode Island in Stonington, CT.

The service plazas on this road, otherwise not seen on interstate highways, are historic remnants of when this highway was a toll road.

I almost did the same thing once, drove the same section without traffic delays.
I still can't get used to the I91 exit on the right.

Yeah, this looks like the 95 I'm used to there except I sometimes get on/off at exit 27 (Bridgeport/Port Jeff Ferry). The ferry now is so expensive that I usually take it one way only and drive around the other. Car+passenger is like $85. If you're going to Hartford or north or just to catch 91 - you can take 8 from Bridgeport to the Merritt Parkway.

The ferry is slow and drops you off at Port Jefferson. Way too east for most of LI.

Though no tolls these days (it was $2.10 in 1960), I-95 is still known as the New England Thruway, Connecticut Turnpike and Gov. John Davis Lodge Turnpike. And I like the service areas; gives a sense of adventure, kind of like a pit stop on the race to where you're going. Better to be on the outbound from NYC in the morning than inbound. Some of the better sights are just ahead from where he exited.

I can't wait for that eyesore of that Bridgeport's Harbor Station Unit 5 to be removed (red & white factory stack).

You end this drive headed down the US 1 ramp into Branford. I work at a classic car shop approximately 6 blocks from that exit. Its so cool to see you come down that ramp (which, by the way, needs the Mileage Mike touch and needs to be extendedto include a ramp for southbound exits and northbound entrances... also conveniently stopping travel on I-95 where it bottlenecks to 2 lanes between the very next Branford exit alllllll the way to Providence... it needs to be 3 lanes.

Along that entire 95 corridor is where AMTRAK & MTA METRO-NORTH RAILROAD’S NEW HAVEN LINE from Grand Central Term goes. To New Haven-State St. AMTRAK of goes farther but who cares for now?

Love the scenery but the traffic in Connecticut on i95 is horrible in the evening time , especially when driving a tractor trailer
