Agreed!! Most gifted entertainer in history. Nobody to this day has come close to the level of fame and impact Elvis had. Nobody ever will. The voice and charisma are extraordinary!
Two years on and the best live version of this undoubted Elvis classic doesn't even have 100,000 views? Goddamn. What a crying shame. More than 60 years later, there remains something so compelling about Heartbreak Hotel - the mood, the echo, Floyd Cramer on piano and, most of all, Elvis' vocals. Not an easy song to do live but this brilliant rendition came closest to the audio master. Incidentally, I really like the live version recorded in 1969 at the The International Hotel - it's bluesier and fuller musically thanks to the soulful backing vocals from The Sweet Inspirations. Check it out.
Elvis gave a silk shirt to the writer of Hotel, Mae Boren Axton as a token of his appreciation. Then one day it disappeared and about two months later, she found her son wearing it! According to an interview she gave over 25 years ago.
wow, that ais so important. ps - singers often forget verses and substitute a previous verse. even big time opera singers in concert! of coure, people like you note that down as something important.
Elvis in the 50s and early sixties Nashville that's when he was at his best he did this song later on in his career but 1956 is the best version live and in studio early Elvis is when he was at his best
That's Bill Black, who with guitarist Scottie Moore, was added by Sam Phillips as a back musician on Elvis's first recordings. His later group, the Bill Black Combo, had instrumental hits such as WHITE SILVER SANDS & SMOKIE, PART 2.
All I listen to is Elvis since I can remember and I'm 35 now lol I never get bord . Pisses me off that all the good videos get taken off youtube like the Dorsey brothers show
It´s so funny how CBS or whoever it was threw in that orchestra trying to take the edge off the sound and make it more acceptable for society. Well they didn´t succeed, and that´s a good thing :D
In my honest opinion, the movie didn't do Elvis any justice. I saw it as a missed opportunity to tell the truth about his life. The movie only compounded more lies about Elvis (i.e., Elvis was never arrested for anything in his entire life, etc.).

It needs the echo on it though. The echo on the record was a recording first!
The 1960 something comeback show version was far better.

his entire unique genius encapsulated in one single song ! mind bogging
According to Quincey Jones’ wiki discography, he played 2nd trumpet in the house band that accompanied Elvis in this performance.
That's great to know.
Fun fact, one of those trumpets is Quincy Jones.
Would have loved to have been in the studio audience to see that.
I seen a program about Elvis and on it Paul McCartney said that this performance was one of the greatest artistic statements of the 20th century.
Please, do your best to name the program. Thanks!

Do you know where we can find the interview? I'd like to hear or read that one. Sounds amusing.
Very interesting to how Elvis played his guitar. He used the thumb for the strumming and bass run.
Watch how Scotty Moore plays his guitar, plectrum picking bass and his fingers playing the lead notes.
🔥🔥🔥
2020 - the hair, the suit the voice- wow!!!!!!!!!!!!
He did Everything perfect! No other ever has or will!👍
In this version he missed the repeat "although it's always crowded" verse and in the other 56 TV show he repeated the wrong verse twice.
Very observant.

yes, absolutely!
I can't believe this was considered rebellious at the time.
If you see and understand what entertainment and culture looked like at the time, it's easy to see.

Hosted by Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey.
If time travel were possible, most of his audience would be made up of time travellers. Maybe that’s why you can’t see them. 😂
