Every hole is a par 3. You must decide where you want to tee off from and how far. The tee shot is nothing more than moving the tee box to your desired position to start your desired par 3. Par 5's you move the tee box twice. To do this you must play the hole backwards from green to tee. Your desired par 3 determines what club you take from the real tee. If that's the hybrid so be it.
@@GHOSTOFEIGHT My 3 wood goes about 225 so any hole of 340 or less is begging me to put loft in my hand over the driver and have a full wedge or 9 iron. It just makes sense.
I hit driver maybe 2x a round. If I have 60 yards between hazards, thick trees sand traps I go for it, 50 yards wide( fairway and rough) 3W. If it’s less I go with 5w, 4hy, driving iron or less. I have a vector diagram that dictates the club a will use.
Matt. Just broke 90 for the first time on my journey. Started watching your videos about 4 months ago. My only long clubs I used were a 5 Wood off the tee and a 5 hybrid and I beat my friends who clowned me while they whipped their drivers all over the place. You truly are the High Handicap Whisperer. I forward all your Classroom lessons to my friends now playa
I agree, left my driver in the bag, using either 3wood, 3 hybrid, 3 iron, 5 iron off tee with much better results. Playing bogie golf for me is much more enjoyable.
This is my dad lol.. I haven't quite broken 90 yet but shot a 95 last weekend. Drives my dad crazy when I don't pull my driver out but I beat him. He was so driven crazy.. on one hole, he pulled my driver out and hit it "well, someone should use it since you paid like $500 for it" and he topped it like 50 yards in front of us 😂😂 My tee club has been a 4 hybrid. I hit it ~185-200 depending on wind/rollout etc and it's basically always in the fairway.
This is the one for me, I'm finally an official GHIN 10 (6000 yds ish) and you've been there for the entire way. I'm 62 and it's been a 2 year journey to get from 17 to 10 , thanks for all the tips and real golf advice.
Over the last year I’ve rewatched many of your video’s to help me with my mental game. My traveling handicap is a 10, while my home course is a 8. Your tips are very simple. Just know you.
I just discovered your channel and as a rusty former 11.0 who's been laid up, you inspired me to restore my game and skills over the next many months. Subscribed today, thanks 👍.
I never thought it would be possible for you to be more relaxed than you normally are. Your approach and coaching is resonating with my current game. A BiG Canadian thank you my friend! Keep laying these wisdom eggs they are fuelling my steady progress. Cheers
As much as I want to deny you, YOU are amazing! I, like you, now live in a place that people only dream of living. In my case it is Costa Rica. I was a 7 handicap over 20 years ago and because of listening to you, my last round of nine holes was EVEN PAR! I haven't been able to play even par in 20 years or more! THANK YOU! It is literally like listening to you as if I'm on the version of sleep., and yet you've changed my gplf game COMPLETELY. Keep doing what you're doing. if you have the initial talent, your mental lessons are exactly what is needed to play scratch golf! It is the issue of what is between your ears that is keeping you from becoming the golf you have always dreamt of! playing. I've never been happier in my life, retired and playing even par? Are you kiddin' me? THANK YOU!
18 months ago, my index was more than. Broke 90 first time in September 2022 and thanks to the way of playa, my index is now 14.0. I'm on my way to reduce it to 12.x at the end of this year. Love your videos, Matt.
I started playing the way of the playa in August 2023....My index was 19 in Nov 2023 - its 15.8 now, my goal is 12 by the end of the year. I've finished in the top 5 in 4 of my last 5 tournaments. Thank you Matt.
Very good tips. Especially the chipping game part. I’m a 7 and after I got really confident getting myself in better scoring positions with chipping. Now I’m working on doing the exact same inside 150. Best course management tip I ever got is “make the game small”.
I don’t really write comments on videos, but I had no choice. I’m a 15 handicapper heading toward 20. Poor decisions on the course is my real issue. Watching this video added a ton a ton of common sense and fun to the game that is forgotten when dealing with the pressure to perform. Watching this put me at ease and made me enjoy golf again. I’m on the course tomorrow and look forward to think about more course management and have fun with the game.
Hi Matt, I play off 18.4 which gives me 21 shots today was 90% of handicap so 19 shots, after watching this I played today and played sensible shots from the tee, used your advice throughout, I grossed 83, thank you for enlightening me, very much appreciated. 👏👏👏
Matt, great videos and advice. The more I watch your videos the more I appreciate them. I am a 2-6 index depending on the time of year. Good stuff for any golfer to remember. Thanks!
For me,I've reached 8 now in playing for 2 years. It's not about the results for me but the journey so I keep trying to get birdies when i can. If i was playing 1 purely for result round i'd play different. But it's not what gives me the most joy on the course!
Dude, maybe its because I am also South African that you are just so classic. But I have been stuck at 13 for ages now and I am gonna put the above into practice. Thanks man, you the best
Great advice! I started this methodology (really leaving my driver in the bag) last year May and went from a 12.2 to a 9.1 index. I was losing so many strokes just from the tee box.
I just want to say thank you so much for all the great videos and golf advice you provide us with!! My previous low was 84 (shot it twice) and then I watched this video and shot a +4 76!!
Your course management/game management videos are fantastic. I'm about a 15 handicap right now, but thats not following a system. Going to give this 10 handicap system a shot specifically with target par on certain holes. With my game it should be very doable. Let's go see how this looks through 10 rounds. Also your one liners are fantastic 😄
Found your Chanel about 5 nights ago. Watched some content. Got very interested in what you preach with the process. I'm a 15 HC but want to get to 10 within next 6-12 months. I watched the 10 laws of HC and 15 laws of 15 HC and took some from both. Had my local Pro Am coming up and was itching to hit the course. I got 5 iron off the tee off holes I'd always be spraying driver. Hit more fairways then ever. Avoided danger as best I can. Long story short, I won the pro am in my division and 2 under my HC. Excited to follow the way of the playa moving forward and practice putting and smart chipping (rule of 12) and down to 10 I hope to go. Thanks for your content. I even looked for some feathers today to plant some birdies but couldn't find any
Hi Matt. Great video, helpful also for me even if I’m not in danger of achieving a 10 handicap in the near future😂. Honestly, I really miss not only your bucket hat, but also these little screen in screen graphics, showing the ball flight and the used club etc. This information made your videos even more outstanding. I’m afraid, it’s a lot of work in addition, but it’s worth every minute.
This is great advice. Boring golf is good golf. I very seldom go for heroic shots and I know my strengths and weaknesses. If I really want to play my best I drink 4 beers and spend 30 minutes on the practice green before the round. During play I drink a beer about every 20 minutes. It works well for me.
That's hilarious, I played the "Old Head" course here in Kinsale Ireland and was having a nightmare on the front nine so I drank 5 beers and parred 5 holes in a row. Might see if your approach works next time I play a competition 😅
I must say, your keen fashion is as sharp as a butter knife at a juggling convention! The half-tucked shirt, you see, it's a bold fashion statement, a rebellion against the tyranny of fully-tucked norms. It's the kind of style that says, "I'm half in, half out, just like my life choices!"
I saw one video where you talk about not make hero shots… put it in practice and for great results… had 7 para in a round, getting to the green with 3 or 4 shots on par fives and making a single putt…. Thanks.
10 weeks of playing golf - some great insights from this video!!! I broke 90 for the first time this week and I think really focusing on 2 putts is key to lowering the scores. Right now averaging around 2 putts per hole, but my biggest question is knowing how to minimize really bad holes - i tend to have a whole bunch of bogeys and pars now, mixed in with triples and quadruple bogeys - rarely getting double bogeys now
Like always. Great! My kid ask me what a sidekick is and why did i always watch your videos while cooking dinner. Told him that you where a kind of pal that cheers to enjoy golf amd ourselfs. Thanks playa. Hoping to get to single figure handicap soon
Im an 11ish Handicap (11 rounds this year. 10 all between 80-86 and one 89). I actually play very much like this but never actually thought it out intentionally. I think I can easily be a single digit since I still average 34 putts a round. I like this thought process!
This is brilliant. It just keeps getting better. I have been labeled a "CHEATER", buy a few imbeciles because I have adopted this method. They would rather hit 2-3 300 yard drives in the woods, than see someone hit a 5 iron 220 straight down the fairway off the tee. I have been playing since I was 12, so 50+ years. The vast majority of golfers never improve, and in fact, suck. They would rather lose 6-12 balls each round or more, than adopt this method. Its all ego. I love when they say things like, "If I only had not hit that tree branch", or "that would have been a great drive, if". Idiots. All of them. I played with a group recently who played exactly this way. They were surgical on every hole. The ball always stayed in play, and they move around the course with efficiency. It was a thing of beauty. WaddaLife!
I started using "titties to the target" in league this last season and everyone thought I was weird. Lowered my handicap by three points just by getting the ball closer to the hole on every chip shot. Looks who's the word one now! You rock, Matt! Waddateacher!!
I used your system, longest confident club off tee. Played a good round and shot 80 (8 over) with no lost balls and no big numbers. Left my ego and driver in the bag and enjoyed the rounds. Still lost $2 because my partner made every put (gave him three strokes per side).
I’m in the same boat. I believe the difference between a 10 and a 5 is not as many mental errors and knowing and being able to play different lies. Most of my lost shots are not committing to a shot, being worried bout the outcome of my shot (and coming out of my swing to see where ball is going), and not being able to play certain lies well or forgetting about what the lie, wind, and elevation will do (WELD).
we are 10 handicappers because we left our egos at the door. We put a driver in the bag and hit irons at the range. we can hit a straight ball 150-220 yards and solid short game. We are the weekend warriors
From my experience during every round, you will have a stretch of holes where it is just not happening as you would like, could be at start, midway or at the end where your dreams are ruined. Control the damage on these bad holes, these are crucial holes in your round, remember your not going to par every hole because your not a pro! Other advice would be work on your putting, half your allocated shots are for putting, smashing it 300 yatds is not an advantage when putting on the green
I'm currently trying to get my friend who struggles to break 100 to stop playing par golf and start playing bogey golf. He hit a 99 the other day, but I still don't think he fully gets what I mean when I say bogey golf
Every hole is a par 3. You must decide where you want to tee off from and how far. The tee shot is nothing more than moving the tee box to your desired position to start your desired par 3. Yes indeed, for everything else, there's Rick Sjhiels and Good Good
I am playing off 10 and if I could putt I would be dangerous. 3 putting is my biggest problem.
