Gentlemen, as you’re blind tasting 1 to 5, a caption at the bottom of the screen for the whiskey you’re on would be wonderful! Helps me to compare notes and distinguish the different releases. As an added bonus, makes things easier to follow. Love the channel!
Absolutely Love the KC12, by far one of my favorite pours.
Just picked up my first Knob Creek 9...... Wow!.... tastes amazing. Love this channel..... amazing reviews!!
So I just recently bought the 12-year and I was ecstatic when you picked it as your favorite it truly is amazing bourbon it's so smooth at the end and I'm learning a lot about bourbon watching you two fellas keep up the good work
Personally, I really enjoy Knob Creek 9. Seeing it finish in the middle of the pack is pretty good considering the price point.
100%
I agree. Good taste, good price.
Knob Creek 9 is one of the best values in bourbon. Can regularly find it sub $30 USD.
Costco, 1.75, $47.99. Unbelievable value. Has become my everyday drinker.
It was fun for me to watch, and lets face it, any day being stumped at a bourbon tasting has GOTTA be better than the best day at work where you about knock yourself out. Just so happens that I was able to pick up the Knob Creek 9 year single barrel reserve 120 proof this last weekend. It was simply delightful, fabulous, fantastic all wrapped into one.
KC 12 is readily available here (Florida, East Coast) for $60. That’s a fair price for a terrific bourbon. I can get the 15 and 18 online but the price is outrageous (not worth it to me). Blinds are a terrific way to humble yourself. I have been on this earth a long time. I still get fooled with blinds. I think when you pay $100+ for a bourbon, and you see what you are drinking, your mind can trick you into validating the cost. In a blind, you taste what you taste. That’s why I love doing blinds. For me, the good old KC 9 is perfect. It’s $31 here, 50% ABV. Can’t complain about that.
Humbled is the correct word!
KC 12 is available here in NW Florida for about 74. The 15 is pretty good also.
it is a real and scientifically proved phenomenon. observer bias actually changes the taste of something in your brain... if you expect it to taste better, it will. the same for audio... if you expect a particular singer/instrument/speaker is better, it will be. Blind testing is the only way to eliminate the observer bias. But in the end, who cares :)
KC 12 is about 60 here in Tennessee and the KC 9 is about 30 both are a good pour but I lean towards KC 9 more
12 is hard to pick against as the best here (when it comes to availability and price)
This made me go out and get the 9 year...........WOW! What a nice bourbon. No burn, great taste, smooth. I picked it up for $37 with tax, but alcohol is always so much more expensive in my state.
I've been sleeping on knob Creek. Still have yet to buy any of them sadly. I think I'm going to start with the 12 though.
What a fun video fellas! It’s contagious when you’re having fun! I had my first pour of KC 12 recently and loved it. For $60-$70…and available…it’s pretty good!
I've seen 4 different blinds with KC products and the 12 year has come in first or second in every one. I've never seen it lose to the 18 year.
Love all my KC bourbons, especially my 12. I have backups to 12. Worth the $75-80-something bucks.
I personally really appreciated this blind tasting video. Knob Creek 9 year is my daily drinker. Because it's 100 proof, I enjoy it the most in an old fashion. I have two bottles of 12 year on my shelf I bought last year and I was preparing to purchase an 18 year tomorrow. I'm really glad I watched this video because I no longer have to regret spending $160 on a bottle I probably wouldn't like.
I haven't had the pleasure of the 15 and 18 year. But I agree that the 12 year is in first place for me among the remaining! I would love to try the 15 and 18, but price and availability has been an issue for me. Thanks for the great blind test! 😃👍👍
I just got my brother 15yr batch 1 for $107. They have 3 bottles of batch 2 left. May grab that too since ive heard batch 1 wasnt as good as batch 2. Even as far as ppl saying they didnt like batch 1 but liked batch 2.
9:11.... was hoping you would say that..... spot on... Kurt, didn't even get it..... love this vid....
I enjoyed the hell out of this episode. This channel is a gift.
I watched because I happened to be drinking the 9 year when this popped in my feed. I pushed it out first too.
Very helpful. I got the 12 at Costco and it's fantastic. I know a lot of people are chasing the 18 but I know now to pass.
Don't let another's opinion sway you too much. I have em all too and 18 was #1 blind.
@@account2292 KC 18 is going for $200 to $350 a bottle KC 12 is $60. No Bourbon is worth $200+ a bottle.
@@davidsaul2707 many bourbons are worth that and more.
Now THIS is a blind taste test! Loved this video. Being surprised by what you picked when everything is revealed at the end is just so much fun! I was actually not surprised at all that the 18 year came in last place, though. With bourbon being aged in new white oak barrels, I think 18 years is getting pretty far past the point of diminishing returns, where the oak notes start to overpower most, if not all other notes that make bourbon/whiskey so delicious. I love the oak notes I get in various whiskeys when they're part of a well-balanced flavor profile. I was, on the other hand, quite surprised at where some of the other KC offerings landed in y'all's order of preference... Great job, guys!
12 year is my favorite of those as well. Cheers!
I love the heck out of the KC Rye. Not a Bourbon, but for me it drinks like one. Nice looking line up right there.
Kurt, You all have a great channel. I’ve been loving bourbon the last two to three years. I’ve watched all the channels on RUclips and settled on you and your family’s channel. You are the Walter Cronkite of whiskey. Thank you.
Really surprised 18 came in last for both of you. I didn't buy it worried it would be over oaked.
Serious question is there any 18 year bourbon thats actually good? I feel like thats generally just too long for bourbon to age and not be overly oaked.
It’s def up there for bourbon. 8-12 yrs is a more typical wheel house.
The 17 yr Heaven Hill release was outstanding but that’s not always the case.
I was lucky enough to be able to taste the KC18 this past weekend, and while it was very good and full of flavor up front, the back end was very uneventful and it fell off very quickly. If they had made it even 110 or 115 proof it would have been very excellent.
Knob Creek is really good. I haven't had all five of these. I've had the 120 and the 9 year. Both are great. The 120 proof is so smooth for being that strong. Good job guys!
I really enjoy the dynamic between you and your son that's awesome and then you have your wife behind the camera even better, a true family project
Getting my wife behind camera would be a modern day miracle 😂
This was my favorite vid of yours yet. As a "noob" my bourbon collection is just starting but my abosolute
favorite bottle is my Knob Creek SB 9yr. I sipped a little of it while I watched: can you say SMELL-A-VISION??!! Thanks guys you are the best.
I have some bottles that are expensive and when I drink them they taste great. But if I have them in a blind against less expensive whiskeys sometimes they they do not shine as bright. Suggestion is a powerful component to taste in many cases you think it is special you will justify it. Love the content can’t wait for the next video to drop.
Probably worse than the power of suggestion is the issue with "elegance." In a blind, especially one with many bottles, the stronger whiskeys may edge out those that are more elegant with subtle complexities.
Love it!!
Blinds are so telling.
Appreciate the channel. Keep up the Whiskey Fun! Looking forward to your next video..
Great video, thanks. Sounds like it's time to start labeling the glasses with letters instead of numbers.
Results at 14:35 I love this channel!!
Thank you!
I really enjoy watching you guys. You like good bourbon and you are real.
2 take aways for me. #1 they're all good. #2 I would love to see this show repeated in 3 months and compare the results. Thanks to you both
Thanks ....have not tried KC but plan to this year. Very timely.
I enjoyed the video. Here Knob Creek 9 is the only one regularly available although on Nov 5 there are a number of bourbons being brought into the government stores including the Knob Creek 12 ($129.99 CDN) and the 18 ($234.99 CDN). Knob Creek was the very first bourbon I tried so I have a soft spot for it and still have one 375ml Non Age Stated at home. I picked up two at a local private liquor store (their last two) at a very good price (for here) and enjoyed the first one, makes me want to save the other.
Hellos fellow BC Knob Creek fan! I bought the 15 at the spring spirit release and am going for the 12 on Sunday. The 18 is just a little too much, and I've heard it's too oaky, but I look forward to doing my own blind with 4 of these. The 9 SiB was readily available on the island this summer, many private stores had it at a reasonable price. Hoping they can get some more in, but I ordered from Alberta just in case.
@@mees31 Yes, I agree that the 18 is too pricey. Since the Old Forester 1920 I was hoping for did not come in, at least where I am, I picked up the 12 as well.
You guys took on an imposing task. Thanks so much. I love that 18 so I'm not doing a bind tasting though!
The single barrel reserve at 120 proof is amazing at this price point. It could easily compete at a much higher scale.
My favorite KC. It’s amazing.
The 12 year is one of my regulars. Around me the best bourbons in that $60 range are :
Knob creek 12
Rare breed
Old forester 1920
Jack Daniels sbbp
Stagg jr and Elijah Craig barrel proof used to be my top two in that $60 price range but unfortunately those days are gone around me now.
I’ll put the 4 you listed up against anything else out there including juice that’s twice as much. You fav 4 are mine as well👍🏻🥃
sipped 12 year and loved it. on my list to pickup for sure.
Knob Creek 9 Year is my fav 😄🥃
May I suggest that you pull the lowest placing glass furthest away from the camera, and then move slightly closer toward the camera in order. In the end first will be closest and the viewers can visually see your order of picks
Only had the 9 year and I was very impressed
I love their 9 year....but I might have to give the 10 or 15 year a try! I like sweater, more carmel type Bourbons
I just found a store that had 8 bottles of KC 12 so I had to pick one up . . . man is it good '-)
I love all the KC that I have had, 9 yr, SB, Rye, 115 Rye, 12 yr. Still haven't seen the 15 or 18 yr.
The nine year knob creek whiskey is very good in making bourbon chili! That is my public service announcement try it you won’t regret it
oh good, I have the 12 year sitting in my cabinet unopened for about a year now. Never got around to drinking it. Will need to open it up when it finally snows here on Long Island.
Great stuff, blind tastings are the great equalizer.
As you said ...they're ALL real good!! I have to blind these and see how they land for me. I would think I'd go 120proof SIB, 12year, 18yr, 9yr (don't have the 15) but will be interesting to do that blind.
I do like nutty whiskey. My favorite is Russel’s Reserve Single Barrel. I think it has more complexity and better in the mouth feel. The KC 9 is a good whiskey, but I thought it lacks the complexity, the finish was short for me. I love “Sip it or Skip it” keep it up!
Didnt even watch yet but did a similar blind about a yr ago. The 120proof 9yr came out on top. The 15 was a let down. Like eating tree bark.
It’s too bad you can’t add pics but I went to Total Wine which is just a big alcohol store near me but they carry small bottles on a lot of bourbons and based on some of your videos I was able to get 4 small bottles to try without the commitment of buying a large bottle and spending tons of money for something I may not like. They had an awesome selection, I ended up with 4, knob creek 9yr, old forester, Elijah Craig small batch and woodford reserve. I’m pretty sure they’re all 375ml but all together I was around 70 bucks which I was going to buy one bottle for 50ish.
Wow very interesting results! You jokingly mentioned doing it again but I actually think that would be fun to see.
Love how real you guys are. No playing up to the camera. Just two guys being themselves and being honest. Keep up the good work.
Great video, your honesty is gaining subscribers and making for amazing videos!
I was looking in the liquor cabinet for a bottle of O.F. 1910 a couple days ago and saw that I have a bottle of 9-YO Knob Creek "Single Barrel Reserve" 120 proof in there. Unopened and I think I bought it in 2020. Forgot I had it.
the standard 9 has to be the worst out of the bunch. Now I have not had the 15 or 18, but I do own the rest. The 12 and the SB are much better then the base 9 in my opinion
KC 9 100 is 20$ near me
Trenton everybody has their off days when it comes to situations like this but blind tasting does help the palmitate develope a little more each time so cheer up whiskey hunter it will be ok 👍
Please advise - > which one should I get -- only getting choice to get one in bulk through someone. ( I am in INDIA ) - its almost impossible to get good stuff here.
1 -> Knob Creek Small Batch 9 Year Old Whiskey ( 1 liter )
2 -> Wild turkey rare breed cask strength ( 750 ml )
Both are coming almost at the same price point.
Both are good bourbons. Rare breed is cheaper, but i personally prefer knob creek 9 year as far as taste goes. Taking into consideration that i drank standard Jim Beam white label for many years before trying other bourbons, so I'm partial to any Beam product. If you've had either lower priced jim beam product or wild turkey, and prefer one over the other I'd say go with the higher end of that brand.
@@jessethomas5473 Thanks , cheers
Tough choices. Great job!
This was great and super useful. Both your top two were the same, and both your last place was the same. So i know to avoid the 18 year and buy the 12 and 15 year. Thanks!
No surprise the 18 came in last, bourbon doesn’t seem to age well past 15 years. That age bracket is the realm of good scotch whiskey.
Poured myself some KC 9 and searched SLB for this video. Makes me want to go get some more bottles.
Also need to get the rye options in there. 100 proof rye, one of the limited release or single barrel cask ryes and the twice barreled
Lots of good ones!
I haven't had the 15 or 18 yet, but i love the 12yr and 9 yr SiB
Just asked my sons for the 12 and 15 year for next Christmas. I've always loved the 9 year so now I have to try the next step up. I gotta see if its truly better than my favorite.
Despite KC18 being last…it’s still a pretty solid pour!
Been subscribed for a month of so now, learning alot....I definitely can see the tipsy-ness effect by the end if the video...very entertaining ,love the additional comments also of it all
Single Barrel Reserve 9yr was the hottest drinking and spikiest 120proof I’ve ever had.
I think y’all nailed the top 2 regardless of order and I feel like the standard 9yr has to be 3rd based on value alone. Good stuff 👍🏻
I agree on the 120. It doesn’t carry its proof particularly well. ECBP is much better.
I actually agree with Kurt! They should do this blind again to see if their orders changed based off of the day, what they had eaten, the order, etc.
Can't imagine why anyone would get confused.
I'm fascinated to hear others describe the same (explosion of) flavors I've tasted in Knob Creek. Anyone gulping down whiskey wouldn't notice. I haven't drank my KC in years. Just sniffing from the 1/2 full, 12 year's open bottle is heavenly. Saving it for a special occasion.
Sometimes I get so caught up in the nose of a good whisky that I have to remind myself to take a sip. 🥃
I mean... KC 12 isn't hard to find (at least in my State). You could replace that 1/2 bottle for $70 or less and both save it for a special occasion and have some in the meantime!
@@RocketSauce666 KC only gets better as it ages in the bottle. Mine's 12yo plus another 12 years or so.
I don’t know what’s funnier, Trent’s face at the start of the video or his dirty shirt lol
Love knob creek! Great video as always gentlemen!
The funniest thing is seeing these funny guys getting parlatic on video
Surprised by 18 position. Great blind and I agree KC picks and releases deliver 9xs out of 10.
Please remember that the 9 year “single barrel 120 proof” is made from barrels they are between 9 and 16 years. This information is from my 2017 visit to Jim Beam distillery.
Agreed with Kurt 100% got the same results at home testing ;-)
That was awesome. Much better you on camera than me, as this is tough. KC is wonderful in general: big, bold, classic, epitome of what I love out of bourbon. On KC SB: while I've never had a bad one, my previous bottle was not as good as the one I just opened and drank along with you (neither were store picks). This bottle veers towards the dark chocolate, molasses, with only a touch of sweetness. KC for the win (especially the 12 over the 9 😉). Cheers.🥃
P.S. Since you obviously don't prefer the 18, I'd be happy to take it off your hands!
🫤
Knob Creek is a release from James Beam Distillery as is Jim Beam a release from James Beam Distillery. James Beam is the distillery, not Jim Beam. Jim Beam is a release as is Knob Creek. Knob Creek is also my favorite.
Crazy results!! I have had the KC18 and it along with the WTMK Forgotten are in my top 3 bottles of 2022. Can’t wait to blind them in 2 weeks.
I was completely dumbfounded…
Had knob 18yr at a bar yesterday and I was not impressed. I'm not surprised 18 was last place.
best bourbon was garfield liquor store picks two different ones 9 year single barrel love the twelve not chasing the others. probably will continue with 9 year single barrels moving forward
Love the Schoops shout out!
Trenton is definitely a different breed! Another great episode!
😂
My wife and I just went through a debate in the liquor store over the 12 year vs the 15 year and ended up buying the 12. To date, it is the most expensive bourbon we’ve bought and happily, it’s good.
Glad you like it!
12 Year is great, found it once here in midwest. Cannot find it anymore for a reasonable price ~$50ish
12 year is my favorite!
I tried 9, 12, and 18 year at Jim Beam and I ranked them in that order. Of course it wasn't blind, but 18 was last and 9 year is one of my favorite bourbons
I love you guys. Great respect between generations. You guys are my go to reviewers…..keep it up please!
Older bourbon tends to appeal to fewer cz unless u like chewing on a oak stave it's not going to be great
Knob Creek is probably one of the tops on my list. The Rye is my favorite, though. But I'm more into Rye's these days.
The 9 is the best I’ve tried so far.
A fun show! And I learn something new every time.
Glad Michelle was not drinking😂…fun show..filmed Sunday morning before church?
😂
I've gone at things bass akwards...I've got all but the 9 year 😁
The 12 is solid. The 18 doesn’t hold in blinds. It’s a good pour but doesn’t show well in blinds.
Gentlemen, can you check which version of the KC-15 you have? I have the 002 edition as shown at the bottom of the front label. A few people with the 001 have told me that theirs is a bit more disjointed than mine. I absolutely love the 15yr and, as soon as I get the 18yr, I will have my wife do this exact blind tasting for me. Keep up the great work, especially the way you always address your viewers' comments in your shows. Cheers.
We do have the 002.
Not a Beam fan but I do like Knob Cr 9. However I didnt like the KC 12 and didn't want to pay a lot for a bottle I might not like so haven't tried the 15 and haven't seen the 18
Guys this wa fun to watch. However I have one request, for the future when you are doing blinds, please mark glasses with numbers and display bottles and number on the screen so that we can See what you are referring to on the fly
I love the honesty! great channel!
I would love to try the 15 and 18, but for the price for the bottle is a little steep for me.
I think headspace can effect these kind of blinds, in an effort too explain why they did,may or would have changed in other blinds. Maybe neck poor blinds, should be a thing when doing same distilleries.
