If he's an MVP caliber QB taking them deep in the playoffs they can keep him at a bargain rate for two more years. Either way Penix Jr will be primed to take over in 2 years unless Kirk is playing unbelievably great the best football of his career. That would be a good problem to have. Realistically its a 2 year deal on kirk and unless people forgot kirk coming off a injury so he could legit fall off and you dont have a QB in the building. Also next year is kinda a weak QB draft and if the coach hits they might not get a top 3 pick especially in that weak division they in . Yes, the Packers sacrificed one pick that could have been an offensive player for Rodgers. But looking at their record with 2nd and later round receivers, they are doing something right there. And now, instead of having to worry about the QB position, it looks like they might have another ten years of high quality play. Ask the Bears fans if they would sacrifice three picks for 30+ years of steady quarterback play. Or the post Brady Patriots. Or the Falcons for the past few years after Matt Ryan left. The draft is for team building now and in the future. You have to use picks for both. The Falcons decided to do that with this pick. I really thought you guys had it figured out what the Falcons plan is. If anyone thinks Penix is going to sit behind Cousin for two to three years, you're in a bubble, Cousin is not the future of the falcons Penix is. Cousin will be traded before then. People are saying the falcons did Cousin wrong by notifying him at a moment notice they were drafting Penix. If i could get a $100,000,000 guaranteed signing, I could care less who they bring in. Let me get that bag.

The Falcons are going to have a new HC and GM going into the 2025 draft, so it doesn't really matter too much. You can't screw up THIS bad. Either the draft pick was a mistake or the 180 million contract was a mistake. Or both. Any of those is enough to can the GM. When Morris fails as a head coach, AGAIN, he and the GM will be shown the door. And the new regime will almost certainly prefer the stable vet, Cousins, over the old oft-injured and unproven Penix.
