Dorian had IMO the best calves of any Mr O. They were phenomenal and something to behold. Not mentioned enough. Arnold had amazing calves too. But Dorians were freakishly developed.

His back and legs were on a different level - in terms of size, density and conditioning - to. just about anyone else. It's a crime Flex doesn't have an O, though. I never bought into Coleman's physique - hugely impressive but always looked bloated and cartoonish to me and had a bubble gut sometimes. I put these two above him personally.....one changed the game and the other may just be the peak of aestheticism.

Higher image quality would make this much easier to see why Dorian won. You get a hint of the muscle grainy East from these shots but a higher resolution would make it clear.
Look at this level it’s not like one is better than another it’s really just a subjective call like when comparing great art, sculpture or architecture. Also comparison during the 1/4 turns is helpful and useful comparisons of ratios like the shoulder to waist ratio should also be considered.
Both were amazing that year. Totally two different types of bodybuilder. But long story short, Dorian with his size and Granite shredded to the bone look just "kills" the competition. Flex wheeler himself said, just like Kevin levrone too, that Granite look of Dorian his huge muscles and definition were on another level.... especially 1993

Flex body flows really well, incredible aesthetics and proportions. Dorian has that freaky conditioning that someone so big can come in so shredded. Time and time again people who get too big can't shred. To this day very few people have matched Dorian's size and condition. Props to Flex but Dorian had the champion attitude, you can see it in his face when he poses he already knows he's won, look at the other competitors they all look at Dorian pose lmao
From the back Dorian was the most impressive dude. He was grainy and hard like a granite statue, he had 3D thickness and detail as well as Christmas tree and them wide and low lats. He had striated glutes, good hams and great calves. His arms were not the best, but his delts looked good from the back. As soon as they turned their backs to the audience, it was game over. His upper arms, delts and chest were nothing special. Forearms were good. Quads were good, but not the best. With his conditioning, complete package and great back, he deserved at least 5 of his 6 Sandows, the most controversial being his last victory... as it is for many champs.
It's so difficult to judge. I honestly think Flex is better as a bodybuilder by all the standards. But Dorian had this hardness look I still don't think has been duplicated to this day. It looked other-wordly and that really set him apart. Every time he won I wondered if he should have, yet every competition I couldn't take my eyes off him.
I always felt like Dorian was an evolved form of Rich Gaspari. With both of those guys, the sum of the parts was always greater than the whole. When Dorian's various muscle groups were compared separately to his competitors, Dorian usually won, but there was always a problem with how they were put together on his frame. Dorian's physique always struck me as a collection of great muscles that just didn't "go together" when looked at from a distance. With Flex, the opposite was often true.
Dorian has a better back and legs but Flex has better everything else. I would have given this to Flex, more symmetry, more aesthetically pleasing and overall just a better look.

Guess you didn't watch the video. Yates from the rear blows everyone away...striated glutes and crazy conditioned hams..Flex couldn't touch that. Yates's calves even matched the size of his arms. His Christmas tree was reminiscent of Samir Bannout. From the front his lat spread also blows everyone away.. Flex would have had to match Dorian in the wheels dept as well...He had striated quads over Dorian but his hams, glutes and calves were no match here. Even Flex, himself does not dispute this Mr.O.

Check out 1:45. Dorian is dwarfing Flex in this shot because he's so much wider. A side by side comparison of these two in the back double bi would exacerbate this difference tremendously since Dorian was so dominant from the back. You're also mistaking quality and density. Flex did have better muscle quality, but his density was inferior to Yates because Yates filled out his frame with so much more muscle at a better condition too.
Flex can't win with these hamstrings and glutes against Dorian, and he seriously needed more size in his wheels. I'm probably the biggest fan of Flex, and would choose aesthetics over mass any day, but in bodybuilding, it's not all about aesthetics.

Look at 3:57 then 4:45 then 5:40 and tell me that Yates dwarfing Flex is an illusion. Flex was literally 225. That level of a weight difference shows on stage. Flex with about 10 more pounds or quality mass and a bit sharper hamstrings and glutes would take it from Dorian no questions asked though. In his current state though, he was smaller AND less conditioned. Otherwise Flex would thrash someone who was genetically inferior like Yates.
I think flex definitely won the side chest. Paus at 2:58 and you can see that dorians shoulders looks really unimpressive as well as his arms, legs and traps.

I would not have given Dorian Yates the side chest pose even if his chest was wider flex had more striations and his chest was sticking out more meaning more thickness. Not to mention he had the better shoulders and arms to go along with it.
The lat spread comparison I would give to Dorian but if you are talking overall impression I would I would give to to Flex. Why because Flex has everything in this pose, aesthetics, conditioning and balance, everything just flows so much better than Dorian. Dorian has bottom heavy thighs and his conditioning is not as good as Flex, in fact in this pose every body part is better than Dorian`s except Lats.

His side tricep is arguably the best ever, you can just compare with others his density and conditioning. Back double bicep flex could not touch him, reason being the fullness of the back, being the lower back, his traps extended literally down till his lower back something i have never seen anywhere else. The muscle on his frame was so grainy it looked like stone. Dorian had better overall legs than flex, hamstrings, and calves which again are some of the best ever. Another body part dorian beat flex was in the forearms which measured up to 18inches,again some of the best. For flex's credit, he was extremely aesthetic and had an amazing front double bicep, imo the best that year. His abs and thigh was unrivalled until shawn rhoden recently won the olympia. The most muscular however is a close call. From these two poses alone flex could not win the olympia. He himself said that dorian deserved the win. Each pose looks at a group of muscles, sure aesthetics play a part but only to an extent. Aesthetics would be very important in the relaxed poses. Flex's physique might have flowed better but most of dorian's body parts were much more developed and dense than flex

Dorian wins, he has better defintion in harmstrings, he has better calves. Flex's arms are sus, probably synthol abuse. Lats in Flex specially in the front double biceps pose aren't open very well. Yeah sure, Flex is more aesthetics, but Dorian is much better for my opinion. And also Flex's glutes are soft.
Wonder if after Lee henny flex brought peeled conditioning and was winning shows also Kevin and shown ray. Then bodybuilding would have never been about big guts
Only reason flex lost is because he wasn't as crisp! Dialed in another 5-10%... it's over. And sometimes, flex wasn't big enough. Before his last couple of Olympias his max weight was under 230! At 5'10. Several times he should up 220 or slightly under.. illusion
It was just the last 2 years when Dorian started falling apart with his hard ASSEMBLE training methods but that's what made him the champion he was incredible body builder
closest Mr. O in history imho. Dorian by a single point I think because he was harder. This was Dorian's best year and he needed it because Flex was right there with him. Dorian wins from the back and side and Flex mostly from the front.
Dorian didn't have one of the best backs in bodybuilding. Wide late, yeah. But, his genetics never allowed the development of the lats under his traps. Ronnie's was better, heath, Haney, Columbo, Quinn, all had a better back development. Dorian was just wider but not better. quality over all. Stevie wonder can easily see that. I just seen flex this year in Columbus Ohio at the Arnold classic. He lost his leg but had good spirits. I was speaking to Lee Haney when flex walked up. Amazing. I got two pics and autograph of two legonds at one time.

Guess you didn't watch the video. Yates from the rear blows everyone away...striated glutes and crazy conditioned hams..Flex couldn't touch that. Yates's calves even matched the size of his arms. His Christmas tree was reminiscent of Samir Bannout. From the front his lat spread also blows everyone away.. Flex would have had to match Dorian in the wheels dept as well...He had striated quads over Dorian but his hams, glutes and calves were no match here. Even Flex, himself does not dispute this Mr.O.

Check out 1:45. Dorian is dwarfing Flex in this shot because he's so much wider. A side by side comparison of these two in the back double bi would exacerbate this difference tremendously since Dorian was so dominant from the back. You're also mistaking quality and density. Flex did have better muscle quality, but his density was inferior to Yates because Yates filled out his frame with so much more muscle at a better condition too.
Flex can't win with these hamstrings and glutes against Dorian, and he seriously needed more size in his wheels. I'm probably the biggest fan of Flex, and would choose aesthetics over mass any day, but in bodybuilding, it's not all about aesthetics.

Look at 3:57 then 4:45 then 5:40 and tell me that Yates dwarfing Flex is an illusion. Flex was literally 225. That level of a weight difference shows on stage. Flex with about 10 more pounds or quality mass and a bit sharper hamstrings and glutes would take it from Dorian no questions asked though. In his current state though, he was smaller AND less conditioned. Otherwise Flex would thrash someone who was genetically inferior like Yates.

I think flex definitely won the side chest. Paus at 2:58 and you can see that dorians shoulders looks really unimpressive as well as his arms, legs and traps.
But Dorian's chest was better and his pose was better. Flex shoulders are a bit inclined forward.

Dorian yates was in a class of his own during his reign. Flex had a more pleasing physique though. He was more even.

I would not have given Dorian Yates the side chest pose even if his chest was wider flex had more striations and his chest was sticking out more meaning more thickness. Not to mention he had the better shoulders and arms to go along with it.
Dorian winning any side chest is laughable. His pecs look so small in that pose.

The lat spread comparison I would give to Dorian but if you are talking overall impression I would I would give to to Flex. Why because Flex has everything in this pose, aesthetics, conditioning and balance, everything just flows so much better than Dorian. Dorian has bottom heavy thighs and his conditioning is not as good as Flex, in fact in this pose every body part is better than Dorian`s except Lats.
@Scott DuPont Incorrect? That`s your opinion. And I say you`re incorrect, that`s my opinion and if you read my post above correctly you would see I mentioned the lat spread only and not other poses. Look at the vid at 1:54 and it`s clear that Flex is better in this photo than Dorian, not at every pose but in this one he is flawless.

@@mossimmo1271 Bodybuilding is very subjective but you cannot deny that dorian won other poses. His side tricep is arguably the best ever, you can just compare with others his density and conditioning. Back double bicep flex could not touch him, reason being the fullness of the back, being the lower back, his traps extended literally down till his lower back something i have never seen anywhere else. The muscle on his frame was so grainy it looked like stone. Dorian had better overall legs than flex, hamstrings, and calves which again are some of the best ever. Another body part dorian beat flex was in the forearms which measured up to 18inches,again some of the best. For flex's credit, he was extremely aesthetic and had an amazing front double bicep, imo the best that year. His abs and thigh was unrivalled until shawn rhoden recently won the olympia. The most muscular however is a close call. From these two poses alone flex could not win the olympia. He himself said that dorian deserved the win. Each pose looks at a group of muscles, sure aesthetics play a part but only to an extent. Aesthetics would be very important in the relaxed poses. Flex's physique might have flowed better but most of dorian's body parts were much more developed and dense than flex

Wrong right out of the gate. Wheeler’s are are not superior in mass and the forearms are half the package. The shoulder tie ins on Wheels as well miss the mark.

Dorian wins, he has better defintion in harmstrings, he has better calves. Flex's arms are sus, probably synthol abuse. Lats in Flex specially in the front double biceps pose aren't open very well. Yeah sure, Flex is more aesthetics, but Dorian is much better for my opinion. And also Flex's glutes are soft.

Only reason flex lost is because he wasn't as crisp! Dialed in another 5-10%... it's over. And sometimes, flex wasn't big enough. Before his last couple of Olympias his max weight was under 230! At 5'10. Several times he should up 220 or slightly under.. illusion

It was just the last 2 years when Dorian started falling apart with his hard ASSEMBLE training methods but that's what made him the champion he was incredible body builder

Dorian didn't have one of the best backs in bodybuilding. Wide late, yeah. But, his genetics never allowed the development of the lats under his traps. Ronnie's was better, heath, Haney, Columbo, Quinn, all had a better back development. Dorian was just wider but not better. quality over all. Stevie wonder can easily see that. I just seen flex this year in Columbus Ohio at the Arnold classic. He lost his leg but had good spirits. I was speaking to Lee Haney when flex walked up. Amazing. I got two pics and autograph of two legonds at one time.
