My favourite technique is to have a distraction sheet by my desk. Whenever I'm distracted, I wrote it down on the sheet and get back to my work but I have all my distractions written down to revisit at a later date. It can be something small like replying to an email or something bigger like remembering to watch the new episode of my favourite show!

Kind reminder that if you're someone with ADHD like me, these tips might not work the same way for you. That is not to say they're not valuable or useful, but I just want to remind you that's ok and you shouldn't feel like you're doing something wrong if this doesn't click right away for you. I always struggled with my ADHD and using tips like his have been a life changer but they did come with much struggle to adjust to at first because I'm not only fighting average distractions, I'm fighting my own condition constantly.

Where I struggle most is avoiding distractions at the end of the work day. My job runs through a daily cycle of setup, monitor, make adjustments, wrap up, system maintenance, and prep for the following day. It's the systems maintenance and prep for the following day after the frenetic wrap-up where I struggle to hold focus on tasks that I actually want to do and like to do! So far, the only solution I've found is that when I realize that I'm scrolling Facebook instead of doing my work is to take a nap (at my desk, at work - I know). Sometimes I can focus after a nap. Sometimes I'm still distracted. But I'm losing time every day because I can't find an effective way to remain efficient at the end of my work day.

time blocking is actually what i ended up doing. im currently learning more about how to be productive and how to manage my time because these were all lessons i ignored in highschool. and now that i have to split my time between work, uni and fun, i’ve found it hard. and currently, what rlly helps me is just having a time set to do what i need to do. maybe it’s kind of extreme at the moment because im setting time from when i wake up to when i eat and to when i sleep. legit, i’ve got a block of time that’s just for booting up my brain 😭. it’s an hour where i can eat, drink some coffee and just sit around. but when that hour’s up, i should be on to the next thing.
