I like the differences in the way he sang the song. Always thought it had to do with Elvis' voice changing over the years and Elvis adapts the same song for comfort to his vocal ability. I suppose many singers voices change over the years, Johnny Cash and Tom Jones comes to mind. But Elvis had quite a spectacular change in a short amount of time and it seemed to fall in line with the type of material he was converting to. This might also be a good reason why Elvis' appeal was so wide spread because fans then like and choose particular periods. I loved the similarity between 'That's All Right' 1954, to the version he sang in Hawaii 1961. The 1961 voice could still do the '54 voice but had the maturity of the early 60's voice too. A wonderful and dynamic performer, quite umparalleled in all his facets

Not only thier voice but thier sound too, for Elvis it was just 3 or 2 guys in the 50s but in the 60s it seemed like thier was a 10 people and the 70s it was a 30 peice band. Same as Johnny Cash, his style was just simple two guys in the 50s/60s, but in the 70s and the 80s his style changed big time (90s and 2000s were just him sometimes) and if you know him, Waylon Jennings.

They wrote their own material, experimented with it, were great with their instruments as well, and shaped modern music. Post 66 stuff is far from generic and even pre 66 songs had some interesting structures and chords going on. Elvis was a singer and entertainer, who did not write his own stuff, who in 60s simply went out of fashion until his 68 comeback. Elvis was stuck in his cheap movies, so he couldn’t do anything great musically in Beatles time. While Beatles were something new unlike Elvis in 60s, but Elvis for sure was their idol and inspiration. You can’t say that Elvis was more or less talented then the Beatles, because they have actually two different jobs. Elvis was very underrated as producer, that’s the thing. In current times they seem both being on the same level of popularity though.

Post 66 stuff is far from generic and even pre 66 songs had some interesting structures and chords going on. Elvis was a singer and entertainer, who did not write his own stuff, who in 60s simply went out of fashion until his 68 comeback. Elvis was stuck in his cheap movies, so he couldn’t do anything great musically in Beatles time. While Beatles were something new unlike Elvis in 60s, but Elvis for sure was their idol and inspiration. You can’t say that Elvis was more or less talented then the Beatles, because they have actually two different jobs. Elvis was very underrated as producer, that’s the thing.
In current times they seem both being on the same level of popularity though.
