How anyone can say "horrible lesson" is beyond me. This really captures the details of the playing which is so important to get the essence of the song. EXCELLENT lesson. Saw another lesson on this which is not even close to being as good
Thanks! Well, it's okay that he thought that - obviously his feelings are his own. But it would have been helpful if he "clued me in" on why he thought it was horrible. Then I could consider how and/or whether to fix it. Frankly, it seems most people think otherwise. So if I've helped a few people ... that's all I can hope for really. I appreciate your listening and your compliments!!
There seems to be a huge gap between those who just want to steal the spotlight and those who actually LOVE the Music. Some tunes can be unplugged for the campfire and for me that's all I need! so Thanks again for taking the time to teach us!
Great! Let me know when you've got it posted. Is this going to be another "all instruments" video? They're fun! Also, did you study physics/EE? That's my background too. Studied at Wayne State in Detroit.
@@MarkZabel yes I’m playing everything, The closest I got to being an engineer was my years with IBM as a customer engineer. Then I went into management so it was all people business for 30 years. You’d be surprised how many IT directors and IT managers were guitar players I would go to meetings where we cover the IBM business and then do a little Led Zeppelin.
Very good instruction, I learnt this within the hour and playing it with ease now thanks to your wonderful teaching. Thank you so much! It is one of most favourite songs, and I saw Joe Walsh in concert last week, he is freakin amazing!! Xxx
Mark, that was the first video that I've seen by you, and I really enjoyed it. I played the guitar as a teenager, but stopped in my early 20's. After 42 years, I've started playing again. Thanks a lot Mark. this is a great lesson. Playing a little over a year, and never thought I could get near a Joe Walsh tune. I sound better than I am!
This is the bestest lesson of like any song the best part was him trying to teach the feel of right playing :) hats off to this person what a spirit he has :)
Great video! From the thumbnail, you liked like an old manager of mine and I didn't know what to expect. But I've learnt a few times this year, never to judge a book by its cover. You explained it expertly and your earnestness and enthusiasm made it that much easier to pick this up in no time!

I would like to add, although slide is there in the studio version, there is plenty of footage of Joe Walsh/ The Eagles playing this without slide, certainly no slide used when played in the Hell Freezes over or Farewell One tour DVDs. The reason I mention this is because some keyboard warriors were getting their knickers in a twist over someone doing a cover in another You Tube video and not using slide.
+luvstellauk Thanks. Good to know! It's one of the reasons I haven't done a couple other JW songs too. I'm human and the guitar is a puzzle to be solved and enjoyed. But as the creator of these videos, I still cannot separate the emotion I feel when I see a negative comment or even get a dislike. Hey Dwight! I'm not sure what you're talking about with respect to STH and the Zep boys. Did I make a comment on that in this video? If so, I hope I was joking. The "rip off" is from an old English carol called "Coventry Carol" ... the author's name is lost to history (1500's I think!), so it's fair game to use the progression (same as the one JP uses in the intro to STH). I actually think it's really cool that they "stole" it - more like they integrated it into their brand of 1970's blues rock (of which they were at the forefront in its definition). So no offense meant to JP/Zep. That they used something that was essentially done before (1500's!) is totally okay with me!!
Mark Zabel Actually they, Page/Zep, are being sued by the band Spirit for plagarizing a song they wrote. The intro to STH is copied from the Spirit song. arthur8557 Hey Arthur! Didn't know about the lawsuit ... but Coventry Carol and the Mel Bay version for guitar must pre-date Spirit's Taurus too. My guess is that if the Zep boys are called to the mat they may use a defense partly on pre-existing stuff. Thanks for the info!!
I haven't played that one in years, but I used to. The intro is pretty cool and a bit tricky. Let me give it a listen and put it on the list! Thanks for the listen!
the acoustic part triad is the d shape f triad chord at fifth fret not the Ami triad so F triad then Ami triad and the second chord is the C triad at 3rd fret great tune
Very close. I don't teach high school. I teach math and problem solving to adults in businesses ... and I lead analytics at my company. Thanks for the kind comment. I try my best!
Hi Mark! This is great! I got two questions, did you ever do the second part of the song? Also, have you heard of a song called "Far Behind" by Candlebox? Can you please do a lesson on it? If you like the song.
@@MarkZabel Hey thanks Mark! Here is a link to the song. Let me know what you think, do you dig or not? Thank you ruclips.net/video/OJjU8INYbYU/видео.html&ab_channel=PierreGaston
Sure thing. That's a nice ... steelhead or bow ... can't tell because the photo is tiny ... but it's a nice fish! Gotta get out this weekend. We still have a few in our neck of the woods ... er, stream that is. Thanks for watching!
cool profile pic and nice playing too.....I ve always wondered... Is this melody maker have any similarity at the sound in bridge position with a tele?
Thanks George! The MM is an awesome, underrated guitar. It's amazing what you can do with just a single (single coil) pickup a volume knob and a tone knob. For the sound I usually dial in I like to describe the growl of this pickup as between a Tele bridge and a P90. It's not quite as raunchy as a P90, but it has more "ooomph" than a Tele bridge. But if I dial up the tone (I've got it at about 4 in this video.) I can get a good Tele bridge sound. Thanks for listening!

Fantastic lesson. Could you do the solo? I'm making it too hard, and it's a simple solo, which is its charm.
Sure, no problem. It's essentially 2 or 3 lines which are (almost) the same. As you say, that's what makes it charming! :)
Thanks, it's one of my favorite solos -- Joe Walsh really knows how to take a little and make a lot!

Sure. I'll put that on the list of todo's (pretty long one now though, so please be patient! :)
Well done, but Joe doesn't use the first position F chord, just the triad F at the fifth fret, as you can clearly see if you watch him playing it.
Okay, thanks. I don't get wrapped around the axle on such things generally, but it's good to know.
I think the first triad is a D position on fifth fret. Which is an F chord. The second part is Am. Thanks for the tutorial Mark

I haven't played that one in years, but I used to. The intro is pretty cool and a bit tricky. Let me give it a listen and put it on the list!
Thanks for the listen!
Thanks Bro
the acoustic part triad is the d shape f triad chord at fifth fret not the Ami triad so F triad then Ami triad and the second chord is the C triad at 3rd fret great tune
That’s a funky guitar.

Thanks Angel. I did a lesson on Joe's solo to the song. I never heard of "Far Behind", but I'll give it a listen. Thanks for the suggestion!
@@MarkZabel Hey thanks Mark! Here is a link to the song. Let me know what you think, do you dig or not? Thank you

Thank you. Much appreciated!!
AWESOME> Can''t wait
cool profile pic and nice playing too.....I ve always wondered...
I have to check a MM soon...thanks
