  • I review the 2019 Toyota Highlander in its SE AWD trim and discover that although it's showing its age and ready for a redo, it is still is a solid choice for those that want a reliable 3-row SUV and don't need the newest features. I give an in depth look at the exterior, interior, and how it drives. I also compare it to other competitors like the 2019 Honda Pilot and others. What do you think of the Highlander? Thanks to Toyota for providing this vehicle for review!

    I think the reason highlander sells so well is it's a nice size(not too big or small) and extremely comfortable to drive. Oh and rock solid reliability dosen't hurt.

    This was an excellent and candid review of the very reliable Highlander ..... Thanks for being so straight forward about the good and compromised elements of this vehicle...... I will be interested in your review of the updated Highlander when it has changed ..... I would also be interested in a review of the new Cadillac XT6 when it will be available in late spring.

    you don't buy a vehicle that's meant for hauling kids around in and expect it to act like a sports car, if that's your thing then buy something else. I don't see why its worth complaining about. I think Toyota is smart to keep this and the 4runner similar to how they were in the past, ultimately there are people like me that are appreciative of a design that works. there are a lot of new vehicles that just make me want to get an old buick instead with the 3.8l v6 and hold onto it until I'm dead. they just don't make them like they used to.

    Worst review I've seen... petty grievances and you never name those newer and flashier competitors that are also lower priced, do you mean Hyundai? Also, which ones don't have any throttle lag and have more responsive transmissions?

    Greetings Matt - Good review and I appreciate your candor. Here's hoping Toyota listens to their customers and your input for the 2020 version. I saw the reveal and read some initial reviews which seem favorable. I'll be looking forward to your review in December when the 2020 hits showrooms. Also, please review the hybrid subsequently coming out that following February.

      To get a good mpg, you have to be close to sea level. Even at 3000ft elevation hurts mpg. In cold climates, mpg will suffer as well. 20mpg is still not bad for a 4400lb 3rd row mid-size suv. I was getting 10-11mpg hwy in my 2011 Suburban 1500 LT.

      that's not what the highlander is meant to be, its meant to be a family vehicle. you're clearly the type that thinks any suv is good for offroad. it also wouldn't be the best marketing choice when they have trd vehicles like the trucks and the 4 runner. this isn't like the denali line in gmc, not every Toyota is gonna get a trd model.

    Pretty much nailed my thoughts. Hate the new trans and programming Toyota has on this, Camry, Rav, Tacoma. Only the old 6-speed auto Tundra and Sequoias still drive well with no lag or computer issues.

    • @synth505
      @synth505 5 лет назад

      Still better than a CVT. Kudos to Toyota for sticking with a tried and true AT.

    • @wheatona
      @wheatona 5 лет назад

      synth505 an auto trans is fine. The programming is horrid. As it is with nearly all of their new 8-speed autos unfortunately. Actually, same for even our 6-speed auto 2017 Tacoma. They just blew it trying to eek out .5 more mpg and having the computer force upshifts far too soon in every gear. Sucks the life out of the 3.5 that requires high revs for any amount of power.

    • @brodiwheeler7583
      @brodiwheeler7583 5 лет назад +2

      Andy Wheaton If you’re in The Taco, use the ECT PWR Mode and that changes the Transmission tuning and throttle response. Or you can use the S-Mode and manually hold the gear you want. In the Highlander, you can put it in PWR Mode and also improve the Throttle response and shift patterns. If that’s still not enough for you try installing a Pedal Commander, that really changes the throttle by wire programming with adjustable settings. In the regular modes fuel economy is the priority in its tuning/programming.

    • @wheatona
      @wheatona 5 лет назад

      Brodi Wheeler yes i know. But then it drives equally as bad. Hangs too high in gears, slows down abruptly, etc. Toyota needs an “in between” program. They’ve changed all their programming to eek out .5 more MPG and as a result made their vehicles drive poorly. It’s not just Toyota. Others have done the same thing.

    • @brodiwheeler7583
      @brodiwheeler7583 5 лет назад
