This is our trawler life story.
We retired early and decided to make a big change. We sold everything and moved aboard our 54' Cheoy Lee passagemaker, a “go anywhere in the world”, ocean going power boat. That was in 2014 and we have never looked back. Now in our late 50's we are free of work and we are living aboard and cruising our trawler full time.
Join us and our crew, on our adventures as we explore new places, discover more about our trawler and what makes her work, and learn more about ourselves in our young retirement years. Our hope is to entertain and inspire you to pursue your own passions through telling our story of our cruising trawler lifestyle.

Hello! I recently came across your channel and am enjoying it so far. I began watching at the refit and working forward from there. I’m sure it takes a considerable amount of time to record and edit each video so wanted you to know how much I enjoy and appreciate it. I live in the midwest so during the winter months I get my boating fix from RUclips, magazines, and online boating courses. Thank you and I hope you stay well and keep boating! My dream is to do the great loop in about 5 years....it takes way more than luck but a little good luck can go a long way so fingers crossed!

Purging the stuff was great for us. We really haven't missed anything. Now, when we need to vacuum the house, it takes about 5 minutes and it's done - we love it.

We proof the bread in the over. Rosy heats it up to about 100 degrees, turns off the oven, and puts it in. It seems to work well. I don't know if we are good enough cooks to do an episode on cooking, but we can show some more and touch base on what is different in our cooking, provisioning, etc, when cruising.

Took a sailing course with San Juan Sailing first week of June, they had most of those areas circled in red on their charts because they also charter their boat out. The hotel there in Roche Harbor has a lot of historical information in it also.
So excited to follow along on your cruise to Alaska this summer! Thank you so much for posting the fun videos. At some point could you show us how you deploy and retrieve your paravanes?
Yes we can. We have been meaning to film it both depolying and retrieving. It's been a learning curve but I think we are getting it figured out. Watch for it in an upcoming video.

Good video that shows perfectly what a great time you are having. May I just stick my head above the parapet and ‘venture’ that some of the looping music track is beginning to grate - which is not so ‘great’.😂
Clearly music selection isn't something within our skill set. We will work on it and/or just stick with what we can do and eliminate the music all together.

The software is Nobeltec Time Odyessy. The AIS input is from a Furuno 600 AIS recieving / transmitter, which we selected because it has a USB output that plugged directly in the PC. Nobeltec's website is. www.nobeltec.com

It’s so beautiful there, I wish I was with you guys. I’m a new boater and have a question. If you could only have one book onboard, besides chart books what book wouldn’t go down with the ship? Do you ever allow crew members?
The paravanes look like they are working really well. What was that little pilothouse sail boat next to y’all at the dock at Shoal Bay? It is a pretty boat!
Good eye! That small boat is a custom built boat that runs entirely on bio-diesel made from used cooking oil. No fossil fuels. It was featured on the cover of Passagemaker Magazine. The boat name is AMA Natura. You can find more info about the boat and their project at www.decarbthepassage.net

Hi, great content in your videos. Just resiliently subscribed to your channel so have not seen every posted video yet so I may not have found a info video of "Sea Venture" specs. like her make /model /size /age etc. Have you done a tour of the inside apart from the engine room which I did see, if not will you show us around. I also live in the Northwest "Sooke" on Vancouver Island BC Canada to be exact and enjoy seeing the area we call home from an others point of view. Keep up the outstanding video content...."no wind and flat seas"

Beyond the engine room tour, we have not down a complete boat tour. but are working on one, since so many people have ask.
Sea Venture is a 54' Cheoy Lee Long Range Trawler, built in 1977. She has a range of about 4,300 NM with 2158 gallons of diesel, 1,200 gallons of water, and a 300 gallon per day water maker. She weighs about 45 tons when fully loaded. She has cruised the Caribbean, South America, Mexico, the west coast and Alaska. We have about 9,100 hours on our Ford Lehmans and just recently passed the 60,000 NM mark of cruising. .When we do a tour we will need to include some more factual details. Until then, I'm happy to answer any questions.

could you explain how you clear customs via phone when entering Canada? I normally stop at Bedwell Harbor (Poet's Cove) when entering Canada, but would interested in learning how to clear customs by a simple phone call on board intead.

Sure. We have our Nexus Cards that allows for easy customs clearance. To get them you have to have an interview with customs. For boaters the trick is to schedule you interview in Blaine, WA. That way you can be interviewed by US Customs and then Canadian Customs and once completed, you do not need to stop going either direction and everything can be done by phone. I tried to look up a website to direct you too, but we are in Sitka and the internet connection is really slow so it's hard to do any google searches.
We crossing the border either way with Nexus Cards, everyone on board must have a Nexus Card. If you have guest, then you would still need to stop. But it works great.
If you travel much the Nexus Cards also gives you TSA Pre-check status and you can bypass the long customs lines when entering the US at the airport.
All around, it was well worth the time and effort.

Did we see a picture of your "fish" how large are they?
They are coming up in video, where we will show deploying and retrieving the "fish". The ones we are currently using are 28" diameter, and weigh 38 lbs. We can have a large size, but so far these seem to be working very well.
