18.6 right now and aiming to be a 5 by end of next year (Texas season can be 11months).
Made me realize my lowest rounds (88&89) I never hit woods off the tee unless I was at a par 5. Just have to play smart lol

Interesting take. I’m stuck at a 4 handicap trying to get to scratch, so may have to try this on weekdays after work. Although I’m not so sure how helpful games would be for me because my ball striking is the primary factor keeping me from scratch.

I’d say the best thing to do is to get on the course as much as possible. The range is pointless most of the time. Only use the range to practice distance control with wedges up to 9i.
Oh, and practice chipping and putting every day until your hands bleed.
    Also,

Disagree. Range is where you perfect your swing. You can do games if u want on the range, too.

@@jayboek2854 If there’s no pressure on it, it’s completely pointless. Plus it doesn’t help you actually play the game. I’ve seen guys who hit the ball literally like tour players on the range, then can’t go out and break 80.

I live in the south east part of San Diego CA. Maybe 10 miles from the Mexico border, as the crow flys. There are three 18 hole courses within 2 or 3 miles from my home. And a lot more not far away. The problem is, they are all so busy and just backed up. It takes 6 hours to get in 18 holes. No chance to practice while on the course. None of any of the many courses near me have practice facilities. Just driving ranges and crappy range balls.

I wish I could play that much, but having kids limits this to 1-2 rounds per week where one of them (or both) will only be 9 holes.

Hi mate, great vid. When I was a teenager I spent most of my time at my local golf course, played with cheap clubs, never had a lesson and got to a single digit handicap. I stopped playing over night and after a 20+ year break, I returned end of last summer and got a new 22 handicap. I started practicing a lot on the range and regularly played a few rounds per week and got down to 20 hcp. I’ve since had golf lessons(about 8 in 10 months), the pro changed my grip and parts of my swing. Now I’m playing terrible with no confidence or conviction. I’ve been struggling in particular to hit a ball off the tee, whereas it would have been my strength in the past. I use to have a strong grip and could rip the driver 280yard with a fairly reliable fade, now I’m struggling to get the driver 200 yards and I keep slicing it. Id be more than happy if I could drive it 220 straight but really struggling atm. To help compensate I hit my irons a lot off the tee (which gets tiring, doesn’t always work & feel like I’m always scrambling ) & I’m working a lot on my pitching, chipping, putting. I was so obsessed about getting my hcp down that I’ve bought a SkyTrak at Xmas and practice with a net. Somethings that winds me up as I don’t see the yardage or shot shape I use to have so end up turning off the SkyTrak half way through a session. Just wondering have you any thoughts as I’ve been strongly considering giving up the game. Feel if I just forget the range, SkyTrak and the lessons for now and just practice more on the course I might start to enjoy the game more.

@@jimmyn1357 thanks for the comment! If I was in your shoes. I would DROP the technical side of the game and just go and play golf to get the love and enjoyment back again. Get out on the course try different shots, get back to scoring again and just getting the ball in the hole (sounds simple but it’s effective). If you hit it in trees, chip it out and try to get up and down. Let me know how you get on! Sam

Here in the States, public golf averages around $22/9 holes X 3x/week X 4 weeks/mo. = $264/mo. That's unfortunately not realistic for a lot of people, and that's just three times a week. For 18 you're looking at around $35, minimum. Not trying to be a buzz kill, but that's the reality check here in the States, at least. YMMV.

If you want to spend $250-300/month on golf and legit have enough time to play 3-4 rounds per week, try looking for a part time job. You can make enough to net the $250 by working 5-6 hours per week somewhere (check to see if your local course is hiring and you may get free/cheaper golf) or being willing to work some overtime at your regular job if they'll let you. This might only apply to the US folks.
