Wasp Nest Inside of Furnace Vent Screen

A PVS-IS2 vent screen at pvcventscreens.com/product/pv... was used to replace a recently installed furnace vent screen that already had a wasp nest being built inside of it. The PVS-IS2 vent screen is designed to protect furnace intake and exhaust vents during spring, summer and fall. During winter, when insects are not active, the PVS-RS2 vent screen should be used inside 2" PVC furnace vent terminations having an inside diameter of 2-3/8". When used as intended, the PVS-IS2 and PVS-RS2 vent screens provide complete all-season vent protection to protect vents from bees, wasps, birds, rodents and debris. The PVS-IS3 and PVS-RS3 vent screens are designed to fit inside of 3-1/2" vent terminations, which are also commonly used for residential high efficiency furnaces. For optimal performance, a licensed HVAC technician should inspect your furnace and ventilation system annually.

The year before I used a finer 1/4" mesh galvanized steel in spite of warnings here that condensation could freeze forming a blockage and shut down the furnace. Well it didn't shut down, but the exhaust fumes will rot out galvanized steel in one season, mine was so rusted it crumbled upon removal.

Animals often shove these types of screens (discs) right into the vent pipe; sometimes so deep they end up in the furnace along with the animal. Regardless, whether or not a furnace operates with a poor airflow rated screen is a low bar. The degradation in performance from many poor flowing screens will result in an unnecessary load (wear and tear) on the draft inducer motor and reduced energy efficiency in sub-freezing temperatures. That's why we use 90% airflow rated screens during winter.

Walk into a supply house and they will tell you they don't carry termination fittings. You should sell to the supply houses

We do sell direct to supply houses, OEMs, HVAC and plumbing companies. However, there are many supply houses we don't sell to and normally when their customers ask for our products that gets the ball rolling. If your local supply house does not carry our products, ask them to look into stocking them. If they are not receptive to your stock request, let us know and we will put you in touch with a national distributor that does carry our products.
