Just traded our Honda with 16000 miles, so many problems, that they couldn't fix. Highlander, Toyota is by far superior in quality and dependability. The best part about buying a vehicle is you have a choice no matter what brand you buy. My wife chose the Highlander XLE over the pilot. She found it easier to drive and park in the garage over the pilot. Believe it or not, I seriously enjoy driving it .. this coming from a Tundra driver! Enjoy what ever you buy. Good luck. Great video.
If you don't mind me asking which Honda did you trade in so I don't end up buying the same car. I'm considering buying a highlander within 60 days the comment is useful thanks
@@praiseandworshipthankyouje757 CR-V EXL AWD. Honda tried to give a discount on the pilot. I have a friend in Honda service. He said the pilot has high maintenance cost. My wife is really enjoying her Highlander. Have a blessed day. Let us know if you need any other info.
I bought a 2015 Highlander Limited new in 2014; this car is absolutely amazing! I loved it so much! My only problem with my model in particular was the screen, over the past two years the screen occasionally turns off and freezes. Mainly around whenever I need maintenance. I recently bought a 2018 Cadillac XT5 and I rather it miles more over my Highlander. Thank you Toyota for a great 4 years with a very solid and reliable car. Great review guys! Keep up the good work!
I know you enjoyed doing this review but have you all seen what the 2019 Rav 4 will look like!? If you all have the same feelings as me, I cannot wait till those get released! You'll be amazed at the features especially the well lit interior.
That's even more compact, similar resistive touch entune system with almost no features which are standard in other brand's 2018 vehicles unless you pay extra for the highest trim only. Apart from corolla and camry, toyota is ripoff 1980s car.
Thank you for your excellent comprehensive review... I am considering .... I have a 2003 Highlander and there is nothing wrong with it, thanks to the fact that I have kept it up faithfully..
I'll wait and see what the 2020 version offers. I hope they don't extend it too much farther; If they do, they'll need to slot a new vehicle between the small Rav4 and ever-growing Highlander like Honda just did with the Passport. That way people that need more than the compact Rav4 , but don't need the 3rd row of the over-sized mammoth mega family movers, (Pilot,Atlas,Ascent,Palisade,Telluride,Explorer,Traverse, Enclave, among others) will have a reasonably sized, quality vehicle. We still have a 1st Gen Highlander(still a great car) and would love to see a slightly larger, high tech version to compete with the Passport; with Toyota reliability, I think they can win back the larger 2 row segment
My brother-in-law just bought this $50k box of plastic. I still cant believe they STILL use the same font on the buttons. Its been the same since 1996!
Are the LED fog lights better on the 2019 than the Halogen on the 2018, is one brighter than the other. I have a 2018 Highlander Limited and the halogens seem to work OK.
Myself I’m disappointed with my ‘19 Highlander XLE in that Toyota abandoned the Entune system in this model which means there is no way to upgrade to a navigation system. And no Apple car play. Also for a 38K auto there is no backup alarm. You need to get the limited model to get what most other car companies provides across all their models.
The Highlander has aged well, but it does have a good amount of missing content available or even standard in competitors. Apple car play and android auto, for starters. Also remote start is standard on pretty much all trims of the Pilot so the fact that it’s still optional on the Limited is ridiculous. The key isn’t very premium-looking. The infotainment system looks ancient. The lack of LED headlights as you approach $50k is offensive to say the least. Lastly a handsfree tailgate just needs to happen; the explorer and pilot have it, everyone else needs to follow suit. A redesign is well due
Clearly, comfort is not high on the list for many car buyers, as the third generation is a kidney shaker! I bought a 2013 Limited model simply because it was way superior in comfort and suspension.
No apple car play and android auto. (but 2019 camry and rav4 already have carplay so why not the highlander.) YES to toyota safety sense features- standard to all trim including the base model (Not all competitors is doing that) YES to toyota's reliability (you need the most if you buy this car for your family, what's the use of advance infotainment system if your car started to give up on you just few months after you bought it.) Not the best SUV in the market when it comes to DESIGN but hey it's not the worst either. In the end many customers will still buy it. (my opinion)

The Ford Maverick had a shelf most or all of the way across the lower dash, and very old VW’s had an optional wicker shelf that went all the way across as well.
I just brought Highlander 2019 3 months ago . The GPS has no voice , and the air vent don't work properly. The seat hurt my back . I regret that I brought the vehicle. So many things wrong with it. As of Nov 2018 Pandora, Fartbook and Open Table for Entune will no longer be available. Don't care about Fartbook or Open Table but Pandora? C'mon Toyota inside a car is all about music.
Haven’t all of y’all noticed that this design is old because this came out in 2014, it’s most likely not going to have Apple car play ,like the new Toyota’s coming out they be getting Apple car play cause it’s a new design🤦🏻♂️
These are super nice SUV's. Super spacious, and very reliable. I hope they don't mess it up when they come out with the redesign. They need to keep the V-6, all the storage cubbies, and add all the new technology like auto-reverse braking, along with Android Auto, pano sunroof, and a quality 360 camera.
Who cares? Smart people buy Toyota because they are reliable, not because of gimmicks. I drive a 2014 Toyota Matrix and you know what? It has NO Apple Carplay, but no problem, I can listen to the radio or the CD. Most importantly, NO repair bills. Only minimum maintenance such as a synthetic oil change every 16,,000km is required, I spend my Saturdays doing something useful instead of servicing my car.
@Joe Prestera. Excellent car! I have a 2005 Pontiac Vibe AWD which my son is driving now. 350,000km(!), driven through 13 Canadian winters and still no problems with the engine or automatic transmission. The air conditioning is not working anymore, I've had to replace a couple of oxygen sensors, EGR valves and wheel bearings over the years, but no other issues.
I am wanting a Highlander, but can't find the option that gives me that plastic lined back for the third row seats. Did that come from the factory? See 19:08 for what I am talking about.
Great music during the JBL system test!! Also, do you happen to know any info on when Toyota will release a completely redesigned Highlander? I want the Highlander, but I don't like the entune system the current Highlanders have. It's not HD enough, like what Honda's infotainment system has. I know at 14:10, you said that it's "probably the last year for this gen," but any official word from Toyota?
the last two Highlander generations lasted for about 6 years each. I don't think Toyota has officially announced it but is very likely that they will come out with the new generation in 2020.

@@CarConfections I'm seriously shopping Toyota for my next vehicle. Did a test drive last week with the new 2019 Rav4....worst ride ever! The 8 gear transmission couldn't make up its mind what gear to go into. Very high, whiney sound like I ran over a cat. Just got bad vibes driving this! Cheaper plastics on the interior also...not impressive for $30,000+. I wanted to like this car because it was so cute. But then I checked Edmunds.com for customer reviews in my Disneyland/Anaheim California neighborhood...waaay too many local folks with NEW vehicles having serious transmission slippage/ crappy gear issues with this car! I’m thinking about trading in my 2015 Toyota. Highlander to get a Lexus lx 570 what should I do
You lose again Toyota! Stop being like Apple and give what the people want. I'd rather buy a Hyundai with Apple car play over a platinum highlander without. Smdh.
Does entune support waze?
It does not
can you do 2019 toyota 4runner?
Yes we will be reviewing it soon!
What’s the top of the line model ?
Limited Platinum
How can this even compete with the pilot?
Your 100% right
Alexander Lantigua the pilot is fugly no offence. This Toyota looks like an alpha.
NO HYRBID
It stays in my garage while your pilot stays in the mechanic garage
How much is the cheapest Highlander with 7 seaters? So tempting to trade our Honda lol
14:25 OML I THOUGHT IT WAS DONE AND I HAD A HEART ATTACK
(cause i clicked on this to see the trunk
btw)
Where is the sos bottom?
How much
Honda Pilot is better 2019
Mandip Karki , better in what way? Definitely not reliability. I am curious in your opinion because I plan to get a suv in 60 days and most likely a highlander
@@praiseandworshipthankyouje757 size, updated tech (apple carplay, Android auto, bigger interior size, bigger center unit screen and better looking, bluray entertainment system, wireless charging) At this day and age (2019), there's no excuse not to have at least android auto and apple carplay. 2019 highlander has not changed since 2017.
You have a good point
No hybrid model on the pilot!!!
Praise and worship Thank you Jesus The Highlander has plenty of buttons. If you prefer reliability over tech, go for the Highlander
I like the pilot more.
Subie Guy1 same
Add CarPlay TaTa
No mention of spare tire? If included, full size or temporary and whether under the rear like pickup trucks or under the rear floor in luggage department?
Sorry for that. There is a spare located underneath the cargo area (accessable from the outside)
@@CarConfections thanks!!!
Do some practicality test like Carwow does
They are more realistic
Center console sucks. Needs a flip up and better organization. That shelf is hideous.
I have a Highlander and that shelf is a must for me. Extremely useful.
That shelf is beautiful.
2019 RAV4 Review Please!
We filmed one today, actually. Review will be posted before Christmas!
One lady's car actually froze in low gear on the freeway. Just read the reviews!! I dont see any long term quality here. To me the RAV4 was like a beautiful looking woman who'd be a witch 🧙♀️ to live with...you won't enjoy the ride for the long run! So I'm waiting for the 2020 Highlander to come out in December. Keep up the excellent work . You two are the best, most straightforward reviewers on the RUclips! Thanks! 🤗
@UCDAlzqVU_m5seZaMirEuErA Thanks! Glad we could help! We're looking forward to checking out the new Highlander later this year!
Great review as always. The vehicle though, very outdated.
what is the song title
You didnt show how to bring up to 8 seats.
You have to get a model with a bench seat in the second row to make it 8 seats. You can't modify the bucket seat model like this one to 8 seats.
Unacceptable to still be using projector headlights and not LED. WTF
No Android Auto on the Highlander, yet, correct?
That's right
2020 will have it!
