display??? those are real blades by good man- just as sharp and durable as a traditional tamahagane katana, probably more so frankly. Im expecting 2 hours a day cutting practice from that little lady after school! (speaking as a martial arts instructor/national judo competitor).. train hard, fight easy. Ok maybe with dads supervision to be fair... atleast for the first year or 2. maintained properly, it will lose none of its beauty.
I didn't think the daughter would be that young, I was expecting someone in their 20's. That's one awesome dad to give something like that at that age.
I can’t believe this has been available to watch for two entire hours before I’ve seen this. I’ve lived in a world where this video exists and I haven’t watched it for two whole hours, and I’m not sure how to live with that
That are real pieces of art, made by an artist with know how and explain what it is and where it is for. Thank you for showing, it was a real pleasure to watch you working on it and to see the result, greetz from the Netherlands.
hey i couldnt be here for a loooong time. i was watching every video and commented on allof them because you said youll reply to all and you really did. but life as a homeless isnt that easy. ive had my phone breaking down, then some work, couldnt buy a phone, but now after a long time im back. nice to see what wonderfull things youve made in the meantime.
This is the most beautiful sword I have ever seen I would literally give one of my fingers for a piece like this. Or any piece of his I would give anything that have something to carry with me at all times. This is the best knife maker but I've ever seen their works of art thank you so much for what you do sir
This has got to be my new favorite katana build video because I've had this idea in my head for years and you literally did it with the copper just sucks now I know someone has one before me lmfao but amazing hopefully soon I can commission you to make me one soon
These look amazing. the pink wrap not working was a lucky accident because it looks much much better with the pink stingray and black wrap than it would have otherwise, imo
Those are beautiful !!!! .. I'm JUST NOW getting into knife making and hope to eventually have the tools and skills to make something even half as beautiful as these !
My man back with my favorite thing ever, these are beautiful. I would really love to see you take one of these and engrave additional branches off the natural windy copper layer to solder in copper to make it look like a long tendril of lightning running down the blade. If I was anything more than a broke bloke I'd commission it.
@@TyrellKnifeworks No, you're right, solder's melting point would be too low, perhaps inlaying the same copper from the forging, but that would be adding a ton of extra labor. While I have you, I was wondering why you didn't use copper for the pink Katana? If you got the copper to oxidize into copper(I) oxide (Cu2O), it would actually turn pink. :)
Well, at least his daughter doesn't need to worry about loup-garou with the silver in the blade😁 As always sir, gorgeous examples of the blademakers art!
Train hard little lady - I wish you all the best! starting this young is so helpful for a good martial arts career and the life skills it brings. I stated at 7, im old and crippled now, and my skills and training are the difference between living a reasonably normal life and being in a wheel chair/mobility scooter.. its not all about winning fights, its about determination, inner strength, and physical well being, and those will be with you all your life. Also beautiful work as always mr Tyrell.
This was Just my thought process with the Ito-wrap: maybe getting some white lace similar to what some shoelaces are made of and then dyeing them pink but I completely understand the time crunch and everything still came out amazing and I actually really enjoyed it
The Daughter was a little younger than I had envisioned- I had a teen in my mind; however, I think that the pink being inside is the better because I believe it will age better as she grows and matures. And funny enough, I visualised it as being pink ray skin inside rather than the wrap on the outside. Stunning blades. I'd like to have seen more footage of the scabbard- it looks beautiful.
They are very hard to photograph in their entirety. I just have a 2'x2' light box so I can't really get them in there. Plus I ran out of time to get better photos. The scabbards turned out extremely well I think. Many layers of lacquer over a speckled/hammered silver (or copper) paint. Thanks for watching!

something i find really interesting is normally the curve comes from the quench but because its silver and copper i imagine you really cant get the temp normally used so you create a curve manually
The curve in a katana is normally from claying the spine and doing a differential heat treat. That process will leave the spine soft and leave a hamon line, which is where the soft/hard steel produces a line. Because these katanas are damascus, If I had soft steel on the top, it would not etch correctly and look terrible. Instead the silver and copper act as shock absorbers. Thanks for watching.
man this has to be extremely difficult as you've gotta be so extremely mindful of the temperature due to the lower melting points of the different metals
Beautiful work! I rushed to judgment about the tang size. With a few glass's of bourbon already in it, it looked strange. Next time I'll lower my glass..lol
I was expecting the daughter to be like 16-17 years old. It's wild someone paid for a sword of that quality for a 8-10 year old! Well, it is an heirloom item and something she'll have for the rest of her life I bet. Can't say I'm not jealous, lol. Beautiful work as always. The silver one looks much better with pink samegawa rather than pink ito. I think that pink ito would have definitely cheapened the look of the item.
Awesome! This customer must have been very wealthy. I wish I could afford a sword like this! I'm really digging the copper one because of the contrast. Both look bad ass though! Great job. Hope you had a wonderful holiday, and have a Happy New Year!
I thought the curvature of the Katana was caused by the reaction of hot carbon steel and the softer iron core when quenched in cold water, rather than being intentionally shaped during forging.
I intentionally did not do a differential heat treat with clay because this sword is constructed from Damascus. If the top was soft it wouldn’t etch properly and look terrible. Thanks for watching.
Boy…favorite is a total toss up! They are both beyond stunning. The copper is more fitting for the father, whereas silver is gorgeously feminine. Incredible craftsmanship, as usual, Denis!
Which one is your favorite??
I'm going pink, because of the unique handle!
Copper looks cool to me👌
I have question is it possible to make katana with cobalt instead of copper?
Father and daughter vigilante duo origin story :)
Great blades - definitely going black, pink and silver.
Copper looks cool
Man…the copper and silver look like a wave shape hamon line. Really nice to see it come out that way.
Yup, those chevron dies worked their magic! Thanks for watching.
Finally, someone who explains what he is doing and the reasons why. Thank you. nice work.
Thanks for watching, Peter!
Looks like blood sweat and tears in this one. It must be one of your favorite pieces..As always thank you for your time sir.
THANK YOU! I really appreciate that! ❤️❤️❤️
Those are works of art that anyone would be so lucky to display at their home, office, dojo, etc.
Thanks so much for tuning in!

You really put your heart into making these swords, and I just want to say-well done! Seriously, great work!

He was quite cool to commission such a blade for his young daughter. Thanks for watching.
Um... Dennis. My dude. WTF? These things are just flat out too beautiful.
I hope your holidays are going wonderfully!
Thanks so much! My holidays are nice and relaxing now that these are complete. 🤣. I hope yours are good too. Thanks for tuning in.
Both swords are truly incredible. These blades look like they would have taken months to complete. You're a true artist.
They did take a while. Around 6-8 weeks for both. Thanks for tuning in.
Flabbergasted as usual! Just got my first forge! Cant wait to do things like this! Thank you sir for the inspiration.
Glad I can inspire you to try it out!
The silver is beautiful, but something about that copper and black makes it pop so much more. Great work brother.
Thanks for checking out this build!
From hearing about these on your podcast, I was really looking forward to seeing them. I'm Not disappointed. Beautiful work!
Thanks for listening to the podcast and watching!
My favorite? No question , the little ninja and her grampa! Great work !

I love the ending, when they received the Katanas, so cool!
I’m glad we got to do a presentation for them!
I liked that you participated. It closed the birth cycle of those katanas from inception to the hands of the final owners.
Dude these are incredible. I know how much work goes into my crappy little knives so I can only imagine...
S tier craftsmanship.
Thanks for tuning in! It takes quite a while to make even a small knife, swords can get ridiculous. 🤪
@TyrellKnifeworks been tuning in for a bit. Just finishing up your surface grinder build now! 🤘
the copper ones pattern reminded me of the beach .very beautiful thanks for sharing
Thank you! Cheers!

These look amazing. the pink wrap not working was a lucky accident because it looks much much better with the pink stingray and black wrap than it would have otherwise, imo
Yes, I think so too. Thanks for tuning in.
The copper one is a stunner!
