Why does everyone keeps saying that Jolie doesnt look like Callas? It's a movie, a dramatized movie. People cant possibly expect when Hollywood makes a biopic movie, they will make a clone, instead. Honestly.
Also, there are many iconic XXth century sopranos. The fans should at least be grateful that it is Maria Callas, one of the many opera singers, that Hollywood decided to make a movie about, through Jolie's influence, dedication and talent. For everyone will know of her existence, that a one great opera singer once graced not only the royal theatres, but the world itself. Picture that.
And before people say crap about Angelina Jolie... she is an actress. Like all the actors and actresses in the world, she is not a moving sculpture, a robot, or a creature that was designed to shapeshift just to look like the celebrity she is portraying. DoucheBs.
@@fierydragonfly4300 Should we be grateful to Jolie? Is that what you mean? In comparision Callas was far better of a singer than Jolie is of an actress. By lightyears. They are not even in the same league.
Why is Jolie as Norma singing all by herself on stage? At that point in the opera, the stage is full of people. Poetic license? The film... Angelina Jolie comes across as depressed, melancholy, and weak. There is no spirit, no life, no joy in the great singer she is portraying. It almost felt as if we were just following Jolie around Paris for the day while she played sad for the cameras. I really wanted to love the film. Unfortunately, it was dreary and boring, with the gowns, sets and locations doing more work than anyone else. Maria Callas had a fascinating and well documented life so there is much raw material to work with. Alas, the charmless and unlovable Callas portrayed in this movie is less about a complex woman, and more about intense navel gazing. The movie was filled with speculation and inaccuracies, especially the circumstances of her death at age 54 in 1977. Maria did not die under the circumstances depicted in the film. Maria’s personality was not portrayed well or accurately. The music soars when we hear the voice of Callas, and it plummets when Jolie adds her own singing. The sets and filming locations are sublime. In the end, the fate of Callas' servants is more interesting than the main character. One of the worst films I have seen in my life. A waste of celluloid, terrible direction, camera work was like watching a turtle race in slow motion. Callas was the greatest opera singer of the XX century. She remains the standard to which all operatic singers aspire to be.
Bella, i remember that the movie starts from Callas last days, remembering the golden days and the peak of career. But I agree in the recordings when she was young, Angelina could showed her smiling and having fun, I looks like she's trying to show "look, i'm so profound, always thinking something, but never saying it"
Joly wears disdainful exppression on her face, whis is absolutely uncharastic for Ia Divina. One should never dare to try de picting such a great artist, her personality. !!!😮😮😮
"Casta Diva" (0:32-2:22) is from may 15th 1959, not 1962. "O mio babbino caro" (2:30-3:19) is from october 18th 1965, not june 1963. As for the rest I can't see much of Maria Callas in what Jolie is trying.
you are not right with casta diva! its five month earlier from paris debut recital from december 19th 1958!-and in hamburg 1959 she had no choir...please compare the videos who both exists...nice greetings...
Really a bad embarrassing film putting to shame the great artist Maria Callas. It's like a caricature of a stupid delusional diva which is well known Callas was not. Not also in her last sad days. Enough to watch one real interview or concert with her to realize immediately how intelligent she was and what an amazing singer and artist.
Why is Angelina Julie not embarrassed playing this role. Can she hear herself or she is tone deaf. I watched only 5 minutes of the movie. Total trash!!
It's all nice but Angelina doesn't look Greek, she has no resemblance to Callas. I see Angelina playing a diva. At least Ana De Armas merged with MM in Blonde, and I could see Marilyn in her portrayal. Angelina's face is too distinctive for biopics, sorry...
The last scene is poignant, but I am deeply upset at the movie. Angelina can be good and sing all she wants, but the film concenrates on Maria´s demons and poor mental and physical health rather than explain to us WHY Maria was so important for us artists and singers. An absolute missed opportunity from people that are more interested in exploting Maria's contributions for Oscar buzz 🤢
There is nothing attractive or dramatic about depression oy crying. Whether an ordinary or an extraordinary lady depicted. Spencer was awful too. But edith piaff biopic was better.
Now with this comparison in singing scenes you can really tell when they used Maria's voice and when it's Angelina

Some people are better left to the memory and imagination.
or just chose another actress hahaha

You're one of the few.. Pls appreciate Angelna for all the guts to do this biopic ..

Exactly
Kate blanchet hubiera sido genial en ese papel, se parece en físico a maria callas
Cate recorda mucho más Callas expressiones y rostro
No she doesn't

Maria is american with greek heritage, there's nothing about italian
but yeah, nothing like Maria Callas

This is what Callas sounded like shortly before her death - ruclips.net/video/yvUCfXJcR9Q/видео.htmlsi=89WrOeE_eA14Hx1u

It's so trying to be Callas and no way she is able to make her live again, bad acting for sure!!!!!!!!!!!
Jolie is a terrible actress and doesn´t at all resemble Callas
