I'm proud to say that I've known Kevin since he was 4. I'm so happy to see that his brilliant mind is changing lives. A heartfelt thanks to Kevin and the clinic for their selfless, humble and illuminating work. Our world is a better place because of them.

I love how he's not "othering" the Amish, or shaming them for being insular. He has so much respect!

I'm a licensed nurse with speciality in disability studies, my brother and his wife are doctors. I've always respected doctors in general and even more so in my own field. But this gave me goosebumps. Such skilled and passionate doctors. Thank you Kevin Strauss!

Why do I feel like crying when he showed the video of the boy with GA-1 with his brother and he looked unaffected? The work he and the entire staff at the clinic is doing is wonderful. Bless them.

There is another program on youtube that someone recorded off of their t.v. and they said that a lot of genetic disorders are caused by inbreeding. The Amish marry amongst themselves and very, very rarely accept outsiders into their community. So there are people that are related, getting married and having children.

I believe that fancy introduction he gave meant inbreeding

There is more going on than the founders effect, and that should be addressed.

Forgive my ignorance - I don't know the details of US medical bureaucracy - Why is accepting US government grant money a bad thing? I would have thought for a clinic short on money, a government grant to continue research would be a valuable thing.

Because the Amish are ultimately anti government, accept when it comes to trump.

My guess is, to qualify for grants you need to be inspected routinely, abide by safety standards, tons of paperwork probably incompatible with Amish people

Unfortunately, or atleast not to my knowledge.. your genome is not able to be changed. Your chromosomes are within every single cell of your body.
We would have many things solved if so v-v
