Hello Miranda👋🏾🥰!!!! Yess, I love Rosemunde Pilcher” thanks to your Wonderful recommendations, I own two of the books “September” (of course 😂) and “Business As Usual” Miranda the covers of your books make me so happy they’re beautiful, the background of this video is like StoryTime at a bookstore or Library, I love rabbits, I have a puzzle of a rabbit I actually framed it’s titled “ The Kiss” by the artist Robert Bissell.. oh!!!! One more thing Miranda I’m having a great time reading Agatha Christie’s Books, I’m probably one of the few people who is just getting familiar with her Fantastic writing as an adult 🤷🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️... I know.....I just finished “The A.B. C. Murders” and now I’m currently reading “Evil Under the Sun” smh!!! I realized I was reading them out of order because as you know there’s a list on each book in order... so..the adventure will continue with me circling back to “The Mysterious Affair at Styles and “The Murder at the Vicarage” whoa!! What a long comment and I actually had to stop writing because I could have...blah blah blahed , on and on for another ten minutes...My day starts early it’s not even 3am where I live..thank you for starting my day off great🥰 ☀️
Thanks so much, Kiki! I love the fold-out card too; I don't think it comes out in the video, but there are even some ripening blackberries in the picture which makes it even more September feeling for me! So glad you're enjoying Agatha Christie; I think her earlier books are her best (though really I love them all), so you've got some great reads ahead of you!! Hope you have a good day after your very early start! xxx
Your channel is currently my favourite thing ever😊 I never knew I could enjoy one woman speaking about books so much! I now have a reading list as long as my arm! And most of the books you recommend are not even available in India, which is where I’m from🙈 But I do so so enjoy your videos Miranda, thank you!
Your Laura Ashley skirt looks lovely and refreshing! I read The Fortnight in September, last fall, and I keep thinking of it from time to time. Quite surprising for such a simple, slice of life story.
Autumn has always been my favorite season. The weather in New England has been unbearably humid this year, so I'm looking forward all the more to crisp fall days. I adored the All of the Kind books, and over the years had forgotten the name of the series. It's lovely to be reminded of them. I always walk away from your channel wishing I could read a good 4 - 5 books a day. I don't often return to young adult or children's literature, but I've already tracked down The School with a Difference and Beswitched. They sound fabulous. Looking forward to diving into Period Piece. xx
Hi Miranda, I just received my copy of A Poem for Every Autumn Day and have it ready for kick off on Sept. 1. I just finished China Court and am looking forward to beginning Period Piece. Thank you for inspiring me to read novels from authors I had heard about but never investigated any further...it's a lot of fun! Have a great week and see you on Friday.
Thank you so much, Miranda! Such wonderful book recommendations! I'm hoping to read September, Business as Usual, Period Piece and Tales from a Village School. I loved The Fortnight in September, all of the Betsy-Tacy books, All of a Kind Family series and Cat Among the Pigeons. I also have A Poem For Every Autumn Day on my nightstand, too. You're always such a comfort and inspiration when it comes to seasonal reading. Many hugs to you! xoxo :)
Such an inspiring list! I'm finishing Alasdair Grey's Poor Things and I have to say it's a perfect autumnal read; gothic and incredibly fun. Oh, and set in Scotland - which I also find naturally autumnal. The Prime of Jean Brodie is meant to follow. As for poetry, Mary Oliver's nature writing is irresistible in fall.
So many wonderful recs! Beswitched, All of a Kind Family and A Poem for Every Autumn Day are now on my to purchase list. The one book I know for sure I'll be reading is the new Laura Shepherd-Robinson historical fiction mystery, Daughters of Night. It's set in Georgian London and the story takes place in September so very excited for it!
Gaudy Night is my favorite Sayers book, I believe. And of course, Miss Read. I love her books especially in the fall and holiday seasons. Last year in October I read The Picture of Dorian Gray and I think I’ve stumbled on to a new fall/late October tradition. I love books about books also and have added The Reading List and Business as Usual to my tbr. Thank you for the chance in the giveaway too. I entered right away😊. Have a lovely rest of the week, Miranda.💕
The Picture of Dorian Gray is a great choice for spooky season; I remember it was in my Halloween list last year. Rereading it each year is a fun idea! I agree that Miss Read is especially suitable for the autumn and holiday seasons, somehow! Hope you have a lovely rest of the year too xxx
My favorite season was just pre-elevated, thanks to your delightful suggested reads, Miranda! Your videos are always the comfort I’m seeking and I appreciate you (and your mum!) so much.
In September I will be reading "A Fortnight in September" because of your video with lovely Donna last year. And finally Barbara Pym's "Quartet in Autumn" gets a Spanish edition (about time!). It comes out the 6th of September. A cosy reads book club I'm in chose it for our September read, so I will be reading it with some lovely ladies that love Barbara Pym as much as I do. Oh, and one of these ladies sent me "Business as Usual" for my birthday in June this year, I read it a couple of weeks ago and I looooved it. So I'm really glad that you recommend it here, it is definitely an autumn-winter book.
I'm really looking forward to Period Piece! I love Gaudy Night and Anne of Windy Willows. So many of the other books sound delightful! I have only read through the Betsy-Tacy series once when I was 27 and loved them. You're right that September would be a great time to re-visit them. I love that your mom made you muffins for the first day of school! I am planning to read Lady Audley's Secret for the first time in September. I'm also joining a three-month readalong of The Brontes by Juliet Barker that starts in September.
Hi Miranda, September always seems such a busy month for books to be read and your list is full of possibilities, as always. I am definitely going to find a copy of John Moore's September Moon as my late Mum regularly went hop picking and it was one of her most treasured memories, I have some really old photos of her and her Mum in Kent hop picking. Jane Graham is an author I always love reading and I hope you enjoy A Long Way from Verona (one I haven't yet read). Thank you for such an interesting list and wishing you happy reading, Teresa 📚
Hi Miranda, lovely selection! My wish-list is growing ever longer... A favourite book of mine is Corrag by Susan Fletcher, such a beautifully written and atmospheric book set in Scotland. Would be great to read in September I think x
Hello Miranda, another wonderful list of books to dive into. Currently, I am reading Dear Mrs. Bird and enjoying it quite a bit. I also just received The World of Thrush Green which does look to be a good bedtime read. Today I was intrigued by Period Piece and The Fortnight in September which I will be looking for at my local library. I live in Los Angeles County so the library system is quite extensive. Thank you. 🍂🌻🍁
My only trip to Scotland was in September, and it was the perfect time! But, then I would visit Scotland anytime...I appreciate your videos and your reading suggestions. I'm not sure how many more books I can add to my TBR list, but it keeps growing in part thanks to you!
Love your reading list - I think I'll pick up a copy of Dorothy L. Sayers's Gaudy night :-) My September tradition is reading Lord of the rings , as Bilbo's birthday party in chapter one also is set in in September
I love youre channel so v much in so many ways. what a beautiful relationships with youre mum.i remember similar times through the years reading with my own mum and dad both sadly passed in recent years.i get such comfort magic inspiration and knowledge from youre channel.thank you and many blessing to you and you're loved ones.keep sharing the magic.with gratitude ❤katie in dublin.43 years
Thank you for all these recommendations Miranda, so many books on my radar come from you these days! Beswitched gives me Freaky Friday vibes! Miss Read is always great for autumn/winter but I was so disappointed with The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie which I really wanted to love but couldn't. Maybe another of Muriel Spark's books will suit me better. Also, lovely to see you're enjoying your lavender :)
Another wonderful video, Miranda! Love your September book choices! Just got in the mail today a vintage 1953 hardback of Period Piece with such charming illustrations. I plan to listen to A Fortnight in September next month on audiobook. I've loved listening to the Lord Peter Wimsey series. Miss Read's books are scrumptious and I devoured the Anne of Green Gables books over and over in my teens and 20s! So glad to see the Tenement Museum is open again; my cousin and our daughters very much enjoyed going there and I'd like to revisit. Very humbling experience. 📚🧡
How lovely to get a vintage edition- that sounds beautiful! I love her illustrations too. I was so happy to see that about Tenement museum, after reading of its closure last year! It would have been a great loss if it had remained permanently closed xxx
Lovely selection of books! I am particularly intrigued by the Betsy Tacy books. Must start looking out for them. I ordered Period Piece yesterday for next month's CBC, looking forward to reading it. X
I have never seen anyone talk about the All of a Kind family series. I read them as a child in the 70’s from the library over and over and then couldn’t find them for years here in Australia so when I went to the US in 2008 I purchased them there and often re read them.
Thank you for the video, again some great tips for books. I really like the cover of Heaven to Betsy and I wanted to start with poetry for ages so A Poem for every autumn day seems great too. 😊 Also looove the autumn vibes coming from your room, so lovely 😊
Oh I grew up with the All of a Kind Family series, in fact I still own the books I had from childhood (late 1960s or early 1970s) - I think I must dig them out and revisit. I love your unique channel and all the books you’ve recommended - I want them all!
It was such a pleasure to see what books you had for September, not that I am a seasonal reader. Some old favourites like ' Gaudy Night ' and ' Cat Among the Pigeons '. I'm now interested in reading ' A long way from Verona ' as I have enjoyed other books by Jane Gardam.
Hi Miranda, it's so lovely you've completed a whole year of these! I've taken lots of inspiration for my September reading this year from this video. It might be nice to have the 12 videos together in a playlist for easy access so they don't get buried as you create more content - just an idea 😊 I plan to refer back to them throughout the year! I'm thrilled to have found a vintage copy of September Moon online which I've just ordered. My Grandpa always went hop-picking as a child and spoke of those times warmly and often. I've never read about it though - can't wait! Thanks as always for introducing us to so many delightful reads!
Thanks so much for your generous support - it's very appreciated, Rae! September Moon is a fab read. How great to that your grandfather shared his childhood experience of hop-picking to enrich reading it further! I'll collect the videos at some point into a playlist so they're more easily found for those who are interested,
Thrilled you picked a book I just started reading. I’ve been working my way through LM Montgomery books this year and have just started Anne of Windy Willows. Lovely update from you as always. Sat with my pen poised to make lists of future reads x
Hi Miranda, I've actually read 2 on your list, Gaudy Night and The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. I might try Rosamund Pilcher. I'm reading a summer book The Cornish Cream Tea Bus by Cressida McLaughlin , as a last nod to August . I enjoy your vlogs.
Thank you so much for your recommendations. I just discovered your site! I look forward to another Rosamond Pilcher tale!!! My family and I had the opportunity to visit the tenement museum--just before Covid--went to the Irish tenement and pictured my grandparents there!!!
I really love all your videos, they are so beautiful. I am also excited about the book club, and I am glad you included non-fiction books on your list. thanks
Thank you for telling us about The Tenement Museum, my Dad grew up in the Tenements in 30's and 40's till he was a teen and lied to get into the Air Force. I think I will find this very interesting.
So many lovely recommendations. I'm looking forward to reading Period Piece which I've just ordered. Also looking forward to Business as Usual which I've had for a while but am yet to get to.
Wonderful picks--already requested some of these from my public library. Also my library has a new book (2021) which I have put on Hold: "From Sarah to Sydney: the Woman Behind All-of-a-Kind Family," by June Cummins. This is a biography of Sydney Taylor, and sounds very interesting. I've also seen recommended "97 Orchard: An Edible History of Five Immigrant Families in One New York Tenement," by Jane Ziegelman, which explores the culinary life throughout history in the Lower East Side. I think 97 Orchard is the address of the Tenement Museum.
That biography is on my birthday wish-list! It sounds fascinating! Yes, I'm sure that is the address of the Tenement Museum - sounds an interesting book too! xxx
@@MirandaMills Well, I'm Number 6 in line at the library for the Taylor biography and number 27 in line for "The Reading List", which sounded so interesting from your video. Plus love that you wore your new skirt!
Hi Miranda, discovered your Comfort Book Club a few months ago. Love the choices, it’s opening my eyes to books from an era I didn’t know much about. Having lost both my parents I love the dynamic you have with your mum. It reminds me of the books my mum and I shared, our relationship and the friendship that develops between grown up daughters and their mums. Having viewed this vlog to get some ideas for next reads you mention the Tenement Museum. For our 40th & 60th birthdays my mum and I went to New York, the Tenement Museum was so very interesting and a great companion visit to Ellis Island. So thanks for the recommendations and the lovely remembrances. Best wishes to both you and Donna.
Thank you for those kind words. I'm so sorry to hear you've lost both your parents, but what a lovely and special birthday memory to have of time spent with your Mum.
I love Anne of Windy Willows and must read it again soon - I usually read all the Anne books in order but it won't take long to get to it. You've recommended so many titles that I like the sound of including The Fortnight in September, Heaven to Betsy (it's available at Amazon and Abe Books), Business as Usual and Beswitched. I already have The Reading List on my 'to buy' list. Also I like many of Jane Shaw's titles - I just bought the GGBP reprint of House of the Glimmering Light but haven't yet bought Crooked Sixpence.
I’m so glad RUclips introduced me to your channel! You are charming and well spoken and every book you’ve spoken about today seems just my thing! I will be following you and “reading with you”.
Those books sound absolutely fantastic. I also would like to highly recommend a book that I truly think you will love, it's titled Little by Edward Carey, absolutely mesmerising 😊
I love when you do videos on seasonal reading! I read Winter Solstice last December on your recommendation and liked it so much I may have to pick up September now. If you have never read The Orchard: A Memoir by Adele Crockett Robertson I would recommend it. It is about a young woman's battle to save her farm in the middle of the Great Depression. I read it quite a while ago and really enjoyed it. Also, if you have not read Ex Libris by Anne Fadiman, that is another great book about books.
Hello Miranda. I thought of you this morning. I saw an ad from Victoria Magazine highlighting their new book “Living with Blue and White”. Victoria always publishes lovely books. Perhaps you may take a look. Enjoy your day 🍁
Miranda, oh. I think immediately of Miranda in the tempest... "O, brave New world, with so many wonderful things in it". Act 2, scene 2. Miranda, The Tempest. And, funnily enough you're video just popped up from nowhere as I sat at my writing desk. Greetings from a playwright and actor, Noel 🌹 ps, across the road from me, here in london, is the former London home of Thomas Hardy. Not a bad novelist.
Thank you, Miranda! Enjoyed your selections and just ordered "Period Piece" and "Business as Usual" from Blackwells. Couldn't find them here in NY, but Blackwells is a find (thank you for the link!). Now, I can look forward to a package from the UK. Have fun apple picking.....
Bewitched sounds interesting. I just reserved it from the library. If you have not read any of the Laetitia Rodd mysteries by Kate Saunders you should check them out (not necessarily for September, but at some point😊). I think you might enjoy them.
Super recommendations Miranda. My Grandma introduced me to Miss Read when I was around 11 along with a book called Tapioca for Tea by Sarah Shears and Tuppence to Cross The Mersey by Helen Forrester, I went on to read many of her books. Have you heard of or read any of these ? X
Re Books about books but this time non fiction, Have you read The Bookshop Book by Jen Campbell? I'm re-reading it at the moment and really love it, so fascinating to read about all the different bookshops in many parts of the world.
It is cold and raining and windy where I am in Australia and I can feel an Anne reading marathon coming on for me.
autumn is a fun time to read books even when the leaves fall.
Oh, no! I'm not sure my bank account can handle it! (Just kidding--keep your seasonal reading lists coming! I adore them!)
Haha thank you! xxx
September is there !!!! What a fabulous read. What a fantastic author was Rosamunde Pilcher ❤️
She was indeed! ❤️

Thank you Diane! That’s a lovely anthology! 🍂

Thank you! Enjoy your reading! Xx
Wonderful suggestions!
I am also excited about the book club, and I am glad you included non-fiction books on your list. thanks
Thank you very much! ❤️
Have just discovered you - what a treat! Planning on looking for some of books you've listed here. Thanks for inspiring us!
Thank you Angie! Those are both such fun reads; I hope you enjoy them too! xxx
I'm looking forward to reading Thrush Green by Miss Read.
Thank you so much! That is very kind 😊 xxx
Those books sound absolutely fantastic. I also would like to highly recommend a book that I truly think you will love, it's titled Little by Edward Carey, absolutely mesmerising 😊
Super! Thank you!
Thanks so much for your recommendations! They sound super. Hope you enjoy September if you read it in the coming month xxx
Hello Miranda. I thought of you this morning. I saw an ad from Victoria Magazine highlighting their new book “Living with Blue and White”. Victoria always publishes lovely books. Perhaps you may take a look. Enjoy your day 🍁
I love Victoria Magazine! 😊
Those are both such lovely choices! 😊📚❤️
i hope they have new books on the shelf this fall.
Bewitched sounds interesting. I just reserved it from the library. If you have not read any of the Laetitia Rodd mysteries by Kate Saunders you should check them out (not necessarily for September, but at some point😊). I think you might enjoy them.
Oh yes, I do have those and am a fan too!
Thank you very much! I haven’t read those, but apparently my mum has 😊📚
I read all the Helen Forrester books as a teenager. They were quite an eye opener. Was always reading my mum's books 🙂
Miranda do you read historical fiction? If you do what are some of your favorite authors/books that you’ve read? Just love all your videos!
Re Books about books but this time non fiction, Have you read The Bookshop Book by Jen Campbell? I'm re-reading it at the moment and really love it, so fascinating to read about all the different bookshops in many parts of the world.
