I’ve built a couple of these Jason, during lockdown I built a diorama and it turned out pretty good 👍

Of all the old 1970's Tamiya Armour kits. This one has stood the test of time. Unlike that 1970's Panther kit that Tamiya keep churning out. The one that only costs £15. I believe that the 2006 North Africa version is the better kit. If you can get hold of one. I wonder how this would stack up against the new Border Model Flak 88 kit?

Hi Jason, Nice review of a great kit. You keep saying 1972 like it was a long time ago. LOL. I was 14 when this kit came out. I'm sure I've built it at least once. Those reels on the fenders are for communication cables. The idea was that they could string cables from each gun to the command post so they could more effectively aim the guns. Thanks for sharing. Have a great day. Jeff

    Looks
Looks like a fun nostalgic build Jason! They’re great for practicing techniques.

    Dear MKS,
One of the things about returning to this pastime is that one is reminded from time to time about kits built in the past. This happened today when I saw your video!
I might have been 16 or so when I built this kit- I liked it then and would probably still like it now!
    Regards,
    Z

My first kit was the Tamiya 1/35 German motorcycle and sidecar, I got one for my birthday (maybe 7 8 or 9) and I tried building it before school, I remember many of the kits that I bought as a kid and the Matchbook LRDG Chevrolet and SAS jeep and the Char B1 and the FT-17 were some of my favourite models.
Tamiya, Esci and Hasegawa were probably the best brands you could buy when I was a school kid, Heller was a brand I always avoided because of the low quality.

    Well done.
Indeed, fond memories of building one in the 70s.
I am surprised to see so much flash present on the parts. I am going to have to go look at one of my vintage issue kits and see if it is so prevalent. I suspect those molds are just showing their age .. much like me :P

A good review of a legendary gun, Jason. Together with the figures included in the kit, it lends itself well to a diorama scene.
    Greetings, Joachim

It was an easy build for me as a 10 year old not long after it came out. Probably a bit of a gluey mess then but it fell together. Think I ended up building all of those on the side of the box.

Good kit review. This was the apex of kit design at the time it was made. I think it still holds up to being a great kit. The addition of crew figures sells it for me. Have fun building it.

Nice stuff Jason. I love these older Tamiya kits I think they are really good value, especially when you see them on special offer now and again in the likes of Hobbycraft.

Still got one in the stash. The gun and bike look ok but time has not been kind to the figures.

thanking you Jason for the memory I had built this in my youth and the 8ton half track with figures which is not the Famo by the way. But I still have this 88mm gun version in my stash. Just wondering what the comparison would now be compared to either Dragon or Trumpeter versions neither have I bought any, but just a thought anyone? 👍😎

Nice one Jason, I have never built this kit but now I want one, in fact I have only recently started building Tamiya kits having been otherwise engaged in the 70s
work , girlfriends etc. It still looks a decent kit considering it's age.
