  • KWKH radio announcer Frank Page introduced Elvis on his first radio broadcast from the Louisiana Hayride inside Shreveport, Louisiana's Municiple Auditorium, October 16, 1954.
    He left Memphis on a Friday night, October 15, 1954, after a gig at the Eagles Nest, driving all night with Sam Phillips, Scotty Moore and Bill Black. They missed the turnoff in Greenville, Mississippi, because of Bill Black's clowning; later, Scotty Moore almost ran over a team of mules. Arriving in Shreveport the next morning, they checked into the Captain Shreve Hotel downtown.

    I can’t believe how well Austin Butler perfected his voice! It’s obviously not identical but I believe it’s as close as you can get without mixing Elvis’s voice with his like they did towards the end of the movie. I’m 22, and the movie definitely introduced me to Elvis! I now understand all the hype around this man. He’s truly amazing!

    • @bradhuskers
      @bradhuskers 2 года назад +37

      actually?
      Austin did a nice job.
      but he only came close on just a few early songs.
      in reality, Austin is nowhere near elvis's level.
      ONE listen to elvis's 1960 critically acclaimed recording of "it's now or never" and you'll immediately understand that fact

      @@bradhuskers did I say he was at Elvis’ level? No. I said he portrays him very well. He does a good job acting as Elvis while adding his own personality to it. There’s only one Elvis and nobody can perfectly reincarnate him in a movie, however, most of Austin’s covers of Elvis sound very similar to him in my opinion. One of the biggest differences I notice is Elvis’ voice is deeper than Austin’s.

      Again, you sound like a low IQ weak mind.
      Elvis's voice is BOTH higher and lower than Austin's.

    Mind boggling. A 19 year old kid who just a few months ago before this performance was driving a truck for Crown Electric. Now he’s on a stage doing something totally unheard of - mixing black rhythm & blues with country. And it’s not just the distinct sound and music, it’s his looks and his nervous body language and moves. He’s so nervous he has no idea his leg is shaking and making panties wet. 😂

      Elvis was still working for Crown Electric when he appeared on the Louisiana Hayride on Oct. 16, 54. He, Scotty and Bill quit their day jobs two week later in early Nov. as they were well received and the Hayride wanted them back regularly on weekends. They quit their jobs to focus 100% on their music, as opposed to doing mostly weekend gigs in Aug, Sept and Oct 54 after the release of That’s Allright Mama. Up to this first Hayride radio performance, they’d only done local weekend gigs around Memphis for no more than 2 1/2 months.

I recently went down the Elvis rabbit hole after seeing the movie and it was clear from what I found that not only did he have much love and respect for the black community, back then the black community cared for him as well. Elvis was called (forgive me) a “n” lover and was hung and burned in effigy because he did, indeed, spend a great deal of time in the black community and cherished it.

But I think the blues musicians in the south were raw talents and weren’t really “influenced” by much of the outside world, considering most of them worked on cotton plantations. The earliest blues players never left these plantations and the only other culture/race they interacted with was whites and that was their masters or bosses. That’s why the blues is considered the base of modern music because it was so raw.
