  • When Don Nelson's Warriors and Paul Westhead's Enver Nuggets (no D) play, you know it's gonna be worth watching. Run-TMC score 99 points - 38 for Mullin, Hardaway has 32 and 18 assists, Richmond adds 29. The high-scoring trio for Denver is Orlando Woolridge (37), Walter Davis (33) and Todd Lichti with 19, combining for 89 points. NBA record - both teams combine for 320, run & gun at its best. Don Nelson's teams never play(ed) any defense. Whether it was the old school Warriors, or the Mavs with Nash, Nowitzki, Finley, etc or the new school Warriors with B Diddy, Richardson, Jackson, Pietrus, not much defense. I guess that's why the offense was so fun to watch from Nelson's teams!!

    Every time I come back and watch this over the years, it’s insane to see the scoring output in this game. It just reminds me that much more that defense wins championships. Sacrificing defense for offense is not optimal. You have to blend them both. The 2017 Warriors are the best example since 2000. They were solid defensively and were automatic from deep and in the mid-range. Their passing was on point. As a fan watching since 2004, they’re the best team I saw on live TV. They’re in the conversation with the ‘96 Bulls and ‘86 Celtics for the best single-season team ever, no matter how you slice it.

    Interstingly both teams were applying full court press, with apparently strick rules for each one to stay on their man no matter what. The result is a wide open court shootout, with many 1x1, 2x2 and 3x3s..... its rare to find a half-court set play being called.
    Wild wild shootout. So cool!

    people say theres no defense but its hard to get all 5 men back on defense while the offense is always running and gunning, that style of scoring doesnt allow defense to even get set up, other than man to man full court, i dont see how players can be fast and endurant enough to run to score and then run back faster than the offense who is always on the fast break, the defense is the offense

    • @posysdogovych2065
      @posysdogovych2065 6 лет назад

      I laugh at your ignorant comment. The reason nobody plays the run n gun has nothing to do with the speed of today's athletes (which is superior because nutrition and training techniques have absolutely improved in the past 25 years). Run n gun is a losing strategy, that's why nobody uses it. Denver averaged almost 120 ppg in 1990-91 and yet they only won 20 games because their opponents were averaging 130 (!).

    • @posysdogovych2065
      @posysdogovych2065 4 года назад

      @Jarard Jones Nope. The last time Denver averaged 120ppg was during the 1990-1991. Their highest since was in 2016-2017 when they averaged 111.7ppg. For most of their other seasons in the past 30 years, they were averaging in the upper 90s, low 100s.

    • @posysdogovych2065
      @posysdogovych2065 4 года назад

      @Jarard Jones What's your point though? I'm saying the run n gun isn't a good strategy, and the fact that the Nuggets averaged 43.6 wins during the 5-year stretch only proves it.

    • @andreaschristophorou3374
      @andreaschristophorou3374 9 лет назад +1

      2727taterbug The crux of the issue here is not running but defence. Every team despite of the pace they play at they have to defend to win. Secure the defensive boards, half court defence and transition defence.
      Those two teams were playing at the highest pace there was that season and they were two of the worst teams on defence. Warriors were way below average, Nuggets were simply the worst by a large margin both on Opp FG% and Opp PPG.
      So they were two pretty good canditates to make All-Time NBA history the way they did.
