I’m so happy and relieved I found this video. My neighbor and I struggled A LOT taking 5 of this lug nuts out. Now we can’t stop laughing. I’m absolutely replacing all of the lug nuts. Also, the lug wrench that comes with it is even worse. Come on FORD! My heart goes out to the people changing a tire on the highway.
Exactly my thoughts, these capped lugs are horrible, they just don't hold up. They make an easy task a huge ordeal. I had a dodge ram 1500 that had the same type , I had to replace them too. I appreciate the great feedback and thanks for watching.
Went to take the tires off the wife's 2016 Escape tonight for a brake flush and got stopped cold by the lug nuts. Neither 3/4" or 19mm seemed to want to fit. Already got one of them stripped out (but off at least). Started searching RUclips for tips on how to remove them and came across this video. Thanks so much for the info, have the new lug nuts inbound as I type.
Thank you so much for this video. I was about to perform the speed sensor repair after crossing upon your other video. This saved me a truckload of frustration. Just ordered your recommended lug nuts.
Thanks for the video. Just had the lug nuts on my wife’s 2017 Escape replaced at a nearby Ford dealership. They were ‘rusty and swollen’. EXPENSIVE lug nuts if you get them from Ford. If I have to do this again, I’ll get single piece replacements as you suggested and replace them myself. Thanks again.
Yes , definitely the worst situation to be in trying to change a tire with these. That was my thought when replacing these lugs , what if I was beside a busy freeway changing a flat. Thank you for the feedback, much appreciated.
@@s33therfan also wanted to note, no big box parts stores had the m12x1.5 acorn wheel nut in stock. Ppl please check with local stealership they know of this and should have some good solid nuts in stock. I was in a pinch and couldn’t wait for an Amazon shipment but got lucky and only paid 2 dollars each. Thank you sir for taking time to add the link which shows the nut spec.
OMG! We do! We just bought the car! I need to do work today n it with the wheel off and I can’t get them off! What size socket did you use? I missed it
I'm mad that this issue has been occurring for so long with no change. I have a 2017 Ford Escape. I got a flat and couldn't get the factory crank over the lug nut to get the tire off. It's insane. My fear is if I force the socket over the nut, I don't want to not be able to separate after loosening.
The day I learned so many factory lug nuts are capped, I was just floored on how dumb of a cost saving that is by the mfrs. Also I love that pittsburgh dead blow. Use mine all the time.
Thanks for the great feedback , and I am glad I'm not the only one that dislikes these capped lugs . BTW my new forged ones have been working great , no more problems getting a wheel off. Thanks for watching.
Thanks I have a 2017 Ford Escape SE and I am having same problem with a front passenger side tire it’s flat and I can’t get it off I’ve learned a lot of things about my Ford I know I won’t make the mistake and buy another one! How can something made in America be such a piece of crap???
I understand exactly how you feel. I know people get tired of hearing me rant about these capped lug nuts but they are horrible. If you get a flat and try changing this beside the highway , it is not happening. Youd have to carry a shot filled rubber mallet, appropriate socket , breaker bar and hammer on and remove each lug. A simple task turned into an ordeal. Even if the lugs seem pricey to some , they will be glad they spent the 30-40 dollars to get the forged. Thank you very much for the feedback.

These capped lugs seem to be some of the worst. Glad the video could help out and thank you for the feedback.

Thank you for the excellent feedback.
Thanks for this video. Dealership tried charging me $200 to replace all of them. This was very helpful.
Thank you so much for the excellent feedback

Just dealt with this…in a parking lot trying to put on spare! Damn you Ford!

Thank you for this video was having this exact problem, just ordered the Lugnuts thanks again
Thank you for watching.
Thank you for letting us know about this. It explains why my Ford Escape lug nuts keep turning and won't come off. very bad design by Ford.
Glad I could help . These forged lugs are great and look nice also. Thank you for watching.
I used McGard on a family member's Escape.
It was pricey but they're made in America.
Will they fit "S" trim with plastic covers? Bought some aftermarket nuts and they are too thin and don't hold them tightly
Can you use the wheel wrench that comes with the vehicle after you replace the nuts or will i have to carry a socket and ratchet
Yep had that issue yesterday, learned the hard way
Thanks for watching.
Thank you! This helps a lot!
Thank you , much appreciated.
Will these hold the hubcaps?
Thanks for video!
Thank you , glad this could help someone else. Last thing I would want is a flat tire and to deal with the capped lugs. Thanks for watching.

Yes , I was just pounding on a 3/4 socket. They get stuck a little but that seemed to work out the best. Thanks for watching.
Have these ones rusted over time?
No not at all. Thanks for the feedback.

Sorry to hear that , and thank you for sharing. I despise the capped lugs.

What the "H," Ford!?
Thanks for the vid! Now, time to find my mallet.
