Review: 2019 Toyota Highlander SE AWD - Ready for a Redo
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 30 июл 2024
- I review the 2019 Toyota Highlander in its SE AWD trim and discover that although it's showing its age and ready for a redo, it is still is a solid choice for those that want a reliable 3-row SUV and don't need the newest features. I give an in depth look at the exterior, interior, and how it drives. I also compare it to other competitors like the 2019 Honda Pilot and others. What do you think of the Highlander? Thanks to Toyota for providing this vehicle for review!

I think the reason highlander sells so well is it's a nice size(not too big or small) and extremely comfortable to drive. Oh and rock solid reliability dosen't hurt.
Love mine, got a deal of 34k for a brand new 2019 highlander XLE.
Every trip I get almost 30mpg going 55-80mph with a V6 engine !!
$34k plus freight and taxes and tags?
@@keithkwiatek291 I got mine at a credit union auction for 20k
Dang. You guys got a deal! I got my 2019 Limited platinum for $41k otd with only 8 miles.
This was an excellent and candid review of the very reliable Highlander ..... Thanks for being so straight forward about the good and compromised elements of this vehicle...... I will be interested in your review of the updated Highlander when it has changed ..... I would also be interested in a review of the new Cadillac XT6 when it will be available in late spring.
I want him to review a Honda Odyssey too
you don't buy a vehicle that's meant for hauling kids around in and expect it to act like a sports car, if that's your thing then buy something else. I don't see why its worth complaining about. I think Toyota is smart to keep this and the 4runner similar to how they were in the past, ultimately there are people like me that are appreciative of a design that works. there are a lot of new vehicles that just make me want to get an old buick instead with the 3.8l v6 and hold onto it until I'm dead. they just don't make them like they used to.
exactly what I was thinking... who drives fast in a damn SUV?
I agree with the issue of huge cupholders. On our trip to Florida I had to stick some cloth in the cupholder because a small McDonald’s drink would just slide around without it.
I'm in love with this automobile and will be getting one any day now!!!
Same im goin to see the limited platnum tomorrow 😁
Worst review I've seen... petty grievances and you never name those newer and flashier competitors that are also lower priced, do you mean Hyundai? Also, which ones don't have any throttle lag and have more responsive transmissions?
Greetings Matt - Good review and I appreciate your candor. Here's hoping Toyota listens to their customers and your input for the 2020 version. I saw the reveal and read some initial reviews which seem favorable. I'll be looking forward to your review in December when the 2020 hits showrooms. Also, please review the hybrid subsequently coming out that following February.
Did you try the power mode and shiftronic on the move? This car is set for eco mode on default on start.
Put it in PWR Mode and that solves the throttle response complaint and the downshift/transmission tuning complaint.
I have a 16’ Limited, glad i dont have that transmission. I have no problem with get up and go, no throttle issues. I rather have a mechanical E brake than electronic E brake, just another thing to give an issue and one less thing to deal with when doing the rear brakes.
👍 great review
Imagine being the automaker, getting excited for the review to come out and you get that video title LMFAO
😂😂
Hi Matt. Nice vid. Liked before watching because I knew it was going to be good
Thanks Bob!
@Shuffle3956 he did respond to me
@@MattMaranMotoring ur welcome Matt
@Shuffle3956 You spoke too soon, bro!
Bought my wife an XLE, I really like it. The only problem I have with it is the position of the side mirrors when you trying to pull out on a steep hill, but I live in East TN, off a side road off another side road off a back road.
I own a 2019 highlander SE and I LOVE IT!! Such a smooth ride and it’s very spacious!
Are the headlights whitish or yellow?
Rick Woodorth they are not yellow. They are soft white led.
Same I put this as my dream car
I wanted an SE, but at the time, I just found a premium platinum. No regrets. Both SE and the higher trims are great!
To get a good mpg, you have to be close to sea level. Even at 3000ft elevation hurts mpg. In cold climates, mpg will suffer as well. 20mpg is still not bad for a 4400lb 3rd row mid-size suv. I was getting 10-11mpg hwy in my 2011 Suburban 1500 LT.
Looks last gen to competition but man do these last the length of time. I know several over 300k miles all original. These things are bulletproof.
Matt I'd love to see a 4Runner review! Esp offroad edition. It's my fav SUV. And I'm not a huge fan of SUVs but a 4Runner is something I would consider.
Still snowing in PGH????? hope the heated seats work well.

Can’t wait for Highlander TRD!
If they do make one
Not happening
@@integrafreak1 u dont know that
@@BobThe9534 Yes I do, it's not happening.New car/refresh will be coming around 2020.
that's not what the highlander is meant to be, its meant to be a family vehicle. you're clearly the type that thinks any suv is good for offroad. it also wouldn't be the best marketing choice when they have trd vehicles like the trucks and the 4 runner. this isn't like the denali line in gmc, not every Toyota is gonna get a trd model.
Kinda surprised you only got 20 mpg highway. I have a 2015 Toyota 4Runner just an SR5 premium and it gets 22-23.5 highway if it's not real windy and it's just got the old 4.0 V6 and a 5 speed auto
Hey Matt. I’m a bit taller than you, is the driver legroom adequate for someone 6’3”? I don’t fit well in the RAV4. Thanks for a thorough review of the Highlander.
What up, I’m 6’0, honest opinion is that the leg room is quite thin. Went on a 4 hour trip and it was fine, didn’t need to stop to stretch or anything, just might get annoying for some people.
Could you review the new Camaro with the 10 speed? I'd like to see a comparison since you drove the 8 speed. And ur reviews are amazing.
sick intro music :D
Still the benchmark for resale and reliability. Great for road trips but a little clunky handling around town.
That’s a nice lookin vehicle
ikr
Ya in 2014
dude, weather looks nasty. take a trip down south soon. you deserve it.
Do you like the highlander better than MDX? Wife’s 2014 MDX is getting a little old and we would like to find another vehicle about the same size or a bit larger in the trunk.
Autonut really a 2014 is getting old ? I have a 2015 4Runner with 40k miles yes BUT still drive a 2002 Traiblazer with 200k miles fairly regularly and an Acura is just a rebadged Honda which means it is good for years and years to come
Toyota4__Life Yeah, I’m not worried about dependability, just would like to have a newer vehicle for her. We have a few old vehicles too...2005 GTO and a 2000 wrangler.
I like the way the MDX drove better. I’d recommend the Pilot too.
Matt Maran Motoring Thanks!
Shuffle3956 it didn’t seem like a downgrade. The MDX is just a Honda...nothing special. As for me maintaining my cars...I take decent care of them. It’s in great condition. We just like new daily drivers every so often and we had that car for 5.5 years would be nice to upgrade.
EcoSport review?
The 5th year of ownership of our highlander is coming up. We have a 2014 with 73k and it has been very good to us. Thinking about upgrading to the upcoming (If it's good) model or palisade sometime in 2020.
The Palisade does seem very promising, and the next-gen Highlander is being tested for the 2020 model year. (in case you don't believe me, look it up)
Jordan Catcher The new highlander is coming late 2019
@@supremeetnel7707 I'm meanwhile expecting it to reveal at the New York Auto Show this year.
You should keep the Toyota will last you 15-20 years!
Jordan Catcher same
This guy doesn’t like the car and will not say it directly. When someone brings up almost every feature, and then mentions the negative, in a disappointing fashion, I get it, this one is not for you.
Agreed , very negative.
Looks ok
Please review the Passport!
Interior looks like a car from 2000
Well i know toyota’s aren’t very gadgety vehicles but hey guess what they really are vehicles built to last with overall reliability and resale value no matter what, and i kinda agree with you on how not very technically future proof this particular model looks even though its a 2019 model but i have personally driven one of these for a while as a loaner provided by my dealership and i can personally say it was an amazing experience with overall toyota’s approach towards the ride comfort and other factors which are very much essential apart from being very sleek internally or gadgety and i say its not that bad in person once you get a closer feel of the interior it does look good.
You complain so much. I died when you said the volume nob was too far away... The car is perfectly fine
The SE cost 40k so I’m not sure what he’s talking about
I guess I'm getting old, I think the interior looks very modern and upscale.
Review a Honda Odyssey
I wish they'd make a two row highlander for those who just want a 5 passenger SUV with loads of space. Kind of like what Hyundai offers with the Santa Fe Sport. If I want a 7+ passenger vehicle I'd just get a minivan which can actually comfortably fit 7 or 8 adults.
Notification Squad!
Not me today
Whine after whine after whine. Really why don’t you tell us how much you hate this car? Is this supposed to be a review or picking on flaws in a vehicle? I will have to check another video of yours and see if you attack another car the way you did this one. Cup holders too big?! Have you seen The “medium” size cups you get from most fast food places? They’re huge and unfortunately not everybody orders a small soy latte. By the way next time don’t forget to complain about the glass quality or how hard the pedals feel on your super plush leather shoes.
Take it off the road, to see what it can do in the snow weather.
Pretty much nailed my thoughts. Hate the new trans and programming Toyota has on this, Camry, Rav, Tacoma. Only the old 6-speed auto Tundra and Sequoias still drive well with no lag or computer issues.
Still better than a CVT. Kudos to Toyota for sticking with a tried and true AT.
synth505 an auto trans is fine. The programming is horrid. As it is with nearly all of their new 8-speed autos unfortunately. Actually, same for even our 6-speed auto 2017 Tacoma. They just blew it trying to eek out .5 more mpg and having the computer force upshifts far too soon in every gear. Sucks the life out of the 3.5 that requires high revs for any amount of power.
Andy Wheaton If you’re in The Taco, use the ECT PWR Mode and that changes the Transmission tuning and throttle response. Or you can use the S-Mode and manually hold the gear you want. In the Highlander, you can put it in PWR Mode and also improve the Throttle response and shift patterns. If that’s still not enough for you try installing a Pedal Commander, that really changes the throttle by wire programming with adjustable settings. In the regular modes fuel economy is the priority in its tuning/programming.
Brodi Wheeler yes i know. But then it drives equally as bad. Hangs too high in gears, slows down abruptly, etc. Toyota needs an “in between” program. They’ve changed all their programming to eek out .5 more MPG and as a result made their vehicles drive poorly. It’s not just Toyota. Others have done the same thing.
Andy Wheaton Just thought I’d try to help. They seem to drive fine to me and hundreds of thousands of others, but everyone’s different. Sorry you’re not happy with your Taco, maybe go Manual on the next one.

Did you manage to set up the power setting? Oh you didn’t even know that did you? Please learn your product properly.

Subaruwrxfanism of the day... "you just touch them, and hope that it registers"
Some of the criticism is unnecessary, like the slow locking truck, it's a safety feature
that's a little disappointing that I have a 2007 highlander and the new highlander still has the same problems???
At least Toyota is more reliable than Mercedes
Like what?
@@integrafreak1 like a C63
@@BobThe9534 No I asking Bryan like what are some problems both generations of Highlanders have
His problem is, he still has a 2007. I have this and it’s great. Just keep working hard and u could have one too

NICE Review: 2019 Toyota Highlander SE AWD - Ready for a Redo
All the titles r nice
🙌🏾
I don’t think he likes this car
I do not see any comprising with this vehicle. It's the most reliable vehicle you can buy, literally the only other higher reliability vehicle is a hatch yaris and that almost doesn't count as it's too small.
Very negative review imo.
Can you do an objective review and compare to other suvs in the same category?
"Ready for a Redo"
Just in time implying that as the next-generation Highlander is currently testing. (look it up in case you don't believe me)
This thing really is a dinosaur compared to the competition these days. A full redesign can't come quick enough. Compare this to the new Palisade or Telluride and it's just embarrassing that Toyota wants to charge you the same price.
This is more opinion than review. Get it together.
No pleasing some people
