Harry Wayne Casey aka "KC" and his Partner Rick Finch (The "Other White Guy) Wrote all of the Group's Hits. They also wrote "Rock Your Baby" by George McRae, "Spank & Dance Across The Floor" by Jimmy Bo Horne. They had a string of other hits like "That's The Way I Like It", Boogie Shoes, Shake Shake Shake (Shake Your Booty), and this Song. They previously recorded for TK Records (Named after the owner Terry Keane), but it went Bankrupt which was bought out by Rhino Records. KC's Songs are still popular all over the wrold in Movies like Boogie Nights, & Saturday Night Fever and Goldmember, it's also been featured in various Commercials like Burger King.
YOUNG BLOOD, AFTERR KC AND THE BANDS FIRST HIT NO ONE KNEW WHAT HE LOOKED LIKE. IN NEW YORK WE WENT TO SEE THEM AND FOUND THIS FUNKY GUY WAS WHITE. SO COOL.
Oh, KC. The voice of disco, they had so many hits, and almost all of them in the same tempo and key. Songs exclusively for dancing, and they were perfect for it. Brings back so many memories - yes, the bell-bottoms, Saturday nights at the disco. People would dress to the nines to go dancing - many sequins and rhinestones and gold chains. The 70's had a vibe all its own, that's for sure.
Ha - when I was in HS, our "squad" had a routine to "get down tonight" - but b/c cheerleaders were a bit jealous (I think)... somebody's Mom complained to the principal that the song was "suggestive" - so they said we couldn't dance to it... we were, of course, freaked b/c it was ONE day before we were supposed to perform... but luckily for us, our very cool 20-something coaches said.. "it's okay.. just do the routine to another song.." .. so we ended up dancing to KC's "That's the Way I like it" - which, hilariously, is actually MORE "suggestive" than the original selection... lol
@@TheDivayenta Yeah, the adults in the seventies just could not "get" disco/funk music - I remember how outraged my stepfather was when "Play that Funky Music" came on the radio and we teens were groovin' to - he turned it off and yelled at us, and said "I know what they're REALLY saying..." and we were all, "No, Dad -- Funky is an actual WORD..." but he just wasn't havin' it... lol
@@GinMae haha! Some jerk commenter on another channel was screaming how stupid I was because I said Lucy In the Sky was about a drawing Julian brought home. She was listing all the “drug “ references in the song. I told her it sounded like she did a lot of drugs in the day!

My schoolmates and I discovered that that whole batch of hits from them were based on the same tempo and key. So you can actually sing them all at the same time. We used to do that a capella and found the songs kind of dovetailed so it worked and wasn't just a noisy muddle. :D
Harry Wayne Casey (KC) was one of the most influential artists of the Disco Era along with CHIC, and The Bee Gee's. Casey also wrote many songs for other artists which became mega hits in their own right. You can't hear the word DISCO without thinking of KC and The Sunshine Band.
They used to call me the Rock/Disco boy. I had the best of both worlds. I played bass in a rock band and was part of a disco/dj . Does not get any better then that. Great time in my life.
You are listening to one of the greatest bands of the 70's. K C - SUNSHINE BAND, loving it. Danced many nights at clubs to this song and many other hits. Love it.
Here's another super fun disco classic you'll love - "Place That Funky Music, White Boy" by Wild Cherry. One of the best riffs ever, and a great energetic good time. :)
*TWON!* Other great KC & The Sunshine Band songs: *Keep It Comin' Love* and *Get Down Tonight* But you wanna turn up?! React to The Trammps' *Disco Inferno* !!! Be well and be great! Kenn 😎💪🏾✊🏽
I remember just getting exhausted listening/dancing to Kc and Sunshine when I was a teenager, love the funk, jive and the Fire! Peace thanx for the memories
Hell yeah Clubs in Kansas City were packed n so were dance floors.😁❤️great times everyone partying Together. ethnicities we're not a thing back then.we all had wonderful times👋👋👋👋
Today music is written to play to a certain group. The hip hop group. The heavy metal group. The classical group. The country group. In the 70's music was written to please anyone who liked good music. They weren't all worried about "genre" as much as music itself. Genre was recognized but it wasn't so monotonously defined as it is now. We have lost something very important about music from then to now and it sucks.
I grew up in Miami. My mother was a friend of KC’s and growing up he was everything in Miami! I was six when the song came out and I remember my mother hanging out with him for years
I love to see Black and White making incredible music together. It just warms my heart. I was 17 years old when this came out. Me and my friends loved KC but we thought he was Black. Back in the 70s you could go a long time without ever seeing what the band looked like.
This was just pure dance music back in the day, no deep thoughts just movin' and groovin'. Check out his greatest hits collection, it's just too much fun.
K.C. and the Sushine Band! Great dance group from the 70s. They had a lot of hits in the mid to late 70s. "Shake Your Booty", "That's The Way I Like It", and "Boogie Shoes" from the "Saturday Night Fever" Soundtrack were some of their best hits. You might want try Donna Summer's hits from the 70s as well. She was The Queen of Disco for good reason - she is as legend! Songs of hers to have a reaction to: Bad Girls; Hot Stuff; She Works Hard For The Money; On The Radio; MacArthur Park; Last Dance (for which she won an Oscar Award for Best Movie Song of the Year); and Love To Love You, Baby. Other fabulous groups from the 70s are the Bee Gees (try "You Should Be Dancing (an absolutely incredible song!)"; "Tragedy", and "Staying Alive". Other superstars from the 70s you should react to is Earth, Wind, and Fire (try "Shining Star"; "Boogie Wonderland"; "September"; and That's The Way of the World". Also try George Clinton's "Atomic Dog"; and Patty LaBelle & LaBelle's ultra legendary song, "Lady Marmalade"! Love your show! Your reactions are honest, entertaining, and great!
I was 4 years old when this song came out. My parents told me I liked to get down, 45 years later, I can still get down, but somebody will have to help get my older, fat, out of shape, ass up. 😂
Dude it hasn't been that many yrs back you could go to any bar , be it country , rock. Blues . This tune comes on and everybody and there brother would be on the floor by the end of it ....
One of the best things about 70’s music is the fact they used a lot of other instruments. If you like that type of music check out Tower of Power or early Chicago!
You were never sitting down when this song came on. They had several hits in the late 70's. Just fun, kicking grooves.
no matter where you were!
Line dancing in platform shoes.
Glad I grew up in the 70's when blacks and whites made great music together!
The lead singer is Harry Casey. The band was formed in Florida, the Sunshine State, hence KC and the Sunshine Band.

When there was a band with horn section and moving to the music , we called it a "review". James Brown had his, Sam and Dave and many others did too.

One of the great 70's horn lines.
