You mentioned the way way back!! I’m so thrilled, I randomly found it one summer, and it left me speechless. It was so poignant and spoke to the loneliness of youth and the struggles of family life. It touched me deeply, and it’s such a hidden gem.
The secret life of Walter Mitty changed how I lived my life. It made me understand and appreciate the routine. Without routine the world probably won't even exist. Everything has something that works behind the scenes. Made me love my mundane life and how once in a while regardless of financial issues just take tripe that you've never been before cause it gives you a new perception about life. Someday if i ever get to meet Ben Stiller i would absolutely try my best to convey my gratitude towards him.

Dude, I relate to this so much! The soundtrack alone always makes me feel hope for my future and my ability to overcome adversities in order to see a brighter future for myself and the people that I love. There are so many scenes in the first half of this movie alone where you see Walter engage in behavior that is so reflective of someone that’s struggling with life itself only for the movie show you that the only thing you really need in situations like that is to embrace the surrounding chaos and ride the wave. Entertainment can be really inspiring, especially when it's not trying to moralize or shove lessons down our throats too much and just tries to tell a good story first and foremost.

For ME it was Schindler's List that literally turned my life around. When that came out I was a young, brash, SELF ABSORBED, SELFISH ASSHOLE who just lived life for myself with no regard for anyone else. GRATITUDE was the central theme of that movie and from that day on I developed an "attitude of gratitude" for everyone/everything in my life and to empathize with other people's suffering which I never paid attention to before. Highly recommended.

One of the greatest movies and portrayals. It demonstrates empathy and sympathy amongst inhumane conditions. The ending where he struggles with not having saving more Jews is heartwrenching and tearful. Glad it changed your attitude.

If you haven’t already seen it I’d recommend “Good Will Hunting” a very eye opening movie that stuck with me

Seriously, more importantly because Kevin Reynolds I feel has gotten one of the worst damn deals, he’s a pretty damn good filmmaker. Or at least decent. The Beast of War is among my favourite movies, and one of the best war movies, i mean the subject matter alone is unique for a big Hollywood flick, let alone an english-language film. But more importantly is such a masterclass in editing, pacing, absolute thrills, using visuals while also having that element of theatre-adaptation in the very functional efficient dialogue and characters
I mean he did make Waterworld, all that money and a lot of work and ppl just endlessly shit on it

I 100% agree with “Crazy, Stupid, Love” on this list. It was a jumping point for me to figure out how to show confidence and dress better. It also showed me how to break away from a VERY bad rut after a breakup that had a huge impact on my life. Great movie!

It’s actually a very solid film. I feel that it’s especially strong because it initially presents being more open to things as a positive trait, but it can easily lead to you becoming too careless and spontaneous as a result. It’s all down to balance; you should always try to broaden your horizons but also find some measure of stability and consistency so that you don’t end up ruining yourself.

Honestly, I've been in the "self-help" scene a few years, but I've kind of fallen out of it, not because I don't like it or because i "gave up", but because I don't think there's much new to be said.
But before that, and even after I've fallen from it, I keep learning through movies. Movies have taught me so many lessons, it's insane. Not all of them, sure, but some have also changed my life.
So, in short, yeah, absolutely continue this video. Even if the movies you recommend are not great, simply hearing your insight on them and what they taught you is immensely interesting to me, and I know it is to others as well

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button to this day is the most inspired movie for me. Really made me think about the trajectory of our lives and the decisions we make. How people who start off as complete strangers end up having such a huge impact on who we are today. How at times, we have complete control and at times, we have zero control of our lives and we just need to find the balance between the two. How, where we are today is a result of what we did a year ago. Where we will land a year from now will be the result of what we do today. The quote from the film that has always stayed with me is:
“For what it’s worth: it’s never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of. And If you find that you’re not, I hope you have the courage to start all over again”.

I would also add Little Miss Sunshine to this list. I watch that movie whenever I need a big emotional pick-me-up. It's absolutely brilliant, especially from the second half where all the characters start to grow, and then when it ends with them dancing together it's just magical. It reminds you to enjoy the little things in life and to find that joy in what really matters, not in what we perceive that matters. I personally think it's Steve Carrell's best role, and that's saying something.
I have a hard time with the final act of that movie because of the beauty pageant. Seeing all those young girls paraded around like that just felt gross. I honestly don’t understand how child pageants are a real thing. The whole idea just seems so icky.

Yes!!! I absolutely adore the deep layers of this film. Mainly about the unfairness in life, how's everyone has their own limits and starting points and you shouldn't make your life a beauty contest against others. It's also very much about healthy realitionship with failures and how to heal from them & finding comfort. It's also extremely fun to watch, it's kinda harsh theme doesn't make the film heavy - it's funny, heartwarming, has great characters and dynamics between them, ups & downs though all of the script. It's also an effective critic of the American hustling culture and the fakeness of it.
It's also brilliantly directed - some really clever examples of the direction: the use of the stucked Van pushed by the family, the use of the horn to create stress, Dwayn's mental breakdown with him knocking his head on the Van's doors, the shot of Dwayn's run down from the van with his scream with the family watching him from the above. The use of the beauty contest metaphor, the final dancing scene. The attention to little details. It's just went over most people's heads

Great list and terrific explanations. The only one I haven't seen is Way Way Back, which I'll check out. I really like how some of your choices aren't obviously life changing (Limitless, Crazy Stupid Love, Catch Me if You Can) but you really explained well what can be gleaned from those movies as inspiration.
Not so sure about Elf being in the list, but even if it doesn't motivate self-improvement, I guess it's something you need to watch anyway 😂

Loved this style of video! 'Good Will Hunting' and 'Schindler's List' have had the greatest impact on my life.
The Way Way Back is such a good coming-of-age movie! I first watched it when I was 15 and have recently rewatched it. Funny, relevant and kind of an emotional rollercoaster.

From a young age on, I very much began to feel the difference in impact of movies on me...this practically goes for any art form, like writing, music...even video games (if you want to go so far and count them as an art form ;).
I believe that art in general plays a vital and strong part in our evolution as humans.

A movie that changed my perspective on things is Stranger than Fiction. The idea that you can break out of the mundane if you just look around and make the most of your time. It taught me to be flexible and accept kindness a little more freely. Another was Persepolis - it taught me about the dangers and pitfalls of legalistic religious practices.
Oh and almost forgot - Adventureland. Perfect coming of age film just for fun.

So far I watched Fight Club, Limitless and Groundhog day since I say your video. So far out of these movies, groundhog day was the one that had an immediate impact on me and my life since the very moment I watched it. That same day I suddenly had a whole new perspective on how I live my life each day, I had a much longer conversation with my grandad who called me, I just started appreciating so much more, listening to totally different music. All in day one. I felt like I'm in a loop, so I might as well get the kick out of it as much as I can.

Also Yes Man with Jim Carrey is a great movie for this, changed my life quite a bit and caused me to say yes a lot more to things in life. More spontaneous things to get out of this monotonous world I trapped myself in. Told me to look out and seek romance for myself and say yeah to it, it overall helped me.
You should read the book it's based on. That's a true story, and is also very, very funny.
The Trueman Show with Jim Carrey is another one of his that has a powerful message of seeing beyond what we believe our lives to be to live our truths.

I went through a phase were I was kinda depressed in college and watched a ton of coming of age dramas. The Way Way Back was great. A few similar ones I'd recommend are Mud, The Spectacular Now, Place Beyond the Pines, Perks of Being a Wallflower, Mid90s, and Edge of Seventeen

Elf is so good because it's all about never losing the wonder and excitement that we had as kids - yes it's silly and childish but it's all about someone who's jaded looking at someone who is excited by everything he sees and it's a great message about not losing that childhood wonder in your life

There's one bit of dialogue in Jacob's Ladder that affected me in a big way. I think they used it in an Unkle song. It's about Jacob being afraid of dying and seeing Demons - but if he stops being afraid, they're angels. Basically the line is about how we are in control of how we perceive and respond to everything in our lives and it's entirely our choice. And also, I love watching Paterson to relax. So for me it's Jacob's Ladder and Paterson.
Sam Rockwell deserved an Oscar for "The Way Way Back". Low-key absolutely rewatchable classic. A case study in the family dynamic, from a funny and poignant angle.

Yes, please continue. I have seen around a third of these movies and agree with your interpretation. I will seek out the others. Fight Club hit me at a primal level - a need to let go absolutely; to embrace loss as a starting point for maturity. Not a very popular message in cinema, but it remains powerful nearly twenty five years later. I would add Babe because the film is a reminder that success may come from the least expected sources, and that a quiet, firm belief can overcome personal setbacks and the doubts of those who say something cannot and should not be done

Sometimes you just need a little good vibes in your life to improve your current perspective of things..A movie doesn't have to be complex or dark to be really good. Superbad, Bad Neighbors and Elf are examples of that. Even though a movie like First Man might be a "better" movie, a funny movie such as Superbad might improve your life-situation just as much

Along with "The Count of Monte Cristo", I have "The Shawshank Redemption" in my top 10 list of movies that have had a profound effect on my ability to maintain a positive perspective during life's challenging moments.
I love Steve Carell's way of being able to accurately portray character's personality development with so much emotion and accuracy without making it seem weird or like "where tf did this come from." Really underrated actor.
Elf is an absolute classic and I will die on this hill. Great video and would love to see a part two.

Dude this list is so genuine I love it! No prentious films that have great scores or meta plots. Just a random list of movies that had an impact. I think people forget that lower rated/comedy films can still impact your life in a meaningful way.
