I made a mistake in the video, the sterling silver was $660, it was the huge piece of pure silver that was $1000. I've had a lot of people ask if I would do this with gold... Talking technically speaking, the only thing brother did wrong here is work cold steel and he did that once which is fine. This is the second most beautiful katana I’ve ever seen. The most beautiful one is his copper damascus one
I'd always been a HUGE fan of the copper but this is on a new level! It looks great. The sword came out really well though I am not a fan of the fuller. I am busy with a mod for Cyberpunk 2077, creating a black katana with a copper line through the blade. Because you were the inspiration I want to call it the Tyrell katana.
The jet black edge to silver to damascus transition was absolutely sweet, and I'm glad you did the fuller, as the repetition of silver further up gave it fantastic visual balance.
Thanks! I do like the black against the silver. The fuller was a late addition for weight and balance but they always look good in these layered constructions. Thanks for watching!
I have been recommending several knife makers to make a silver pattern welded blade for a long time, because Silver is my favorite precious metal. I don't know if you are the first RUclipsr knife maker to make one, but you're the first one I have seen make one successfully. Even if you had some melt out it makes no real difference because irregularity is the name of the game for pattern welding blades. Every part of this build is beautiful and for you to build and wrap the handle according to traditional Katana making in Japan, makes this build so beautiful, that I am struggling to find words that are proper. You did a fantastic job sir, as is always the case with your builds. Thanks for sharing, and I must add, that your build, even though you are a judge, will act as an example for other knife makers to follow. I think that your work is going to be one of the best in the challenge. Thanks for sharing!!!
Thanks so much! I really appreciate the comments and most of all you watching! These challenges are meant to push people’s comfort zones, including my own. Thanks for watching!

I don't usually comment on maker videos, but not only was the construction process very interesting... but, my goodness, the final product is stunning. The black damascus contrasted so well with the silver, the bright ground edge, and the other silver pieces. Beautiful craftsmanship.
I agree! It was for technical reasons to lighten the blade and balance but fullers always look very cool with these layered constructions! Thanks for watching!

Absolutely insane piece. I would love to own something like this one day. Only question, why didn't you use the giant emperor node on the stringray skin? It's generally considered very desirable, and you had a nice one on that piece of skin. Regardless, it's wild the level of skill and talent that went into this project.
Because this stingray skin is white, that node isn’t very visible, like it is on a black one, so I didn’t bother. I’ll use it on another project. Thanks for watching.
HE'S DONE IT AGAIN! I absolutely adored your Copper Damascus Katana, and Silver is my favorite metal. Love to see this. You are a master at work, and it shows!
The blade is incredible, your video was a joy to watch and your cutting technique is not half bad either. Love your work and much respect from the land down under.
Simply amazing craftsmanship!!! I wonder if this can also be made with red gold instead of silver.....I believe the red gold - black steel contrast would look incredible!!!!
I’ve done this with 24k gold but “red” gold has a lower melting point. I think it’s about the same as silver though so it’s probably possible. Thanks for watching.
I love how this guy explains the reasoning behind the forging choices he made. It makes things understandable for those who don’t know anything about smithing and it’s good tips for people like me who would like to get into it
I really love this silver and carbon steel katana you forged, and in the style you did, it is while still staying traditional. Beautiful work, and around my birthday no less last year. I love the copper cumai one you forged as well. But I am looking into swords and daggers I can buy online. But no one seems to have what I want. So I thought I'd ask you. First off. I'm pagan. Second, silver is very powerful, wards off evil, and is a very powerful conductor. Third, carbon steel has negative magnetic/conductive properties and stays sharp for a while. Fourth, I love fossils and desire blue and black opalized hardwood from Indonesia for a handle material that includes fluting with twisted silver islay in the flutes. And fifth. While I may not be ready to purchase and won't be for a while because I'm dirt poor at the moment, I would love both a parrying main goche dagger and a swept hilt rapier in the stile I just described similar to this katana. I prefer double-edged blades over single with a stabbing 7 I was wondering, though, it may be challenging if you could possibly make such weapons. my birthday is coming up, and I'm not asking for anything quite, yep. You actually may not be willing to take such a product on. But I'm asking if you can or think you could . So. Can you?
Ok I wish I had this sword… it is so beautiful, and as someone who appreciates the time and effort of the art of making swords, katanas specifically, this was so well made despite not making it 100% traditionally. Overall I say it’s a beautiful piece and anyone should fear this blade. Well done man!

I appreciate you checking out this build! Also thank you for the kind words, but I’m not quite a master yet. Working towards that title though. 😉. Thanks for watching.
This right here is a master piece. The amount of hardwork, effort, skill, experience, will and everything else is astonishing. You sir have my Respect. Have a good day.
@TyrellKnifeworks I actually sketched some concept art of the kind of character that would wield it, I was that enamored... it would look SOOOO good in something styled after neo noir- think Sin City meets The Last Samurai with a dash of Phantom of the Opera. Unfortunately, I'm just a guy that got medically retired from the military, not a film producer... I don't think my VA check could cover a commission, much *LESS* financing a film 😅😥🤦♂️🤷♂️
My only question is why cut the curve of the sword and not let it happen when you cool it in the traditional way? I watched a program where it was made in the old way, and I could be wrong, but I was just wondering.
I didn’t want the top half to be soft because it would make the Damascus look terrible when etched. The silver acts like a shock absorber. Thanks for watching.
Just wow! This was a very ambitious build and the results are amazing. I've watched you incorporate copper...but silver? Very ballsy. I can't stop looking at it. It might be the most beautiful katana I've ever seen.
I absolutely love your videos. This truly came out as a masterpiece and it seriously looks stunning. Thank you for making such an awesome thing to share with everyone on RUclips!
Absolutely beautiful, and you should be so proud to have such skills. We've all seen the traditional methods of Japanese katana forging, and it surely makes even you appreciate the time and craftsmanship that was required back then to produce such works of art. From a pure metallurgy standpoint, how do these modern methods stack up against the ancient swords as far as strength, sharpness, craftsmanship, etc? From using their rare tamahagane steel forging, to the clays, rolling the billet in traditional straw, carbon hardening, multiple folds, etc. etc. I'm sure they would have appreciated the hydraulic press, electric tempering ovens, but do you think their entire process and exactness produced a better sword than can be made even today? Thanks again for your astounding work!
What the Japanese excel at is craftsmanship and effort. Tamahagane is actually far inferior to today’s modern steel. It was “folded” so many times to remove the rampant impurities. Also, it wasn’t rare, just time consuming for that age. The steel coming out of the Middle East and India at that time was leagues ahead. The Japanese certainly did the best with what they had at the time. Thanks for watching.
@@TyrellKnifeworks no problem, forging and katanas are interesting to me, i thought the layering of the different metals and the exposing of the core steel for the edge was really cool
The way the gold shows in profile on the false edge is a really nice touch. Not a personal fan of the shape of the blade but for the purpose of bringing out the gold it was a fine choice. Well done sir!
To be completely honest I am not typically a huge fan of katanas, they are great swords but ya know not my thing. THIS sword on the other hand is absolutely gorgeous. The detailing the blade is phenomenal. One of my favorite swords design wise in quite a while. You really did a fantastic job here.
so glad your channel popped up into my feed yesterday. These are some of the coolest blade builds ive ever seen. Breathtaking!!!!! I can't believe anyone would have the nerve to criticize any of your methods. 😮

Now that's art at its finest. Great vision and final product. 👏
Thank you! Cheers!
Thanks for watching.
functional art! excellent craftsmanship! well done, sir!
Thanks for checking it out!
Finally, a katana forging video thats actual forging and not cutting/ machining metal only
Thanks for checking it out!
@@TyrellKnifeworks no problem, forging and katanas are interesting to me, i thought the layering of the different metals and the exposing of the core steel for the edge was really cool
Kind of sad you couldnt get the differential heating in though
Thats an effing gorgeous blade m8. Really loved watching your journey in making it. Keep up the awesome work man
Thanks for checking it out! ❤️
The facts that you made that yourself so well is amazing. Great work!
Thanks for taking a look!
@@TyrellKnifeworks thanks for posting!
The way the gold shows in profile on the false edge is a really nice touch. Not a personal fan of the shape of the blade but for the purpose of bringing out the gold it was a fine choice. Well done sir!
I'm assuming you were commenting on the gold damascus knife? Thanks for watching.
My god. What a stunning piece.
Thanks for taking a look!
To be completely honest I am not typically a huge fan of katanas, they are great swords but ya know not my thing. THIS sword on the other hand is absolutely gorgeous. The detailing the blade is phenomenal. One of my favorite swords design wise in quite a while. You really did a fantastic job here.
Thanks so much! I appreciate you checking it out. 👍
Absolutely breathtakingly beautiful. You, sir, are a master.
Thanks so much! I appreciate you taking a look.
God this sword looks amazing keep it up
Thanks for checking it out!
The oxide layer removing from when shaping the metal is so satisfying
I agree, it’s the best part. 😉 Thanks for watching.
Wonderful work! Magnificent katana!
Thank you! Cheers!
Love the extra explanations here! I've watched a bunch of your videos, but this one explains the process a lot better (IMHO)
Thanks for checking it out, Russ!
I really appreciated the video and all the steps on making this Katana. Wow, that Katana is a work of Art! Amazing!
Thanks for checking out this build, Neil!
so glad your channel popped up into my feed yesterday. These are some of the coolest blade builds ive ever seen. I dont think ive ever seen someone do this style of damascus before being the copper or silver around the core that youve been doing. How long have you been doing this because youve got some serious skill
This technique is relatively new in the past 3-4 years. I was probably the first to popularize it on YT. I’ve been a Bladesmith for about 5 years. Thanks for watching!
Beautiful work ! Thank you for the metric conversions that you print. It is much appreciated by your non American viewers.
Thanks for checking out this build!
great work Tyrell, love watching you forged those swords
Thanks for checking them out!
Absolutely stunning! Heirloom quality. To quote renowned archeologist Dr. Henry Jones, Jr.: "It belongs in a museum!"
Ha, thanks for checking it out!
That is a beautiful piece. Thank you for sharing it.
Thank you very much!
For a large portion of the time, I was thinking why? Then I saw the result. That’s why! Beautiful!!!
Thanks for tuning in!
One of the best builds that I've seen!
Thanks for taking a look!
Almost feel like honor demands such a blade should be a gift to the nation of Japan... 😮 Beautiful work, sir.
Ha, well this one is sold already, so no gift I’m afraid. 😉
Best looking Katana I've seen. Even in video games. It's sleek and the silver really pops. I'd love to have one of these so bad :(
Great work. Very very very well done.
Thanks for checking it out!
Seven generations before me were samurai. I think it's a very beautiful katana!!
