    The quietness of it is night and day compared to the metal plates. I don’t ride anywhere close to the stuff you’re doing, so this gives me much more peace of mind.

    Ive just recently purchased a KTM 690r. The bike had a KTM aluminum bash/skid plate already fitted, (which i am happy about). When doing my research b4 purchasing, many people stated to get rid of the stock plastic skid plate for a stronger alloy one. To me, i thought that this seemed to be a logical decision. When i picked up the bike from the shop however, they provided me with the stock plastic skid plate along with the bike. Being able to hold this plastic skid plate in my hands, there is no doubt that it would offer substantial protection. A thick chunk of plastic under the bike would absorb a great deal of impact i believe. As said though, i still think that the Alloy one will be much stronger and take a greater bashing, but in reality, that plastic one would probably withstand anything i would likely throw at it.

      Absolutely. The stock plates will do the job for what most people are doing with an adventure bike. These thicker Bash plates purpose built for flogging also add extra coverage

    Personally I agree 100%, as enduro rider I hate steel plates. They make engine noise is higher, rocks, dents, hitting stuff is just not nice. With plastic one I just like to charge againts rocks and stuff without noises, it slide better and is lighter.

    Great to see someone who's done some proper thrashing.. been leaning towards the idea of a plastic skid plate on 300 Rally that is coming and your info / experience just made the decision for me. Now on to cut off that lower bodywork that's in the way...

    Hey Skids, great review and excellent points on the benefits of the plastic over alloy, my DR had an alloy bash plate already fitted but at the price I would consider changing to the Acerbis.

      The previous owner also had had an alloy bashy when I bought the Warpig. Changing out to this plate was the first thing I did.

    Take two metal skid plates and sandwich them around your cutting board, then toss them in the oven and slump the plastic sheet to press mold it. Cool it off, drill it, and trim to fit... "Cutting board skid plate" or make it from a sheet of HDPP or UHMWPP... You may be able to do a gravity slump over a positive casting.

    • @thetruthserum2816
      @thetruthserum2816 Год назад +1

      Better yet, take a cutting board and a heat gun, bolt the cutting board to the frame, then use a heat gun to bend and shape the board. Mark and trim...

    good vid I had writen off the plastic skid plates but the lack of the sound the aluminum one gave me does sound nice and if it holds up to your abuse its got to be fairly legit.

    My bike came with a plastic one and it's worked very well! Recently upgraded to an AXP HDPE which is thicker all-around and protects the linkage. Wasn't happy with the cost, but hopefully it's worth it in the long run. Do you ever see Kangaroos while on a ride?

    • @SKIDSnSTUFF
      @SKIDSnSTUFF  2 года назад +4

      ALWAYS see kangaroos while riding. If ya see them cross ip front it means slow down cos others are following. Sometimes they jump along side if there is a fence in between, this is my favourite cos ya can really appreciate there loong leaps. Had one tag my helmet while jumping over the me/trail once. Only hit and killed one, demolished front of my bike

    Is your oil level a bit low - nothing in the sight glass? Or does it only appear when the bike is upright?

    While I don't (can't) ride my DR 650 like you, I am fully confident in the Acerbis unit. Especially considering the weight of the DR.
    The aluminum one on my dirt bike has needed to be hammered back into shape on occasion and as a result, the oil drain hole is not aligned so well.

    • @SKIDSnSTUFF

    • @SKIDSnSTUFF

      Not usually. Fine for light use, but stockys are usually thinner and don't provide as much coverage
