First time hearing this song was when I was a young teen in 2006. It was on the drive home from the shops here in Melbourne, Australia. I was in the passenger seat holding a Xbox game copy of GTA: San Andreas reading the manual. I was telling dad to change the station as I was unhappy with live radio talk shows until we stumbled across the opening to this song on a random music station. Dad said in Filipino, "let's keep it on, it's building up to something..." He wasn't wrong! We were both blown away by music we were totally unfamiliar with. Next day, we came back to the shops and ended up buying the album to listen to. I couldn't be more grateful for such memorable times. Nowadays it's hard to find a band or music to this standard. I feel they don't make music like this anymore. Anyway, any suggestions of modern bands I'm missing out on would be f**king awesome!

I live in an apartment block, my neighbours keep playing Oasis - Wonderwall on their balcony and smoking weed which wafts into our apartment where my baby is sleeping. Well this week my baby is away visiting relatives, I’m off work, so me and the neighbours are going to listen to TOOL, because I fucking love TOOL, especially at max volume, and I will happily listen to it all day, every day, for a week.
After years of festering in the dark, they finally arouse from they're decade long slumber to unleash a torrent of ear candy upon us mortals up top their thrones. I dunno, I guess that's one way to put it.
@Bryce This is a pretty good point -- while we do have a tendency to dwell on tragedies, it's also for the same reason we treat history so important, because it actually helps us avoid making mistakes of the past. If we know what's going on in the world and we're awake to it, we'll probably be better prepared for the same thing that could very well happen to us too.
I love that part at 3:09 it always sounded to me like he’s sounds more saddened/disgusted by what he’s saying again compared to the first time at 2:22 where he sounds angry that he’s admitting it.
Holy fucking shit. I never thought to give the lyrics any attention everytime I played this because the melody is so damn crisp. I'm high, listening, and giving attention to the lyrics. My God. Artistic magnificance. These lads might be the greatest to ever grace a guitar and rock out. I'm completely in a haze.
I remember hearing this song around when 10,000 Days first dropped and being blown away because it was the first Tool song I had ever listened to. After listening to their discography I still think this track is one of if not their best.
the artists that make up all three bands are one of a kind. no one will ever come close, as for TOOL there are no words to describe the genius, artistry. This band is truly one of a kind and I thank God for allowing Maynard to share is art, his passion with the world and most definitely myself.....i pray they keep going until they just can't anymore
Sounds like you need to spit that tool out and explore a little. There is all kinds of great music out there. This is only a fraction of the great music out there, kid. You'll see.
The lyrics of this one are a heavy trip. As humans we all have a hardwired capacity for hate, selfishness, violence and the like. But we also have the capacity for love, courage, kindness, and gratitude. At the end of the day, we do have the choice to feed one or the other, we must remember that. But that is the curse of the animal world, it has no concept of these things. Animals have no bloodlust as we know the term, nor the ability to appreciate beauty. Their blessing is they are in perfect harmony with nature, which also happens to be the true curse of us humans, that we are not. Much love to you all
for a decade all of their songs were available as full albums and also fan videos with songs that didnt have music videos that fit perfectly. Fuck their record label man
I'm 48 and have been into music since I was a little kid listening with my Dad to LPs in the basement. After all my phases and musical interests (and silly attempts at playing instruments), I cannot believe how awesome this band is. Both on a musical level I can only appreciate and a lyrical level I can absolutely relish, I believe these guys are the best thing to happen to RNR in my life. I grew up on southern and punk rock, Dead can Dance and Misfits, Exploited and Minor threat, and some of their logos tattooed on me. They speak to me psychologically, metaphysically, metaphorically, literally, and so much more. I'll never stop listening to their material and growing from it somehow.
been raging to these guys since the mid 90s and I am powerless to the energy. simply can not get enough. it continues to hit hard day after day, year after year.
Every time I listen to Tool I feel like reading a story , in the same time I feel that story coming to life in front of my eyes. A really advanced level of music , just damn. SPEECHLESS
I can’t be the only one. Seriously, this chorus gets me high every time it hits. Something about the part.... 2:22 cuz I need to watch THINGS die.....when “things” hits, with that guitar part, it’s like injected into my veins. God damn this band is the best.
@@HiDro111 if i can learn how to do it i'd like to do a forensic files tribute video with clips from the show at the same exact time of each lyric which pertains to the crime as the song plays...i can picture it and as the song plays during instrumental parts have flash clips of the killers in cuffs and court... but the part "\shot by his own son" there was an episode of that 2 actually, and she put poison in his tea another episode and then drowned by the ocean one of the boyfriends drowned his girlfriend in the ocean and then shot her after to make it look like a random mugger.just a creative idea but it may get copyright claimed
The second Tool song I heard but the first that I really listened to and man is this track outstanding. As I explore their catalogue I still haven’t found a track I like more.
I've listened to TOOL for a long time, but listening to this again today, especially since the recent back-to-back mass shootings, is giving me such different perspective based on where we are in the world today. Incredible band, enjoy your journey in discovering them!

This already was my favorite album ever, but in the last two years I have listened to Fear Inoculum non stop. Now I have renewed my appreciation for this album as well, can never get enough of this music no matter how often it plays. Tool fan 4ever.
This song will stay for long years as one the most epic songs of all time... Thanks Tool for this beautiful piece of art. The combination of both parts lyrics/music its just unexplainable. Pure emotion...

My favourite Tool song by far. Super unique intro and sound, and the lyrics both sound great and are straightforward. I actually think the lyrics and the meaning of the song are now more relevant than ever. Drums are crazy good as always I should add. Amazing cymbals.
I went to the most recent tool concert in Pittsburgh with my dad and heard this song and it was amazing. I first found out about tool from an old friend who I ended up running into at the concert. I started listening to tool about a few months ago and I've been a fan since.

Well this week my baby is away visiting relatives, I’m off work, so me and the neighbours are going to listen to TOOL, because I fucking love TOOL, especially at max volume, and I will happily listen to it all day, every day, for a week.
The best song ever, greetings from Poland to the all Tool fans !
👍🏻👊🏻🤙🏻 (From America.)
TOOL's current bassist is from Poland 😉
Polska górą💪😎🇵🇱
This is one of my favorite songs of all time.
how can a band be sooooo good?
It can be when Adam Jones , Danny carey , Justin chancellor and maynard James Keenan are in a single band !
Ask the carpenters🙄lol seriously, this is the band other bands should try and be like!! When I grow up I want to be Maynard 😁
Shit happens sometimes
Simple answer - perfection 👌🏽
yes
OHHH FUCK! Are they on spotify now?
OH SHIT OH SHIT THEY ARE OH SHIIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
Enjoy Spotify kiddos
After years of festering in the dark, they finally arouse from they're decade long slumber to unleash a torrent of ear candy upon us mortals up top their thrones.
I dunno, I guess that's one way to put it.
Tool in my heart
The lyrics are genius.
All of his lyrics... i feel'm in my bones! No matter which musical entity he's fearlessly frontin' at the time!!!!
Why cant we just admit it!
@Bryce ?
And I his muse
there's just no other combo like these guys playing together.
For real, their timing is so unique. I haven't found any band that comes close to sounding like Tool
In the 70s Rush was the tool of those days.
Thank you Guitar Hero World Tour for including this song and two more from Tool. Easily the best part about that game.
I actually found out about Tool from that game so yeah. Easily the best part. :D
Vicarious
Schism
Parabola
And I can FC all of them on expert.
@@vicariouschism86 i love being a mini Danny carey on expert
The intro to this song on WT is sooooo fun to play
I failed this song on the last note- 😭
I love that part at 3:09 it always sounded to me like he’s sounds more saddened/disgusted by what he’s saying again compared to the first time at 2:22 where he sounds angry that he’s admitting it.
He’s just admitting that he is disgusting, as we should all admit to ourselves. Credulous is the desire to believe in angles in the hearts of men.
Good catch! Never noticed that before. Like a good book, you always find new things in Tool songs.
He does that with all the songs I think, so the hook isn't just a simple loop and instead progresses as the song goes on.
Even if the countenance of the music is cryptic, dark, and somewhat terrifying, the energy and power it brings reminds you to LIVE.
theri songs are literally the best bad trip of your life lmao
Holy fucking shit. I never thought to give the lyrics any attention everytime I played this because the melody is so damn crisp. I'm high, listening, and giving attention to the lyrics. My God. Artistic magnificance. These lads might be the greatest to ever grace a guitar and rock out. I'm completely in a haze.
“holy fucking shit” rosetta stoned reference
Tool has always been able to let me vent certain emotions or frustrations, God I love their originality
I remember hearing this song around when 10,000 Days first dropped and being blown away because it was the first Tool song I had ever listened to. After listening to their discography I still think this track is one of if not their best.
More relevant than ever.
Michael Jones yes
Came from news site here to relax...
So true. After all these years, since the release, the song remains so accurate.
The media feeds on tragedy.
Thank You! We are like minded, literally came here to listen and say that.
"We all feed on tragedy, it's like blood to a vampire" so true
Speak for yourself.
My favourite
My favorite TOOL song
This is a total masterpiece
Will never get tired of this song. I live vicariously through it.
"Have a good mornin'" - Uncle Lou
*Tools not selling out, they are taking their power back!*
Tool already sold out, they sold their souls to make a record maaaaan. I BOUGHT ONE!!!
Time has come to paaaaaaay
They sold out long before you ever even heard their name
Nah they laid down and sucked up to the man :P
I came for the Hooker With a Penis quotes =D
I’m 16 now, this has been my favorite band since the 5th grade, got to see them live in 7th grade. Awesome
Good taste kiddo
the artists that make up all three bands are one of a kind. no one will ever come close, as for TOOL there are no words to describe the genius, artistry.
You'll see.
Agreed
The lyrics of this one are a heavy trip. As humans we all have a hardwired capacity for hate, selfishness, violence and the like. But we also have the capacity for love, courage, kindness, and gratitude. At the end of the day, we do have the choice to feed one or the other, we must remember that.
But that is the curse of the animal world, it has no concept of these things. Animals have no bloodlust as we know the term, nor the ability to appreciate beauty. Their blessing is they are in perfect harmony with nature, which also happens to be the true curse of us humans, that we are not.
Much love to you all
The last minute of this song is amazing.
The last 7 minutes of the song is amazing
The last 8 seconds especially
I understand different tastes in music. Some may not like this style. But there's no denying the technical ability and musical talent of this band.
First TOOL song i ever heard, still the best imo.
Same
The 533 people who disliked this are clearly not living vicariously through Tool
for a decade all of their songs were available as full albums and also fan videos with songs that didnt have music videos that fit perfectly. Fuck their record label man
Taylor Swift got 533 accounts.
Genius
🙏 YHVH 🐍
The drums are even more maniacal!!!
The vocals on this song are just mesmerizing
You just know you've grown niche af when TOOL feels like pop music to your ears
Haha I can relate. And vice versa: sometimes contemporary pop sounds to me like strange hardcore stuff.
@@TubeYou2079yes omg 🤣

HISTORY IN THE MAKING ,MY DUDES!!!!
Hectic Pain fuck yeah!!!!
Fuck yoouuuuu!lol what do you meab
A bunch of dinosaurs finally getting on a streaming platform 15 yrs after launch is not exactly history
Nathan Zwiener bruh chill out and let people have their fun
my friend in TOOL!!!!!
The "So it's always been" line around 6:10 gives me acid flashbacks and sends me to the center of the universe every freakin time!
The universe has no center son, it’s expanding everywhere.
That bass tone is amazing 🔥
The way he delivers “that’s my kind of story, it’s NO fun til someone dies”
Chills every single time!! 😮💨👏🏻
U r 46+2

The universe is hostile, so impersonal. But at least we have TOOL!
That's one way to look at things
thats the only way to look at things!!!! TOOL.
Tool will teach you otherwise if you understands
BILL BRASKY!!!
This is definitely a song I will listen to for the next three hours.
3:26 This is my favorite part of the song. The double drum sticks on the snare to accent the snare is so nice here!
been raging to these guys since the mid 90s and I am powerless to the energy. simply can not get enough. it continues to hit hard day after day, year after year.
Every time I listen to Tool I feel like reading a story , in the same time I feel that story coming to life in front of my eyes.
A really advanced level of music , just damn. SPEECHLESS
These songs have more meaning than 99% of all music ever made, Tool will always be THE best. Just quality music in every way.
best song to light a cig too in the car with jamming on me radio, reminds me of alot of cool shit... love tool... peace
Hell ya lung cancer driving down the road hell ya
Use Tool as a tool to help you quit, bud. I smoked for 15 years. You can do it!!!
Maynard tapped into The Grudge with his vocals in this song, that time-stopping, hair-raising primal shift in dynamic without missing a goddam beat.
I can’t be the only one. Seriously, this chorus gets me high every time it hits. Something about the part.... 2:22 cuz I need to watch THINGS die.....when “things” hits, with that guitar part, it’s like injected into my veins. God damn this band is the best.
The awakening of Tool is what this world needs right now!
This song perfectly describes what is happening in the world today.
i watch forensic files alot i swear this song could sum up the entire show and true crime...humans are messed up
@@kimmyfreak200 Agreed. I watch that sometimes and you are completely correct.
So does every other song ever recorded
Pretty much … mass shootings here and there
The second Tool song I heard but the first that I really listened to and man is this track outstanding. As I explore their catalogue I still haven’t found a track I like more.
It's a good one to get you introduced. The lyrics are amazing and it's heavy!
I've listened to TOOL for a long time, but listening to this again today, especially since the recent back-to-back mass shootings, is giving me such different perspective based on where we are in the world today. Incredible band, enjoy your journey in discovering them!
right in two and the pot are amazing.
Tool hasn't created a bad song. I feel like this track, The Pot, and Right in Two are great intros to the band.
you lucky sonnova bitch.
The Concert at Miami was something else !!!!!! What a great experience!!!!!!
Fairly new to tool and I just feel this shit in my soul.
Tool released all their music,at the right time!
this master piece song reminds me of 2006 summer when i was young in twenty... i used to listen to this music walking on the street for working out .. this song always gives me the scent of 2006 summer and my twenty age... and makes me feel like still twenty age lol
The comment section of tool songs is the one place on the internet where we truly all can come together and agree on something.
That bass solo is so simple yet so great
This album was the sountrack of my holiday in Germany, just within the last 14 days. Played this album over and over while driving to and around my idylic holiday address. This already was my favorite album ever, but in the last two years I have listened to Fear Inoculum non stop. Now I have renewed my appreciation for this album as well, can never get enough of this music no matter how often it plays. Tool fan 4ever.
Bordering on the edge of wisdom, poetry and pure scripture to the masses.
beautiful
This song will stay for long years as one the most epic songs of all time...
Thanks Tool for this beautiful piece of art. The combination of both parts lyrics/music its just unexplainable. Pure emotion...
Very well executed on vocals and the percussion force is flawless musically ....there is nothing you can criticize about vicarious
This album was a hit
Correction: This album *is* a hit
@@Just_Choking Correction: Was a hit to those during the time of release that no longer feel it still is.
This one hits hard in the headphones.
13 years later this song still rings true
It's hard to believe that it's been 13 years since I first heard this song, man time flies.
time does fly. I remember when my husband was alive and this came out he listened to it over and over while we were out riding in the countryside of W Tennessee. Great times. Miss them a lot and him too. RIP my love

The Moscow attacks...
The relevance to the mind fuck manipulation by the media, Govt, you name it, is exposed artfully, skillfully and, hard.

Ya'll better wake the fuck up.
It's never NOT been true... Sadly.
Hoping to see them here in Kansas City!
Saw them in NY. No vicarious:( but I did get Sober, Pneuma, Right in two. And freaking STINKFIST!!! amazing concert dude
@@vilegod3025 I got Pneuma, Fear Inoculum, Invincible (as the final song), Sober, Pushit, The Grudge, The Pot, Right In Two, and the opening to Enema. I wish I got Stinkfist tho but Pushir was awesome
The quality of the songs is just so good..thank you Tool!
I think it's one of the best Tool songs in terms of music and lyrics.
