Great show as always guys! I really like how you are showing an enlarged photo or image of the bottles. Really helps us identify clearly which bottle or brand you are talking about.
Hudson has rebranded their line of products. I like the old labels better, but the booze in the bottle is all that really matters. I've tried the rye from the old label (Manhattan Rye) and the new label (Do The Rye Thing), and they tasted similar to me. It's a rather aromatic and floral rye that might not be to everybody's taste, but I like it. As is indicated by the old name, it works well in a Manhattan. I haven't tried the bourbon, but I hear that it has changed a bit since the rebrand. I sometimes like weird and funky stuff, so I would like to give it a try. The new bourbon is called Bright Lights, Big Bourbon. They also have a few other ryes and bourbons in their line-up, including a 7-year four grain bourbon that looks interesting. Incidentally, I also like Willett pot still bourbon. It has just enough funk to make it interesting for me, and I like it when bourbon goes off the beaten path stylistically.
this is why I've accumulated 110 bottles ... I keep going "Hey, I've never tried that one" and after you do that enough times over enough years, you've got a collection of meh bottles that you don't really want to finish off. If they were cheap enough, I'd probably just dump them, but too many were over forty bucks and my cheap self won't dump them............ 🙄
I realize how focused these responses are to the current video, but here is a question anyway.. 1) Widow Jane-Have had Decadence and loved it. Opinions about others like the 10 year. 2) RD1-Thinking about visiting. Any opinions about them? Thanks for any responses.
I often laugh at different times during your videos. The moment that Kurt sipped the Baby Hudson made me laugh so hard I rolled with mine own laughter! Great video gentleman.
Interesting vid. Enjoyed the concept because knowing what not to pick can be as import knowing what you like. Quick question, noticed on the last few episodes that there is an aggressive background music. Has that always been there? Not sure if that is added in post, or if it is background in the room. I found it distracting
Great video! I used to drink Willet and am still not someone who dislikes it but after a year with you guys there are lots of better options at or below their price point. I have only spit out alcohol 2x once was a heavily peated Scotch and the other time was on a wine tour in Napa Valley. Spitting out good wine was so strange to me it took them a while to convince me to do it.
Can you do a video on your bunkered bottles? Would love to see what you guys are storing away for years later; bonus points if you show your storage setup for the bottles!
Entertaining video guys! I feel bad bringing this up because it's my local distillery, but i have spit out Detroit City Butchers Cut before (the standard 2 year old release). It just wasn't for me. Now, I have had this as a single barrel at cask strength, and it was excellent and nothing like the standard release. However, the distillery is completely grain to glass right in the middle of Detroit and they just released a 6 year old bourbon this past Friday. But yeah, the 2 year old bourbon was a miss for me.
My wife bought the willet pot still. The batch we have smells like brown sugar glaze on a bbq. Light Carmel taste but not too grain forward. It was more of a one note taste but not bad. Maybe we got a good batch.
I kinda like the Willet Pot still. I did have some from a friends bottle that I hated, but I’ve had 2 bottles that were decent. Second bottle was a gift, not saying I would buy it again due to the price. Much better options out there at $50 plus
Have received two bottles of Willet as gifts...a 750 (finished it off across 2 years...batch 21C68) and a 1.75 L (haven't opened it yet...batch 21A22). The 21C68 was not the worse whiskey I have had...and made a decent Old Fashioned. It did get better after I aged the second half of the bottle in one of those aging barrels (after a Buffalo Trace and Wild Turkey 101 Bourbon / Rye mixture...which is amazing by the way). Will open up the 21A22 later this month. From the sounds of it, there isn't much hope for Hudson or David E....maybe they would get better aged? Thanks for the laughs and honest opinions as always! Cheers! 🥃
I agree with Hudson Baby Bourbon. I had a bottle of that and was really disappointed. But I disagree with the Willet Pot Still I do enjoy that. This is what makes the bourbon world great. Great show today.
I had Hudson baby bourbon a LONG time ago! I am pretty sure it was later on in the night after 3 or 4 other pours I remember one of those being a bookers. I don't recall Hudson baby bourbon being that bad! I know it was not my favorite but it may have got lucky being after bookers and a few other pours hahahaha
I remember having Willet and liking it. I bought a bottle, and it was a chore to finish it. It seemed so unbalanced and some of the characteristics seemed to overpower other notes. The other one's I haven't had, and I've only seen Hudson Whiskey.
Not one I had to spit out but when I first started hunting allocations I found a 1792 single barrel and it was one of the most exciting days for me. When home opened it up and almost spit it out it was so cherry medicine in a way I couldn’t even explain. Everyone else seems to like the single barrels so maybe mine is just the worst of the worst? Not sure but I don’t want to buy another to find out lol
We celebrated our 17th wedding anniversary last night and had a pour of Old Forester 1920 at our favorite restaurant. My hubby didn't like it at all and I drank his..lol I didn't love it but I did finish the glass. Glad I had not bought it before. Yes, everyone's pallet is different.
Its complex and subtley very good. But with the proof point its not the easiest drinking pour. I like it a lot but put my seatbelts on before drinking it.
This was great.. Quick story,, When I use to live in St Louis, my brother and I were at a bar in south city about 8 years back and the bartender recommended baby Hudson to me and the story was cool so I went for it.. Man it is underwhelming and had more prominent nasty notes, couldn't believe it..
I have never tried any of these I am glad to say. If I have the chance to try the Willet Pot Still I would like to sample it because I do have some friends who enjoy it very much.
Dead Guy Whiskey from Rogue Spirits. Bought a bottle early in my whiskey journey. Tasted like watered down honey with a bunch of black pepper. Thought it was my beginner palate...but tried it a year or so later and couldn't get past the first sip. Sorry to say it was a drain pour.
Baijiu Chinese sorghum distillate is the only drink I can remember spitting out. Some co-workers from China knew I like bourbon and gave me this as a present. I hope they meant well, otherwise I have to assume they didn’t like working with me. I googled it and it is frequently used for celebrations and ceremonies. When Nixon went to China, Alexander Haig told him to only put it to his lips and not really drink it. Haig said the taste was like gargling razor blades.
Great video! Editing was great! I think that the music was a little loud. I had to replay a little to figure out what y'all were saying. Just my opinion. love the jaz tho!
I wouldn’t buy the willet pit still just based on the price but we have it on the back bar at the restaurant I work at and it’s pretty decent in my book, just underwhelming. Haven’t gotten a tire not or rancid food note on it but I definitely can pick those up in other whiskeys. Maybe they vary from batch to batch?
I got a bottle of Hudson Baby a few years back. It was too much cinnamon and drank like it was 140 proof. Got rid of it by using it for cocktails. Too expensive to be just a cocktail pour.
Fun video! So do they use water from The Hudson River to create Baby Hudson? Never tried any I’d these and probably never will. I’m 18 months and 180 bottles into my journey and the only pour I couldn’t swallow a third sip was The Traveler! Cheers
The worst things I've ever had: Tullamore DEW Dewar's white label New Mexico Blue corn whisky Longhorn Texas Corn Whiskey Balcones 100 Proof Rye Garrison Brothers Boot Flask Canadian Mist Black Velvet Canadian whisky These things were all *AWFUL.* 12:25 Kurt might not be having fun, but we sure are. 🤣
I actually want to try some of these. I maybe have only explored things that I’ve had recommended, but I have yet to try a bourbon that I actively didn’t like and I’d like to know what that’s like 🤣
The one I would have spit out was Hudson Manhattan Rye, but I was in a bar at the time, so I had to surreptitiously dribble it back into the glass... The worst that actually said bourbon on the label was Cleveland Underground Black Cherry Wood Bourbon - I was at home for that one, so it went down the sink plug-hole!
I think I caught lightning in a bottle with my WPS because I don’t get any of the bad notes others do. We have blinded it many times against other lower proof shelf offerings and it’s never been last.
A bottle of FEW was given to me. I did spit that out but I feel that it must have been tainted to be that bad. I will not buy one to find out. Does anyone have experience with this botyle?
Only whiskey I actually couldn’t drink was Pure Kentucky XO (which funny enough I think is also Willet?); everything else I’ve had was at worst swallowable but that stuff gave me the same reaction as the Baby Bourbon in this video!
If/when you do this again you have to add Stilhouse. It comes in a can that looks like turpentine, and for good reason. I couldn't resist picking it up because it was odd and cheap. A buddy and I tried it and we now refer to it as S#!thouse 😂
Worst I’ve ever had to my memory was balcones pot still. Sour old coffee was all I got out of it just miserable. So maybe pot still is just trade term for “bad product”
McFarlane's Reserve from TW&More. Thought i would try to find a diamond in the rough. Turned to be a turd in the toilet. Had one pour and forced it down put it on the top of my fridge in the garage and there it sits collecting dust and cobwebs. Maybe i can use it to barter for something useful when the apocalypse comes...😂
Was that the bourbon? I have an unopened bottle; I think it got good reviews and really went up in secondary price. We had batch 2 and thought it was pretty decent.
Wow, it's a shame to see how poorly the baby bourbon was. It had a bottle ten years ago and I remember enjoying it. I bought a Willet pot still at the same time and was not in my wheel house then. Thanks guys!
I've tried a couple of the Hudson products and they are bad!! Nothing good about them at all! I see them on the shelves at the local Kroger's and Giant Eagle with more dust that a forest shack has!! Great review overall gentlemen!
My least favorite bottle ever is a local distillery, J. Reiger, and their first release of their Bottled-in-Bond. I have hated it and almost poured it down the drain a couple times. Have had it for over 2 years and I go back to it and hate it equally each time. I’ve heard others may like it fine so maybe they got better or I just got a bad bottle, but it’s not for me that’s for sure!
See if you can get your hands on Mad River. It’s by far worse than anything you have on the bar. I would give you some samples but I think I drain poured it.
OK, we bought an Isaac Bowman port fetish and to say it taste like drinking. A perfume bottle would be about the best description I could give to that you guys should try to give that one a shot and see if you can tolerate it
The worst one I've ever tried is Howler Head. The banana flavoring was so strong I ended up pouring 90% of the 750ml down the drain. I even tried mixing 3 shots of chocolate liquor with 1 shot of Howler Head was the banana flavoring made it undrinkable. I have also tried Willet Pot Still and couldn't stand it either.
The editing on this video was much better than recent ones!! Loved the little previews of the bottles. You need to keep doing those!
“Bison fed grass milk” 😂
"Brownie water". Trentons nose is that of a bloodhound.
Once he said that, I opened the comments, and this was the first comment 😂
Lol!!!!
I don't mean to get all Oprah, but the best part for me was when Kurt told Trenton "anytime spent with you is a good time for me". Golden.
Whoa! I don't think I've ever seen Kurt turn around and spit out a sip before! 😲😂
Baby Hudson brought tears to my eyes from laughing so hard.
Yeah. I remember when I first tried it back in 2011... Ooo a craft, top shelf bourbon, expensive (to me back then). 😂😂😂😂 Oh no this is hot garbage.
Now I wanna go out and buy a bottle just to check it out and get all gnarly.

Yeah, have yet to have a NY whiskey that I really like.

Check out Olde Raleigh, the honey bourbon isn’t bad for the price. Same with the stogie batch. The bottle is half the price. lol. ✌️

Willet Pot Still to this day is my only drain pour.. I'll stay far away from that Hudson!!🤣🤣
kurt calling a bourbon for once killed me lmao, he knew immediately what that was. that one deff left a bad taste in his mouth more than once
You guys had way too much fun and giggles for drinking below bottom shelf "bourbons". 🤣

That’s one of the better ones
1920 is one of my main stays. Always available and better than 95% of the stuff I've had and a very fair price
Its complex and subtley very good. But with the proof point its not the easiest drinking pour. I like it a lot but put my seatbelts on before drinking it.

Cape Fear Distillery Frying Pan Shoals Bourbon. Tried it because it was local and it was terrible. Can’t believe it had made 7 previous batches.
I got a bottle of Hudson Baby a few years back. It was too much cinnamon and drank like it was 140 proof. Got rid of it by using it for cocktails. Too expensive to be just a cocktail pour.

Was that the bourbon? I have an unopened bottle; I think it got good reviews and really went up in secondary price. We had batch 2 and thought it was pretty decent.
@@jeffnuzz yeah. I can’t stand it.
Wow, it's a shame to see how poorly the baby bourbon was. It had a bottle ten years ago and I remember enjoying it. I bought a Willet pot still at the same time and was not in my wheel house then. Thanks guys!
I bought a bottle of Single-Barrel Garrison 94 proof. I tried 4 times to like it, but just never could. To me, it tasted like hot wood.
Laws Cask strength wasn’t good on fresh crack. Hoping it gets better with some air
I've tried a couple of the Hudson products and they are bad!! Nothing good about them at all! I see them on the shelves at the local Kroger's and Giant Eagle with more dust that a forest shack has!! Great review overall gentlemen!
Hudson should put "smells like a goblin" on the bottle.
Why don't you try Union Horse Bourbon? I think it's an interesting, full flavor from pallet to finish.
I hope yall drain poured these and not include them into the infinity bottle!!
Is it wrong that I cook with the pot still because it’s too bad to drink??
Ngl, you guys are the funniest when tasting whiskeys you do not like, LOL.
