This is updated, with a review of the all-new Saxon album, 'Carpe Diem', which was released just this February! The interview clips (which previously had horrific audio) have also been fixed, along with bringing the video in several of said interviews up to a full 1080p standard. Godspeed and hope you enjoy it!
and thus razo decended from the hevans and said only this. let their be metal. awesome work Razor saw the og glad to see a RM. god Fucken speed sir. o7
Hey razorfist, I've always wanted to see a metal mythos on the Canadian thrash band annihilator. Their music is absolutely awesome, would recommend you check em out.
We were trying out lead guitarists for our band and this guy with a saxon shirt came in the door and we accepted him right away and it turned out to be the right decision even if we never heard him play.
12 years old and living on a Naval Base in Charleston. An older kid named Maurice moved in to neighborhood. He was from Scotland and had a denim jacket with all the band patches on it and wearing knee high mocassins. He played three albums...Black Sabbath "Mob Rules", Iron Maiden "Number of the Beast", and Saxon "Denim and Leather"....I was hooked and metal became my music. To this day "Princess of the Night" is one of my all-time top 3 favorite songs. Sadly, Maurice died a few years later. I always think of him when I hear "Princess" and will eternally be grateful to him for introducing me to metal. \m/
for me the top 5 Saxon songs > Militia Guard > Denim & Leather > Heavy Metal Thunder > Motorcycle Man > Thin Red Line when I really started listening to these guys in 2010 or around then I was floored, realy it's just they sound so good.....their writing is spot on and they're a bit of a feel good band....for a metal band that's weird but I love em for it.....
Can I just say that I would never watch a 1:30 hour long video on here, however, you Mr Razorfist are the exception. Your knowledge and enthusiasm is seductive and yes, I did watch all of it. Great job. NEXT.
Looks like the won't make it to the U.S. until 2023. They never disappoint at a show. When I saw them on the Call To Arms tour on a sunday night it was around 1:00 am. Biff said "if you come into work a couple hours late tell your boss Biff said it's okay". 😆
@@cerveshred its true. Millie is german and they even have a song that says: "we will crush homophobia" its called side by side. I avoid their modern albums, the first 4 are great
Thank you Rage, you know what is amazing is you pump this amazing content out at no cost to us to watch it, and its so good it should be sold. I am grateful.
Great band🤘🏾🔥 I like them as much as I like Iron Maiden. If it weren’t for Metallica, I wouldn’t be a fan of Saxon. Saxon is awesome and cool. Other than that, cool:).
This video is brilliant. Thank you for all your hard work. I first went to see Saxon in 1984 in Leeds with opening act Battle Axe. I've been wearing denim and leather ever since.
Hot damn it’s been a while since we got an updated mythos! Any others that might make the cut sometime in the future? Stryper perhaps? Pretty sure they released like two more albums after Fallen.
Carpe Diem is awesome. The title track has a killer riff. It's got a song called Age of Steam that is about the invention of trains, and a song called Supernova that's unironically about an actual supernova. How cool is that!
Was never a fan of Saxon but did like "The Call of the Wild" song lol. Love watching Razors metal mythos series as it shows different metal which isn't normally to my taste but love the history about the bands and Razors sharp tongue and sarcasm is just perfect. Cannot wait to the next one 👍👍👍
Saw Saxon last year, 2022, which made it almost 40 years to the month that I had last seen them, my first metal album, wheels of steel, yep felt just as Lars described. BTW, worth watching for your JFK views. LOL.
I've really enjoyed this Metal Mythos segment and largely agree with Razorfist on his album commentary, but there's one point where I would disagree and that's regarding the album "Metalhead". From a musician's standpoint, it has some of the best overall production values and guitar tones I've ever heard on a metal album. I would also say there is strong songwriting, lyrical content, great melodies, good energy, and some of the most passionate vocals I've heard from Byf, along with the band's overall performance-- it seems to me that for the most part they took the content of the album seriously, despite the lighter tone they took with the title track. For me the standout song was "Watching You" with its heavy riffs, punchy bass, a killer change at 2:31 minutes, and one helluva fadeout. Also like "Piss Off", "Going In", and "Sea of Changes." "Connquistador"? It's an okay Maidenesque tome, but not one of my favorites. Regarding Razorfist's comparing this Saxon effort to those of younger 'Drop D' bands of the early 90's-- I would say the only difference between those songs I briefly checked out and those on Metalhead would be that the latter had actual changes, great vocals with a rich, textural melodic range, and great melodic guitar playing, with regard to chord progressions and leads.
Thanks for the update Razorfist! Had Carpe Diem vinyl on pre-order and it showed up the week it was released. One of their finest for sure. Saxon ages like a fine wine.

I've been a fan since 1979 ... I saw the video for Princess of the Night on MTV and immediately went to the record store and bought the album ... I'm of the opinion they aren't bigger than they are because of the vocals ... this is a band you either love or you don't ... We met then several times on tour during the early eighties and I traded a guitar with Paul backstage in Norman, Oklahoma ... up the irons !!!
A fucking fantastic assessment of a decades long career, Razor. I admittedly knew only of Saxon's existence before this immersive dive into their style and glory, warts and all. I commend and thank you for a job well done. 🤘🏼🌟
Sweet update. As someone that only has Strong Arm and The Eagle has Landed, this makes me feel the need to fill out my Saxon collection a bit. I think I'll track down Wheels of Steel and Lionheart first.
My brother got me into Saxon with Power and the Glory with the opening to Redline. As me and my brother were/are motorheads (cars) and Motorhead, I guess, but hearing that blaring opening through home speakers thrown in the back seat of a 72 Nova, on cassette and a Heath Kit (wonder how many people remember those?) made car amplifier. This is awesome RF, a lot of memories!
I'm loving your raging commentaries. Entertaining and informative. So far, I've watched the ones on Priest, WASP, Death Wish, and now here I am at Saxon.
I've only recently found your page, and I 100% agree with the ending comment, SEE THIS BAND LIVE! I saw Black Star Riders and Saxon open for Priest on the '18 Firepower tour, and HOLY SHIT did Saxon sound absolutely fantastic live. Instantly got me to check out their early material. Well done on this retrospective.
Another excellent documentary. I love every documentary you have done. Awesome. I am a rare metal freak that loves every album of Saxon as well. Nice..
I check every half year or so to see if you've posted a new Mythos as I LOVE them. Just watched the Saxon one which I missed somehow. Wow! My dad impressed my mom in the late 80s with his singing and guitar covers of Saxon. Apparently it worked well since I'm here!
I think you meant to say "my dad SEDUCED my mom in the late 80s"

still waiting for an Alice Cooper Metal Mythos. He's been name checked almost every episode it seems! it's time!
To be fair Alice has 28 records.
Well sir, you might wanna check back into the Mythos.
Ask and you shall receive, my friend!
Thanks for the Saxon Metal Mythos update Razörfist. Really been liking what Saxon has been putting out lately.

Can't change my mind.
I’d love a remaster of the Stryper Metal mythos, especially since they have 2 albums not covered by the original and a third new one on the way
I asked for a Stryper mythos remaster when this video launched, but I think the one that really deserves a remaster is Darkthrone.
They rly don’t 😂 a 3 minute video on their first 3 albums would have been enough. The rest was just pointless
Fuck yea. I thought you might go back after Carpe Diem was released and update it. The new album absolutely crushes. It’s amazing.
Awesome, can’t wait for Priest remastered, but you might as well wait until the new album next year.
