I can't think of a list off the top of my head but my favorites are all Finnish. Satanic Warmaster, Archgoat, Impaled Nazarene, Beherit, Behexen, Horna, etc.
Razor has said that he will do one. I think in one of his live-streams, he said that he is enthusiastic about it. I hope it comes before his Marduk and Alice Cooper mythos. (Those two will be LONG!) I’m curious which records after Black Metal are worth owning.
Razorfist you magnificent bastard, thank you for making this video and introducing me to the black metal majesty that is Inquisition. I picked up Nefarious Dismal Orations after watching this video and was totally blown away. Metal/Music mythos might be my favorite video series from you because you're introducing me to some really badass music. I bow to you. BTW, could we possibly look forward to an Immortal mythos at some point? After getting into black metal via your Darkthrone vid from a few years back, Immortal have become possibly my 2nd fav behind Bathory themselves. *crosses fingers*
My top 6: Darkthrone - A Blaze In The Northern sky Arckanum - Kostogher Bathory - The Return... Hellhammer - Satanic Rites Sepultura - Bestial Devastation Kreator - Endless Pain
I don't even like metal, much less black metal. But damn Razorfist knows how to sell it and make me want to like it. Might pop some of those in next time I''m playing DOOM.
M. G I've always been more into death metal, being a chubby southern walking stereotype, but I've been getting into black metal the past five years. It's totally worth it
I can't stand grunting. I want my vocalists to sound like they're actually singing, not somehow managing to croak their way through the world's most painful pneumonia. But, yeah, same deal. I fucking love black metal instrumentals. Can't stand anything with grunt-pocalypse vocals.
Nice list mine is Mayhem De Mysteriis Dom sathanas, Emperor Anthems to the welkins at dusk, Darkthrone Transilvanian hunger, Dissection storm of the lights bane, Watain Trident wolf eclipse, Immortal Battles in the north
That was far more mature and informative content, than I expected. :) Ex-BM fan here, now I'm more a pianist, but still like to hear good music, when it's good. While I like soft sounds of Immortal (both new and old), Summoning, or Edge of Sanity, I still found The Return as awesome as I first heard it.
Razorfist thank you for making videos like these! You made me discover and rediscover many black metal bands. It would be awesome if you could do some more black metal themed videos.
I like finding new bands in your videos. You dislike some of the BM bands that I found to enjoy but thats okay. You still have quality taste and knowledge of the genre and I respect the hell out of it.
Razörfist should be a metal musicologist. These mythos videos are more informative and certainly more entertaining than any scholarship I read in music school.
If I had to rank my top 5, it would be: 5) Inquisition - Ominous Doctrines of the Perpetual Mystical Macrocosm 4) Bathory - Blood Fire Death 3) Melechesh - Emissaries 2) Dissection - Storm of the Light's Bane 1) Rotting Christ - Triarchy of the Lost Lovers Melechesh and Rotting Christ are kind of their own thing, their sound is extremely different to other black metal bands, mixing in folk elements and Greek/middle eastern oriental music, but the riffs and melodies are blowing my mind.
My personal chart: 6) Satyricon - Nemesis divina 5) Ulver - Bergtatt 4) Burzum - Hvis lyset tar oss 3) Bathory - Blood fire death 2) Venom - Black metal 1) Emperor - In the nightside eclipse
Having now gotten into Black Metal, I’ve got to add my personal favorites. 6. Temple of Abraxas “Temples Forlorn” 5. Kanonenfieber “Menschenmühle” 4. Minenwerfer “Alpenpässe” 3. The Gauntlet “Dark Steel and Fire” 2. Immortal “Sons of Northern Darkness” 1. Bathory “Blood Fire Death” Apologies for the paragraphs. I was introduced to Black Metal through Alpenpässe. I was initially more interested in the theme of the album than the music itself, that theme being World War One. And while I more than enjoy the music now, I still like that theme, hence Kanonfieber’s inclusion here. Immortal is one of my favorite bands, and Sons of Northern Darkness is probably their best album, the last 4 tracks make it perfect. Bathory is and always will be legendary, and Blood Fire Death is my favorite black metal release of theirs(Nordland is their best though). The Gauntlet and Temple of Abraxas are both new bands. The Gauntlet sounds like Under the Sign/Blood Fire Death era Bathory. Temple of Abraxas kinda does their own thing but it’s very atmospheric and excellent all around. I find myself whistling the intro track to Temples Forlorn all the time.
I knew Bathory was going to be there .... for me though it is Blood Fire Death and my fav song is For those who died. Nice to hear that your favorite genre is Black metal its is mine too \m/ (ANd I do like all of it , even the more "comercial" Dimmu Borgir and Cradle of fith , but Im too lenient in my tastes)
I love all those albums, but here's my (probably controversial) list 6. Dimmu-Stormblast 5. Carpathian Forest- Morbid fascinations of Death 4. Nachtimystium - Silencing Machine 3.Immortal - At the heart of winter 2. Gorgoroth -Under the sign of hell 1. Taake - Noregs vaapen
Thank you so much for highlighting the greatness that which is Inquisition. I was begging banger tv to do a review of Inquisition's latest release since August 2016 but they paid me no mind.
I prefer 1st Wave of BM. Venom, Bathory, Sarcófago, Early Destruction, Early Sodom, Blasphemy, Mystifier, Hellhammer, Celtic Frost, Early Sepultura ect.
just wanna say Mr razor fist I'm 43 years old and first time watcher of your shit. its a bout fuckin time some one understands black metal. I personally own 4 of your recommendations and am exited to try the other 2
my top 6: 1)Watain: Sworn to the Dark. 2)Inquisition: Bloodshed Across the Empyrean Altar Beyond the Celestial Zenith. 3)Forgotten Tomb: Songs to Leave. 4)Young and in the Way: When Life Comes to Death. 5)Mayhem: Deathcrush. I'm going to see Mayhem and Inquisition next year. I'm stoked! If anyone has any band recommendations let me know.
I just wanted to bring up that the riff for "Born For Burning" and the riff for "Don't Burn The Witch" are almost identical, am I the only one who hears this?
I don't think he can. He refuses to review live albums (except Live After Death), but how the hell do you do a proper Mayhem Mythos without reviewing Live In Leipzig?
I would love this, But he seems to do only do full length lps. You would have to include death crush, live in Leipzig, dawn of the black hearts. Then you have pure fucking Armageddon, live in leitz and others. I'd love all included but if doubt it
Been blasting Abigor for ages now so i'm happy to see it on the list, also got into Bergtatt by Ulver not too long ago and it's amazing black metal in its own way
I am surprised that Under the Sign of Hell and Transylvania Hunger did not make your list. I agree with the rest of it Your top two are undeniable, with Venom and fucking Bathory.
Just found your channel, and I'm so impressed. Nice work. Keep it up. The world needs more examples of well spoken individuals pitching hate and anger.
Props for picking The Return..., that album is kinda underrated My list: 1. Bathory - Under the Sign of the Black Mark 2. Ulver - Nattens Madrigal (before their music became weird) 3. Enslaved - Frost 4. Satyricon - Nemesis Divina (was close to picking Dark Medieval Times over this) 5. Immortal - Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism 6. Venom - Black Metal Honourable mentions: Taake - Hordalands Doedskvad Emperor - In the Nightside Eclipse Windir - 1184 *I have to be a little biased here towards my own country, but anyway Countess - Heilig Vuur
Top 5 5 - Burzum (Burzum) 4 - In The Nightside Eclipse (Emperor) 3 - Under The Sign Of The Black Mark (Bathory) 2 - Sons Of Northern Darkness (Immortal) 1 - De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas (Mayhem)
Though it will probably change in the future but for right now i would say. 6 Under the Sing of the Black Mark (Battory) 5 Transilvanian Hunger (Darkthrone) 4 Hellfire 1349 3 Enthrone Darkness Triumphant (Dimmu Borgir) 2 Nocturnal Poisoning (Xasthur) 1 Nattens Madrigal (Ulver)
Mgla - Exercises In Futility Batushka - Litourgiya Urfaust - Trubadoiri Olta an Diabhail (one of the best live black metal albums out there) Satanic Warmaster - Carelian Satanist Madness Sargeist - Let the Devil in Mutiilation - Remains of a Ruined, Dead, Cursed Soul. Man, could do a hundred more... Black Metal is my favorite genre too...
More of a Death Metalhead here (I only wear my digital camo sweatpants around the house though, I swear), but my top 6 would look something like this: Venom - At War with Satan Sodom - In the Sign of Evil Bathory - Blood Fire Death Blasphemy - Fallen Angel of Doom Satyricon - Dark Medieval Times Rotting Christ- Thy Mighy Contract
The debuts from the Teutonic heavy hitters (Sodom, Destruction and Kreator) could easily be classified as 1st wave or proto black metal, but are also considered thrash. Nerdy, restrictive sub genre classifications were less of a thing back then. At any rate, I'll take any of those records over most of the Norwegian bands any day.
My list, in no particular order: Immortal - Sons of Northern Darkness Dimmu Borgir - Death Cult Armageddon Watain - Sworn to the Dark Sepeltura - Morbid Visions (blow me, it's black metal!) Marduk - Serpent Sermon 1349 - Revelations of the Black Flame Honorable mentions: Goatwhore - Carving Out the Eyes of God God Seed - I Begin Black Anvil - Triumvirate Abbath - Abbath
It's a hard list to top, but this would probably be my personal top 6, ranked in no personal order, just listing favorites. 6. Mercyful Fate - Don't Break the Oath. While it leans more towards heavy metal than black metal, it's an album is masterful in every way, from Hank Sherman's killer riffs to King Diamonds shrilling falsetto makes this a memorable album. Even while typing this, I have "A Dangerous Meeting" looping in my head. Melissa was a close contender, but Don't Break the Oath is just a cunt hair better than the previous album. 5. Bathory - Bathory. While "The Return......" solidifies the sound of early Bathory, the first album in my opinion captures the raw essence of the first wave of Black Metal. Right from off the bat your hit with "Hades" "Reaper" "Necromancy" and so on and so on. The first Bathory album is quite literally all killer no filler. 4. Mayhem - De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas. A band that has me asking so many "what if's." Mostly a "what if Varg didn't kill Euronymous." This album has some killer and catchy riffs that just makes me wish we could've gotten more from E. Needless to say, tracks like "Freezing Moon" and "Life Eternal" are superb tracks within themselves and after listening to this album, I am starting to see why so many bands have "A Tribute to Euronymous" on some of there albums. 3. Darkthrone - A Blaze in the Northern Sky. Honestly, theres nothing I can really say that you haven't said before in your Mythos of the band in question. The cold sound of this album starting with a haunting chant in "Kathaarian Life Code" to the rest of the fucking album is defiantly a no brainer. You said it best, mandatory Black Metal indeed. 2. Immortal - At the Heart of Winter. This is the album where I believe Immortal had found their sound. As far as I can tell, theres no weak track on this record, and is a great starting point for anyone even trying to get into Black Metal. As of Jan of 2017, Demonaz of the band has stated they are recording a new album this year, so from the sounds of this Immortal is possibly still going strong. The former singer Abbath has also recorded a solo album, but honestly, it pales in comparison to the majesty of the older Immortal discography. Also Queen of Hell is playing Bass for Abbath. I suppose people who try to steal bands tend to stick together. 1. Gorgoroth - Pentagram and Antichrist. A motherfucking tie with this last pick. The band itself is the first thing I think of when I think Black metal. In fact, fuck it. It's my list, I'll do what I want. NEW 1. Gorgoroth - Pentagram, Antichrist, Under the Sign of Hell, and Quantos Possunt ad Satanitatem Trahunt. FOUR WAY TIE CUNT. My absolute favorite Black Metal band, can't really say much more without doing my best Sapkowski impersonation and plagiarizing the Gorgoroth Mythos. These abums in my opinion are literally masterful and have nary a fault with any of them, and I recommend any of those albums to anyone. And yea, thats my top 6 Black Metal albums that I could think of off the top of my head.
Thank you rageaholic!, haven't watched the video yet but I can't wait to do so. Before I watch this video I have to say my favorite black metal bands are, burzum, darkthrone, mayhem and old satyricon. My favorite black metal album is "under a funeral moon" by Darkthrone.
I am a very late bloomer in terms of Black Metal. The Age of Nero by SATYRICON was the first BM album I heard. They are still my favourite Black Metal band, and that is still my favourite album by them. So, to make things interesting, my list will not contain any Norwegian releases, as my Norwegian favourites are standard classics anyway. TERRA AUSTRALIS - Slave to the Moon-Shadow ADAMUS EXUL - Death, Paint a Vision THRALL - Away from the Haunts of Man ORACLE OF THE VOID - Further Steps to a Perfect World NIGHTBRINGER - Death and the Black Work MARDUK - Wormwood
The return is also my favorite bathory record. Finally someone else gives it some love, everyone I know always says Under the sign is their favorite bathory record. (Don't get me wrong though, it's an amazing album too)
a little late to the party here but my 6 are: 6 Darkthrone - A Blaze in the Northern Sky 5 Satanic Warmaster - Fimbulwinter 4 Gorgoroth - Quantos Possunt Ad Satanitatem Trahunt 3 Bathory - Bathory 2 Venom - Welcom To Hell 1 Immortal - Pure Holocaust
Holy fuck man, I´m so glad Abigor is on the list! They have been one of my favourites since I was a kid but for some weird fucking reason, it seems they never quite got the recognition they deserved. Amazing band!
Not a big fan of Black Metal, but found this really informative and your enthusiasm shines right through... any chance of a Mythos Top 6 for Doom Metal in the future?
IWALVG No worries man. Illusions of evil was my favorite album. And Jesus wept was great too. Imprint had a few good songs and Lust went off in a completely different direction. Still good though.
Thanks a lot for this. I love discovering bands I missed out on with samples and opinions etc. I'm 42 and still going strong ha ha! I'm into pretty much everything that I gauge you're on that same plain. I heard Judas Iscariot , looked it up on youtube & couldn't order it fast enough directly from the label. Thanks to you & other youtube channels I've been finding "old/new" "new/old" stuff to listen too.
So, I have this tale that Razorfist and some others here may find enjoyable... In middle school (8th grade) my best friend's parents owned a funeral home. He and I used to do some funny frolicking within it after school and in the chapel there was a tape player that was used to play the music for funeral services and so on. We had gone to the local mall record store and bought "The Return" on cassette the week it arrived there as we were already huge Bathory fans from the first album. After school one day we were listening to it in the chapel sound system and his dad comes in all pissed because we were playing metal in there so we left but dude forgot to take the tape out.... Later that evening there was a receiving... The priest saw a tape in the player and pressed play with a chapel full of mourners. The rest you can figure out. Hail Bathory and the best Black Metal album of all time 666
Your list is evil; I like it. I've been meaning to check out Abigor for years, but never got around to it. They sound sick af in your video. Good to see Venom finally getting the love they deserve. A Venom mythos now, please.
Bathory and Celtic frost changed my life in the mid eighties
Cool
No they didn't
Razor, if I may say, you are the reason why I now appreciate Black Metal.
The kvlt scouting party is closely monitoring this comments section to ensure nobody ever mentions Cradle of Filth.

Haunted Shores > Your favorite Black Metal song. Any track with a guest appearance by Cronos is inherently kvlt by default.
I like myself some CoF but this isn't the time and place to talk about it.

4. Transilvanian Hunger - Darkthrone
3. Tenth Sub Level of Suicide - Leviathan (Very Underrated!)
2. Storm of the Lights Bane - Dissection
1. Blood Fire Death - Bathory
Watain is to new to be that classic, still really good tho
Lawless Darkness is one solid album.
Blood Fire Death isn't black metal. But any of Bathory's first three albums could make the list.
Fuck yeah, awesome list
Tenth Sub Level of Suicide - I love that album
Venom were there before ANY of them, like it or not, like them or not.
They have a blackened edge but their not black metal.
venom is not black metal

kinetikgaming tol compt norz norz norz to this day in my opinion the most satanic sound I’ve heard
Metal Mythos: Venom. Make it happen!
Venom sucks!
No! Venom is ass
Razor has said that he will do one. I think in one of his live-streams, he said that he is enthusiastic about it. I hope it comes before his Marduk and Alice Cooper mythos. (Those two will be LONG!) I’m curious which records after Black Metal are worth owning.
@Metal Head You Like Bathory's self entitled and not Venom?
@@outis439-A Well its not my favorite bathory album but the artwork is awesome and its much better than venom
My top 6:
Darkthrone - A Blaze In The Northern sky
Arckanum - Kostogher
Bathory - The Return...
Hellhammer - Satanic Rites
Sepultura - Bestial Devastation
Kreator - Endless Pain
Sepultura and Kreator are Thrash / Death.
Loved to see Inquisition on the list. They're a grossly underrated band.
Arguably the best Black Metal band today
@@rifleman1002 And also a full blown pedophile…..👎
I don't even like metal, much less black metal. But damn Razorfist knows how to sell it and make me want to like it. Might pop some of those in next time I''m playing DOOM.
M. G I've always been more into death metal, being a chubby southern walking stereotype, but I've been getting into black metal the past five years. It's totally worth it
M. G I've been hooked ever since his Metal Mythos of Gorgoroth.
I can't stand grunting. I want my vocalists to sound like they're actually singing, not somehow managing to croak their way through the world's most painful pneumonia. But, yeah, same deal. I fucking love black metal instrumentals. Can't stand anything with grunt-pocalypse vocals.
M. G Same. Just his way with words get my 3 inch chub throbbing. Especially his insult rants, can't get enough, best speaker on RUclips.
M. G Peace Sell but Who's Buying is also a good album to play doom to.
Nice list mine is Mayhem De Mysteriis Dom sathanas, Emperor Anthems to the welkins at dusk, Darkthrone Transilvanian hunger, Dissection storm of the lights bane, Watain Trident wolf eclipse, Immortal Battles in the north
The Return is cool and all, but it's no Under The Sign Of The Black Mark
dude i got to see Mayhem and Inquisition live this past week and it was an experience i will never forget.
Im more of a Nachthymnen guy myself but I was ELATED to see Abigor get some love. They are beyond underrated.
under the sign of the black mark is the best bathory album
The Mule absolutely. With no question
Agreed, requiem is fucking awesome too, as a thrash guy
Hammerheart is my fave
Self titled is my favorite the return is second imo.
The Retirn has such a sinister sound though
MERCYFUL FATE QUINTESSENTIAL MASTERPIECES: MELISSA and DON'T BREAK THE OATH. FLAWLESS.
Grand Belial's Key has some great albums. Judeobeast Assassination in particular.
Razorfist thank you for making videos like these! You made me discover and rediscover many black metal bands. It would be awesome if you could do some more black metal themed videos.
That inquisition album just blew my mind...
Finally someone shows Venom the respect they deserve!
Glad to see you included Horna's EESE album. Absolutely incredible black metal.
An Inquisition episode would rule
you had me at " Bathory , the band every band namechecks but no-one sounds like ." (also hell hammer)
cheers!
This guy sure does know how to make a video interesting, what a guy
I like finding new bands in your videos. You dislike some of the BM bands that I found to enjoy but thats okay. You still have quality taste and knowledge of the genre and I respect the hell out of it.
Razörfist should be a metal musicologist. These mythos videos are more informative and certainly more entertaining than any scholarship I read in music school.
If I had to rank my top 5, it would be:
5) Inquisition - Ominous Doctrines of the Perpetual Mystical Macrocosm
4) Bathory - Blood Fire Death
3) Melechesh - Emissaries
2) Dissection - Storm of the Light's Bane
1) Rotting Christ - Triarchy of the Lost Lovers
Melechesh and Rotting Christ are kind of their own thing, their sound is extremely different to other black metal bands, mixing in folk elements and Greek/middle eastern oriental music, but the riffs and melodies are blowing my mind.
5:Transilvanian Hunger, Darkthrone
4:Rise of Satanic Might, Cruel Force
3:Black Thrash Attack, Aura Noir
2:Bathory, Bathory
1:Thy Mighty Contract, Rotting Christ.
My personal chart:
6) Satyricon - Nemesis divina
5) Ulver - Bergtatt
4) Burzum - Hvis lyset tar oss
3) Bathory - Blood fire death
2) Venom - Black metal
1) Emperor - In the nightside eclipse
Bergtatt!
DARKTHRONE?
Nice I love that Burzum album as well it’s a masterpiece
Having now gotten into Black Metal, I’ve got to add my personal favorites.
6. Temple of Abraxas “Temples Forlorn”
5. Kanonenfieber “Menschenmühle”
4. Minenwerfer “Alpenpässe”
3. The Gauntlet “Dark Steel and Fire”
2. Immortal “Sons of Northern Darkness”
1. Bathory “Blood Fire Death”
Apologies for the paragraphs.
I find myself whistling the intro track to Temples Forlorn all the time.
some band suggestions: Dawn, Borknagar, Horna, Impaled Nazarene, Grand Belial’s Key, Vinterland, Dissection, Obtained Enslavement, caladan brood (sounds like summoning), Deathspell omega, Absu, Windir, Sargeist, Odium, Véhémence
This video helped me find more black metal bands I never heard of. Kudos Razor
>Banger TV
They're fucking garbage.
Sabol Kralj I would have to agree with you after seeing their top albums of 2016.
I devastation Have you seen the video Razor ranted about? It's also quite terrible.
Yes I have
I devastation banger sux.
Windir - 1184
Satyricon - Dark Medieval TImes
Horde - Hellig usvart
Celtic Frost - To Mega Therion
Dimmu Borgir - For all tid
would you consider doing a metal mythos for Mayhem?
or Death?
I don't think he can. He refuses to review live albums (except Live After Death), but how the hell do you do a proper Mayhem Mythos without reviewing Live In Leipzig?
The Black Lord Of Fenrir Or Dawn of the Black Hearts? Probably the most notorious bootleg ever
I would love this, But he seems to do only do full length lps. You would have to include death crush, live in Leipzig, dawn of the black hearts. Then you have pure fucking Armageddon, live in leitz and others. I'd love all included but if doubt it
Only one album matters with mayhem. De mysterious Dom sarhanas
Thief 2 and Doom in the background! This man has taste beyond music.
As Fenriz would spell it, Ba-l-hory,Necroholocaust,Black Feast as well as Battle Dagorath along with Drowning The Light are good too.
Been blasting Abigor for ages now so i'm happy to see it on the list, also got into Bergtatt by Ulver not too long ago and it's amazing black metal in its own way
Bergtatt to me is the perfect album to listen to while walking through the woods
Amazing album that that transcends multiple genres
I am surprised that Under the Sign of Hell and Transylvania Hunger did not make your list. I agree with the rest of it Your top two are undeniable, with Venom and fucking Bathory.
Schizoid has gotta be my favourite from Welcome To Hell. I'm glad Judas Iscariot got onto your list.
gorgoroth , bathory , immortal , carach angren , venom . those are my choices for black metal bands .
Just found your channel, and I'm so impressed. Nice work. Keep it up. The world needs more examples of well spoken individuals pitching hate and anger.
Props for picking The Return..., that album is kinda underrated
My list:
1. Bathory - Under the Sign of the Black Mark
2. Ulver - Nattens Madrigal (before their music became weird)
3. Enslaved - Frost
4. Satyricon - Nemesis Divina (was close to picking Dark Medieval Times over this)
5. Immortal - Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism
6. Venom - Black Metal
Honourable mentions:
Taake - Hordalands Doedskvad
Emperor - In the Nightside Eclipse
Windir - 1184
*I have to be a little biased here towards my own country, but anyway
Countess - Heilig Vuur
Top 5
5 - Burzum (Burzum)
4 - In The Nightside Eclipse (Emperor)
3 - Under The Sign Of The Black Mark (Bathory)
2 - Sons Of Northern Darkness (Immortal)
1 - De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas (Mayhem)
at least one who thinks as I am..
and some Bathory albums..
"det som engang var" for sure
All these uploads are fucking awesome, happy holidays dude!
Though it will probably change in the future but for right now i would say.
6 Under the Sing of the Black Mark (Battory)
5 Transilvanian Hunger (Darkthrone)
4 Hellfire 1349
3 Enthrone Darkness Triumphant (Dimmu Borgir)
2 Nocturnal Poisoning (Xasthur)
1 Nattens Madrigal (Ulver)
*African American metal.
No, black is more correct as the general term. It very well could have darker skin but not be african at all, such as Haitian
Body Count?
Black Metals Matter.
Lol
@@CGoody564 about 99% of ethnic Haitians are of African descent.
Mgla - Exercises In Futility
Batushka - Litourgiya
Urfaust - Trubadoiri Olta an Diabhail (one of the best live black metal albums out there)
Satanic Warmaster - Carelian Satanist Madness
Sargeist - Let the Devil in
Mutiilation - Remains of a Ruined, Dead, Cursed Soul.
Man, could do a hundred more... Black Metal is my favorite genre too...
More of a Death Metalhead here (I only wear my digital camo sweatpants around the house though, I swear), but my top 6 would look something like this:
Venom - At War with Satan
Sodom - In the Sign of Evil
Bathory - Blood Fire Death
Blasphemy - Fallen Angel of Doom
Satyricon - Dark Medieval Times
Rotting Christ- Thy Mighy Contract
Sodom is a damn good pick. They never get the credit they deserve for pioneering Black Metal.
The first Satyricon is also exceptional.
"Deathlike Silence productions" 'nuff said.
There you go, I always had Sodom picked as straight thrash.
There you go, something new everyday.
My list, in no particular order:
Immortal - Sons of Northern Darkness
Dimmu Borgir - Death Cult Armageddon
Watain - Sworn to the Dark
Sepeltura - Morbid Visions (blow me, it's black metal!)
Marduk - Serpent Sermon
1349 - Revelations of the Black Flame
Honorable mentions:
Goatwhore - Carving Out the Eyes of God
God Seed - I Begin
Black Anvil - Triumvirate
Abbath - Abbath
I love At The Heart of Winter, but the newest Immortal album “Northern Chaos Gods” might even be better.
Thank you rageaholic!, haven't watched the video yet but I can't wait to do so. Before I watch this video I have to say my favorite black metal bands are, burzum, darkthrone, mayhem and old satyricon. My favorite black metal album is "under a funeral moon" by Darkthrone.
Quintessential black metal albums:
1.Mayhem-DMDS
2.Burzum-1992
3.Bathory-UTSOTBM
4.Emperor-Nightside Eclipse
5.Abigor-Opus IV or Nachthymen
I am a very late bloomer in terms of Black Metal. The Age of Nero by SATYRICON was the first BM album I heard. They are still my favourite Black Metal band, and that is still my favourite album by them. So, to make things interesting, my list will not contain any Norwegian releases, as my Norwegian favourites are standard classics anyway.
TERRA AUSTRALIS - Slave to the Moon-Shadow
ADAMUS EXUL - Death, Paint a Vision
THRALL - Away from the Haunts of Man
ORACLE OF THE VOID - Further Steps to a Perfect World
NIGHTBRINGER - Death and the Black Work
MARDUK - Wormwood
The return is also my favorite bathory record.
Finally someone else gives it some love, everyone I know always says Under the sign is their favorite bathory record. (Don't get me wrong though, it's an amazing album too)
I used to think Under Thw Sign was better but realized The Return is more evil
Personal list (very subjective)
1. Ulver - Bergtatt or Nattens Madrigal (can't choose)
2. Windir - Arntor
3. Bathory - Bathory
4. Xasthur - Telepathic with the Deceased
5. Darkthrone - Under a Funeral Moon
6. Sarcofago - INRI
no mayhem, darkthrone, gorgoroth, or immortal. I am surprised.
a little late to the party here but my 6 are:
6 Darkthrone - A Blaze in the Northern Sky
5 Satanic Warmaster - Fimbulwinter
4 Gorgoroth - Quantos Possunt Ad Satanitatem Trahunt
3 Bathory - Bathory
2 Venom - Welcom To Hell
1 Immortal - Pure Holocaust
Never got the hate for Venom. Though I always saw them as closest to thrash.
You more a fan of original doom, or are you drawn to one of the many subgeneres?
Darkstar Omega I'm all over the place, lol... regular Doom, Epic, Funeral, then I'll dip into Sludge, Stoner or Drone...
IWALVG While I do love black metal, I also love doom metal and most of their subgeneres. Have you ever heard of nightly gale?
Darkstar Omega Nope, imma have to look 'em up! Always appreciate being directed towards new music!
IWALVG
No worries man. Illusions of evil was my favorite album. And Jesus wept was great too. Imprint had a few good songs and Lust went off in a completely different direction. Still good though.
1. Immortal-At The Heart Of Winter
2. Emperor-In The Nightside Eclipse
3. Azrael-Act Three:Self-Act Four:Goat
4. Dark Funeral-Vobiscum Santanas
5. Darkthrone-Transilvanian Hunger
6. Marduk-Panzer Division Marduk
7:32 DAMN! This really sounds like Bathory with Abbath on vocals
Hail Bathory and the best Black Metal album of all time 666
Do Rainbow, you've teased me enough.
But seriously thank you, I think I needed this. Being someone who likes Black Metal.
DO BATHORY MYTHOS ALREADY!
Bathory sucks
You got your wish!
@@unessimmich4128 They inspired many black metal bands and still do. Quorthon was a musical genius. You sir are a tone deaf fuckwit.
Thanks dude! ive had that judas iscariot album on my headphones while sleeping for the last week!
I’m late to the game on this video, but I’d like to hear your thoughts on Deathspell Omega and Blut Aus Nord
Your list is evil; I like it. I've been meaning to check out Abigor for years, but never got around to it. They sound sick af in your video. Here is my list of pure, unadulterated Black Metal releases:
6. Celtic Frost - "Emperor's Return"
5. Mayhem - "Wolf's Lair Abyss"
4. Impaled Nazarene - "Tol Cormpt Norz Norz Norz"
3. Darkthrone - "A Blaze in the Northern Sky"
2. Venom - "Welcome to Hell"
1. Bathory - "Bathory"
I fucking agree 666% on the venom part all the way
6. Dark Funeral- Where Shadows Forever Reign
5. Gorgoroth- Antichrist
4. Bathory's debut album
3. Dissection- The Somberlain
2. Emperor- In The Nightside Eclipse
1. Marduk- Opus Nocturne
Those are my top 6 Black Metal albums.
Extremely good list!
