As an artist whose art for much of my adult life was compensatory--coming from an abusive childhood and having a good amount of self-loathing, it was all about : look at ME , admire ME , love Me. Then, because of my own evolution, a lot of therapy, introspection and reflection, I finally got out of my own way and was able to become a conduit for Source (when it's at it's best). Sure, I've done the footwork, the 10,000 hours, but it's not about me anymore. I've done the grunt work, but it's totally not about me , and when someone gives me praise or thanks I can say "thank you" sweetly, but I know it's all about something greater than any of us, the Source of Creativity.

I’d love to know if there was an actual moment you realized this.
I’m on, what feels like the brink of the shift to creating for the world instead of the “look at ME”.

This is where I’m at with it! Happy to know I’m not alone in thinking that still pursuing the arts can be a selfish thing but doesn’t always have to be. And yes, becoming a vessel for source!! Love it. Keep going

    The ending was the best.
He didn’t promote anything, he just said thanks and went off. He is a legend. He is full of wisdom and you can see his soul shining through. He is not full of ego , he’s in flow with God. That’s what a real maestro is.

So, no one in this spiritual corner of the internet is aware of Rick Ruben and his association EARLY associations with s3x pred@tors like Russel Simmons, Puffy, and is now hosting white parties now that Puffy can't? Maybe do some background on your maestro. Engery is transferable - directly or indirectly. It's amazing how he is having his second coming after all his old associates are facing criminal charges. 😒

There were moments of this conversation that reminded me of something my brother said many years ago--he's always been very into philosophy and experimental music, film, comedy, etc. He said, "in order for something to be TRULY new, it MUST seem weird." And then he repeated it a second time, lol. I'm glad he did because I fully heard it. That one quote has stuck with me and helped shape everything I've engaged with and done creatively, ever since.

i love the scenery behind Rick Rubin during the podcast, its refreshing, like we dont have to only record inside of studios.. wish more podcasters would do outdoor recordings and it seems like the conversation would be more free and open minded rather than being trapped in a room like droning on and on about the same "issues" in the world.. go the f*** outside and see everything is pretty much going great and peaceful, for most of us, most of the time

I agree that more people should do things outside (depending on the weather) and more people should have access to third-spaces in general! It probably also depends on what kinds of parks and outdoor areas that people live near though (the parks I live near are nice and I've visited occasionally, but I sometimes feel like I'm intruding into people's personal space since some parks are homeless encampments - the housing crisis sucks).

20:42 What you're all describing is the exact reason why I never got a guitar teacher or learned by reading material. Simply was taught one song by my brother at about 11 And I'm now 38 and still play.... And I still have that absolute raw soul when I make things up.... Everybody I know that took the approach of being book learned, lost that level of soul in their art.
Which is a life lesson to take in. The other life lesson was just recent with guitar. As I stopped playing for a long time. And I got another acoustic strung it up and started playing only 3 minutes each morning. And surpassed myself phenomenally fast by only doing that and recorrected mistakes that I had never gone back to request because I was kind of advanced past them and used to doing it how I was doing it....
So I use the opportunity to kind of fix those bad habits...
So here's the other life lesson of it's just the consistency of everyday basically. And to know enough to put it down when you're having trouble, and leave it be for a little bit. Also a lesson I took in from skateboarding. And when you come back to it, you'll likely be better if you put it down long enough.
Every time I got super frustrated. Skateboarding. Sorry for the switch from guitar to skateboarding. But every time, I don't end up getting super frustrated and breaking my board or something. So I wouldn't skate for about a month. Hop back on the board and land the trick instantly that I could never do before...
The times that I didn't take a break. Well I never really landed the trick.. not right at least....

Aubrey is not really listening to Ricks" answers. He gives a short "right," in response and then elaborates on his question instead of asking a question based on Ricks' answer. It is extremely crushing to watch as I'd like to hear more of Ricks' elaborations than Aubreys'. Is Aubrey supposed to be an interview-er, or is this a discussion type of thing where Aubrey is supposed to keep talking about his experiences?

Yep, i question the effect of airpods long-term on native body signalling. Nicotine is good for cross-hemisphere brain activity though. Cigars are atleast a natural handmade product & not inhaled *soooo not healthy for gums long-term but definitely a psychoactive substance... its classified as an Entheogen. I smoked them for years, later had periodontal work done below the gumline & maaan.... the tar build-up was insane (& you couldnt see it above the gumline, crazy). Approach with cautuon! 😂

As a creative it's so nessary to hear these conversations because we need to hear the raw truth it doesn't need to be perfect or compared to anything else we don't need to be like others or accepted by everyone. We just need to to be real and flow with the energy of creation it really is a correction all art has a life of its own. My best work is when I let go and flow, when I let go and let it come through me rather than trying to be or make something specific. It needs to have a life of its own to be truely a great artwork

Through the methodless method of self-inquiry, and absolute surrender to the present moment, we peel away the layers of conditioning, that veil our true essence. This recognition or awakening, is not about gaining or achieving something new, but rather, it’s a shedding of the false identifications that bind us to suffering and falsely validate the illusion. 💜

Well this was fabulous!!! Thank you both so much!!!😁
Just gonna share something idk why but I thought was sorta funny but haha it’s not.
When you two sweet loving kind people are saying how you cannot figure how some people believe they know what is best for someone else and kind of in wonderment that some people must believe they do. My immediate thought is that there are no people who truly believe they know best for others. They may package their ideas in this way; what they are really doing is believing they know what is best for themselves, relative to what others are doing. They attempt to control not to offer what they believe is best for another; it’s what they believe is best for another as per how that particular circumstance of the other will actually affect their own lives.
I guess what I thought was funny is that you are both such beautiful people you felt clueless there. It’s certainly not a funny situation; I was just enjoying both of your immediate beautiful thoughts. It’s difficult to understand how someone might be hateful or mean when you are loving and kind yourself. ✌️

Lovely conversation, thank you. That tendency that some have to want to rip other people apart is really disturbing. I notice it more now in the age of the internet than was ever obvious before. There were always art reviewers, of course, who would make some cheap jibe that they didn't even believe, to get the alliteration and fill column inches. I remember an art critic years ago, who damned the winner of the Turner Prize as narcissistic non-painter - just for the alliteration of Ns. Ah well. Those who can, do. Those who haven't got the guts, sneer at those trying. T'was ever thus.

This came at the right time! I really appreciate this conversation! I'm having a hard time making music again. I thought learn to be a dj since everyone else is and maybe that would spark something but this convo helped me stay on my path. I'm literally drawing the metatron symbol on my throat as I listen. 😊

I would imagine the vibe you got from your experience at The Prodigy show, as "a parody", would come from Keith having left the 3D in 2019.
Enjoyed this chat with Rick ! 🙏

If there is one take away I made in this whole discussion is that never worry about some afterlife if there is one but instead, worry about making the most of this life we're given.

I love this fkn guy!!! I love the way he thinks because it resonates with me. I have known about Rick Rubin AKA DJ Double R formerly of the Beastie Boys when Def Jam was at its beginning. Whether he actually DJ’d or made beats doesn’t matter to me, the fact that he has a way thinking about ideas and having the right combination of people and resources to create and make them a reality is what matters to me. He is known as a reducer and it was printed on those early Def Jam records, the maroon and grey label at the time. Reduced By Rick Rubin. His way of doing things then is how things are being done now using ChatGPT, you have an idea, you input that idea into ChatGPT, the ideas are presented to you and you solve a problem by having the right people and resources. Great interview Salute 🫡
