Bought this car last year with AWD. AWD actually works really well. I took it off road. The Highlander is so quiet too. Although I drive a modded WRX so maybe I'm not the best reference. The best part about the Highlander is that it is so spacious and relaxing. I go on long drives and don't feel fatigued at all. A 200 mile drive feels like 50 miles in this vehicle. @coffeeinthemorning Costco Auto Program is $1,000 less than TrueCar lowest price. For example, 2019 Highlander for $1,500 under invoice, $7,020 under MSRP on Limited trim.
I have decided to wait for the 2020. It fixed the major flaws in the navigation system. It's blue tooth will handle Android phones such as I have whereby they only do I-Phones today. They come with 20" tires for an even smoother ride. The 2020 comes with a lot of extras not available on the 2019. In short the 2019 is way behind today's times and should be have re-designed years ago. I do understand you want to sell the 2019 because this is all you have to sell at the moment and is hard to comment on a car you never have seen nor ridden in. The only advantage of buying the 2019 is the end of year huge discounting and 0% financing now available vs. waiting another year for the lower pricing.
That and they also reduced the power on the hybrid version. Made it a 4 Cyl from a V6 and reduced the HP by nearly a 100. If this had not happened I would be owning a 2020 Highlander already. Instead I am on the fence for the last 5 months. I do want a hybrid.
@@silverback1962 I am looking at the Hybrid also and like the 12 inch display in The 20/20 and Lane keep assist is better than the 2019 I hear. So only a 4-cylinder and the rear glass hatch will not open is that correct
It will be tacky, will require disassembly, not to mention $$$ required for that project. And worst of all - it defeats the purpose of having family 3 row SUV if you'll start doing mods on a Toyota. Might as well buy something else to begin with. What's the point?
That water bottle bouncing around in the cup holder is a zonk for me. Could even be a deal breaker as I’ve always got a water bottle in my cup holder. Why is it so hard for most car manufacturers to quality check something as simple as this?Just put those little plastic squeeze pieces inside the cup holder to firmly hold skinny bottles. Great review though!!

The navigation screen the Sun hits the screen and you cannot even see it. It would be better of for the vehicle to have 19" tires. And for the side view mirrors to be powered N and each left and right from the inside and still sticking your hand out and making it go towards you if you go to a drive-through. At Japan has the best highlanders with more specs then the US

Hey, I appreciate your videos too and certainly wish you the best! I’d considered buying the 2019, but later began following the Hyundai Palisade up until the recent launch. Knowing what you know... which would be your pick between the XLE Highlander and an SEL Palisade? I like pretty much everything about the Palisade, but at the end of the day I know that Toyota’s reliability is proven. I think it’s not without question that someone can easily get 300-400k miles out of the Highlander, but I’m really not so sure if that’ll be the case with the Palisade... mainly since it’s too new to know for sure, but I’ll take it as a plus that it’s built in Korea. What do you think?
My thought is that I don't want to own a vehicle for 300k miles. I'd get bored and would want to drive something else. I think I would lose money on the Palisade trade-in so might as well get the one with better trade-in value.
Fidel Bañuelos I know what you mean. Lol, in fact, I own a toyota that has over 100k miles. It still drives like new, but man am I ready to have a new experience. Then again it makes sense financially to keep vehicles as long as possible (taken we’re not dumping money on repairs). Btw, are you interested in buying the palisade? If not, is there any other suv that’s caught your attention? Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
ShoGo Racing Get the Highlander! I’m planning to get a 2020 Highlander when it comes out! Have a 2002 Highlander with over 500k miles and love it!!! You won’t regret buying the Highlander!!! Kia and Hyundai aren’t reliable they tend to have problems...time will tell but the Highlander is the best bet.
@@shogoracing4294 I'm looking at 3 right now. Telluride, new Explorer, Palisade. Test drove the Kia and Hyundai and just waiting for the Explorer to be available.
Justin Xu Thanks for sharing your opinion. Yea... I don’t think that I’d regret buying the Highlander, but the Palisade is soooooo nice! Have you driven it yet? If so, I highly recommend it. It’s so much more fun to drive than the Highlander, in my opinion. Also, the exterior & interior styling combines with the space are awesome. Hopefully you’ll drive it and let me know what you think. I’m hoping (*knock on wood) that the Palisade will be a game changer in the reliability department as well, for Hyundai. There’s no doubt that the Hyundai brand has come a long way in regards to making improvements. It also makes me think that some day Korean auto companies will surpass the Japanese in overall quality. What do you think?
There's a reason that Toyota redesigned the Highlander for 2020. The current version had gotten VERY long in the tooth. The third generation was introduced in 2013 (refreshed in 2016) and still doesn't have Apple Carplay/Android Auto. (That comes in 2020.) At a bit over 192", the 2019 Highlander is among the smallest of the midsize three row crossovers. (Only the KIA Sorento at 189" is shorter among the midsize entries.) For 2020 the Highlander gains about 3" in order to provide a bit more room in the third row, a spot in the 2019 version that's suitable only for a bound and gagged hostage or very small children. Otherwise, however, the updates for 2020 (non-hybrid) model consist mainly of replacing some of the the dated interior features of the earlier generation. If the 2019 model works for you, it may be worth getting the last version of the previous generation. Much like the deals available for the 2019 Explorer before the arrival of the 2020 model, Toyota dealers have a strong incentive to get the 2019 models off their lots so you can potentially save a bundle. On the other hand, if resale value is a consideration it's worth keeping in mind that a newer model year will always have a higher residual value down the line. That advantage is accentuated if the model is significantly redesigned from one year to the next. So if you plan to move on to another vehicle in, say, five years or less, the deal you strike with a dealer today should take into account the effect of depreciation on a 2019 model vs a new generation 2020 model. That difference may well amount to several thousand dollars three to five years from now. Unless the deal you strike with a dealer for a 2019 model amounts to a savings significantly more than that, you're not saving money in the long run.
Why bother with all that lol for last year model that is been replaced already in 4 months? Just buy 2017-2018 year with low mileage and save a ton! Same exact car as 2019 and for 10-15k less! Moreover might find Limited trim for same price as XLE - as they differ by like 1-2k at most in used market. It just makes no sense to overpay for a 2019 so much money and then pay taxes on top and still get old model to begin with.
I went and looked at a highlander today and the third seat is a joke. I didn't even attempt to get back there. The third row in the Telluride def beats the Highlander. Both vehicles have good features, now I just have to decide which one to pick 🤔😆
Yes, the third row is a joke, but most of the time it will be down for most. The highlander is a better buy since the Telli will cost at least 5-10 grand more.
@@jimdavis9581Yes the third row will def stay down. Actually, the highlander isn't as cheap as you may think. It's neck and neck with the cost of the Telluride if not a couple dollars more.
@@1slimldy Kia is a Kia - it's a badge many can't drive - poor image - it's like you are settling for poor mans Toyota or something lol. Also, Telluride and Pallisade look just horribly ugly. Highlander has classy design - way way better.
i was able to get an 18' certified pre owned XLE with 20k miles yesterday for $31 OTD. they had some low mileage 2020s for $34k which would have been nice but it was out of our budget. but i agree. price is high for brand new. anyone can find low mileage 2020's for great deals in my opinion.
You don't buy a new Highlander, you buy a Used one, cheaper - smart way. Toyota with other Carmakers are having a hard time selling new vehicles nowadays, and of course, they want you to buy now to get rid of 2019 inventory before the 2020s come out soon. If you really must buy a 2019 vehicle, play hardball or forget it.
Ramon Reyes ... I'm buying a 2020 Highlander XLE. Toyota put it on a new platform which gives it tighter handling + makes it 2 inches longer. Also V6 engine is now standard on all trims, which allows you to tow 5,000 lbs if necessary. The 4 cylinder engines only pull 1,500 lbs. Plus I want Android...and the updated styling/screen display is much better! Since I keep my vehicles for 15 years or more, I want the updated model. If price is more important, then you can buy 2019. Personally I'd feel dissatisfied purchasing last year's model with essential features that are already outdated. If you negotiate well, it won't save you that much money, especially when the used car market is being flooded with a ton of lease vehicles, which puts the new car market under pressure. Timing is everything. Go the end of January or the end of February when sales are the slowest & the salesman needs your sale for his end of the month quota. Happy New Year!
As an owner of 2014 Highlander (same look and interior as 2019) who now drives a 2019 Volvo XC60, here is the reason I will not buy the highlander: Sure its reliable and has a good resale value BUT... 1) The dash is high and windshield is small..not a good view of road compared to Volvo that drives like a car not an SUV. 2) 3rd row is really useless unless your kids are under 7 years old 3) Materials feel cheap 4) Ugly front and back and looks cheap for $40K car. Volvo looks super luxurious. 5) not a classy or comfortable ride like Volvo. 6) no one beats the safety of Volvo, how much value do you put on that? 2019 or 2020 what’s the difference?
Change your title to 2019 Highlander review
Like the video BUT what's the answer or your recommendation? 2019 or 2020?!
WHY IS NO ONE STILL DOING THE WINDOW ACCESS thats a necessity and i'm so sad they stopped that
That and they also reduced the power on the hybrid version.
Toyota, as always, worth their weight in gold.
Worth Weight in poops.
or buy another touch screen head unit from pioneer for car play or android auto
This is so very true!
This is better than the new weird design of the latest
I have the 2014 Toyota Highlander, looks the same. STILL narrow.
@Rait's Rides you do fantastic videos. I really like how go into details that matter to the everyday driver.
What is the best family SUV?
Thanks for saying that! I think for the price the Kia Telluride is wonderful.

Wait for the 2020 Model!!! Looks Way better and aggressive than the 2019
It will be more money.
i just got a used 18' CPO XLE yesterday for my wife. she is coming from an 09' CRV so its not dated to her lol. she loves it. she didnt like the 2020/2021's.
Congrats man!
Good Review 👌. Bought 2019 Highlander Limited last month from SunTOYOTA. Gr8 Dealership and excellent Vehicle. Very Smooth and Comfortable Ride. 👍
Thanks for the compliment.
Hi raities rides, I would your opinion on buying an toyota highlander by giving 2013 CRV, which highlander should we buy for a small family ride?2019/2020.
You didn’t mention if this Highlander was FWD,AWD or 4x4
My question, too.
Izz man Its a XLE awd (all wheel drive). I just bought a 2019 Highlander XLE awd drives great! Just saying
The navigation screen the Sun hits the screen and you cannot even see it. It would be better of for the vehicle to have 19" tires. And for the side view mirrors to be powered N and each left and right from the inside and still sticking your hand out and making it go towards you if you go to a drive-through. At Japan has the best highlanders with more specs then the US
Very good point!

The 2020 looks great
nice to see a local video
Thanks Tony that really means a lot!
Joe, what did you like more? The Subaru Ascent or the Highlander?
I'm going Ascent.
@@RaitisRides have you heard my about CVT transmission having any issues?
I just found your channel today and I totally prefer you over Doug DeMuro.
We have a 2018 Highlander limited it’s great we are going to buy a 2019 for our son who just graduated medical school nice gift wow
Thanks for sharing your input and perspective! I really appreciate you watching!
That's it I'm buying a 2020 Ford explorer!
Chris Daly Found On Road Dead, good luck.
rodinian777 yes I agree
I've read those exact words in some car review site. Did you cut and paste?
@@fidelbanuelos9601 Nope. Just a good memory.
M VA get the Highlander more reliable!
Which one would you choose the Highlander or Passport?
Peter highlander
I want to buy a Toyota Highlander .Buy a toyota highlander is my dream always.
$42k MSRP is insane. Can’t believe people are buying new cars at that price.
i was able to get an 18' certified pre owned XLE with 20k miles yesterday for $31 OTD. they had some low mileage 2020s for $34k which would have been nice but it was out of our budget. but i agree. price is high for brand new. anyone can find low mileage 2020's for great deals in my opinion.
I just bought the2019 xle hybrid. Last year for the 306 hp v6.
Paid too much for a car that has not changed since 2014. The 2020 is very nice and much more efficient.
@GOD OVER MONEY , I was looking for used 2016 Highlanders and couldn't find one so far.
I'm thinking of buying a 2020 but what is really the answer between 2019 and 2020? Should I buy the 2019 instead or the 2020?
If you ca get a great deal you may want to go with the 2019.
Happy New Year!
well, up to your budget decide
I love
the oh la la rouge mica color.
The 2019 front looks like a cylon from the original battlestar galactica. 😜
Too much Chrome makes the car look cheap.
super great content n job on your video it was great u maid me laugh, u the best god bless brother
no XM radio, no digital speedometer, no electronic tire pressure monitor. WTF Toyota??
As an owner of 2014 Highlander (same look and interior as 2019) who now drives a 2019 Volvo XC60, here is the reason I will not buy the highlander:
Sure its reliable and has a good resale value BUT...
1) The dash is high and windshield is small..not a good view of road compared to Volvo that drives like a car not an SUV.
2) 3rd row is really useless unless your kids are under 7 years old
3) Materials feel cheap
4) Ugly front and back and looks cheap for $40K car. Volvo looks super luxurious.
5) not a classy or comfortable ride like Volvo.
6) no one beats the safety of Volvo, how much value do you put on that?
Finally, no one will care you drive Toyota...but Volvo XC60 is a chick magnate. I can't tell you how many complements I have got from ladies and how many I have met with this car. Go test drive both and tell me if I am wrong!!
don't blame the car. i drive the same volvo and i can't pick up any chicks because i'm ugly af.
@@itr0863 ..Toyota is a great car however pretty boring, unattractive and has no soul. Volvo xc is just amazing...I am not sure where you live but Asian chicks love this car. You might be driving Swedish ride in day time but I have had 2 Asian rides at nights since I purchased this car 4 months ago. Pretty soon they will lick your chopsticks!!😁..no one even looked at me at the stop light with my 2014 Highlander!!
Lol, first of all Volvo is Chinese owned car lol, that's for many even worse than Kia lol. Second, Highlander actually looks the best among it's competition. 2014 is older version, so not same looks lol. Third, who cares about Volvo lol, are you old fart? Asian chicks are probably going to be the only ones who you can pick lol, as no one beter will even look at Volvo lmao. Volvo is a poor mans Audi (which in turn is poor mans BMW lol).
@@azerogliev6520 Habibi, your Trumpian analogy is good for those smart and bright Persian Gulf sheikhs to buy more beautiful weapon!! China's Greely has bought Volvo and its built in Belgium. Just like your underwear, moms bra and everything around your home, sooner or later, Chinese will own everything. Volvo is a cheaper, safer and more reliable than the bimmer or Audi. I had researched for 8 months before buying this car and talked with many owners. I test drove everything from GLC, Q5 and X5 and but consumer report rates Volvo higher in reliability and value. If Lexus RX didn't look so horrendous, I would have bought one. I dont think any young dude can afford any of these cars or even Toyota RAV4. I am 42 and have 3 paid off houses and no debt and she is hot 30 year old model. If that's old to you and you can afford to drive an X5 and take care of your mechanics mortgage with no debt then more power to you.
@@meenam300zx Lol, you are pathetic with your crap volvo. It looks cheap, boring and drives accordingly. It's a chinese crap. Model lol? Yeah, you probably have no idea what a model is. Bruh you are trying too hard - it's telling.

Yeah..good luck with that 😂😂
It must be a toyoya lexus, thing my wife's NX tail gate opens and closes at a painfully slow speed.
I feel your pain, my wife's rav4 does the same. It's annoying.
This guy looks like he’s squeezing in that seat. Doesn’t look like there’s enough space in the drivers seating area
There was plenty of room.
How do you put the headrest up in the third row
The heating knobs are a pain in the back. my hands slips on those frik'n things. they are so flat.
That is a ver good point!
You cameraman needs to sit on the passenger seat while you are talking about the panel, couldn't see clearly. Other than that great review.
Thanks for the feedback Fernando! I actually let him go and have a new one.
This exterior looks better. I can’t stand the exterior styling of the 2020 especially the side bulges over the rear fender.
Thanks for sharing your input and perspective! I really appreciate you watching!
No problem. I’m 35 miles away from Wesley Chapel😂 The 2019 highlander is a much better value right now and i can add apple carplay on my own.
Thanks! Enjoyed the review of the 2019 XLE. This is the model I am most interested in presently. I had a base model 2013 previously. I am curious about the 2020 Highlander and is there (I'm sure there is) a comparable XLE with the 2020?
I am so happy you enjoyed this one!
Do lexus rx 350 is more comfortable than highlander?
i think so, but the highlander is roomier. my mom has an RX and i just picked up a used highlander for my wife.
