God bless all the truckers, without y'all we wouldn't have everything we take for granted....food, clothes, etc. Thank you & may God bless you as you drive every mile in all kinds of weathe❣️
amen lost one who was my first instant friend many years ago his fully loaded tanker trucker some how flipped and blew up. never got over the fact that he burned to death. I've been told he would not have felt any thing but somewhere In the back of my mind I wonder
For my daddy, Big Bill Woods, who had a massive heart attack behind the wheel in midday traffic but managed to pull the truck over before he passed. Dad, you are my hero
Great song. The story is about the virtues of sacrifice. It's almost a biblical them. I recall an old WWII movie. Think Robert Mitchum was lead actor. At the end the a Japanese pilot was about to bomb the shit out of Mitchum's young family but suddenly a Catholic priest fires up the truck on a suicide run. The Japanese gunner destroys the priest and his truck then flies off. Thinking that his work is done. And with the enemy gone Mitchum takes his family to safety.
But unfortunately we don’t get the respect we are due and despite that we still lug whatever to wherever for whoever week in week out. Everywhere but home 👋🏻.
I'm 48, learned all the trucker songs since I was 2 years old. My daddy drove a semi since I was born, he passed away in 2007. His name was Joe. This song means alot to me, like Teddy Bear, and many many more. TRUCKERS LIVES MATTER! ~ Whitney Eanes, Va
The first truck I ever drove was B model Mack. That was 47 years ago, and I retired from driving, not too long ago. To all brothers on the road; past, present, and future, safe miles and many smiles.
I know the daughter of the truck driver that saved those kids..she was just tellin me the story because I asked her why she had a pin of a dime on her badge. She told me the whole story. But you fo realize the folks that sing about truck drivers never drove a truck, right? Honestly I don't think too much of drivers today. I started driving in '86 and in the seventies learned how to twin stick in a bad ass Freight shaker that you literally had to climb into the sleeper. Still know how to twin stick and climbed doghouse into a sleeper. Walking were a luxury and I hate condo's. And... I will cut my own through before I would ever drive an automatic. I own many times over a 78 K100 big bunk flat top with a now 18 speed tranny. Can't put a 6×4 Spicer in in a cabover. Not enough room. But if it had a hood I would damn sure have a hole cut out. My truck originally had a 365 Kitty Cat in front of a 15 speed. Still got the deep reduction switch for looks though on the dash. The only difference is I can split the bottom and top ends instead of just the top. So hard to keep the truck original now. The steering wheel is a hard plastic Beige thee spoke. That is even special order. Even the high low switch has to be special ordered. Always park where the lot lizards are on "partyrow" 'cause all the curb sniffer drivers can't walk that far. Right? Before anyone ever goes out and rescues an older truck think insurance. A 78 K100 is just a 78 K100 no matter how much money you dump into it. You can fight Swift's insurance company if you wanna try but you won't win if your truck is totalled out by them. Insurance is a tax write off. So insurance it. I have dumped probably estimating 700 thousand dollars in this truck to keep it like new not to mention 100 thousand on a 15 thousand dollar purchase. I pay extra insurance. I probably love my truck as much as I love my wife. My wife is 50 and my truck looks brand new. Thank God I am old because it's getting harder and harder to keep her looking like new. But she's like me. The interior is the original KW high end diamond tuck even the doghouse. Harder and harder to find upholstered to keep it original nowdays.
My Dad was a truck driver for over 40 years. He. Loved his job and being a truck driver. He drove coast to coast and state to state. He was always gone. Pam Maes My younger days , with my dad was trucker driver back then, 1970s truck strikes. Was lots hard times back then, love classic hit songs of truck songs and Country Music sound. Be oldest child , listen to Cb radio. Lots great memories lots great country music artists, when got see Fan Fair back 1989 lots country music artists at Booth. To me was like dream come true. All years listening on radio stations, most back then some go off air my midnight hours , then Trucker show after hours. Nice remember classic hits songs. Loretta Lynn Birthday coming up April 14 1932. Still writing songs. Today but slower. And Dolly Pardon well got Nascar Racing make up of Dolly Pardon Photo. So beautiful. In Bristol, Tennessee . Did got see Tanya Tucker free show one day , all classic hits songs. Got see Eddie Rabbits in concert now he pass away, Merle Haggard he past away but his music live on Forever. And Tammy Wynette die 1998 in April sure 5 or 6 but lay lay her rest on my birthday April 9 th. Nice keep County music in your heart Forever.
you have a good ear for music Pam.....I named my only daughter after Tanya Tucker in 1980, when Tanya was tearing up the airwaves. Also 2 other trucker songs are "18 Wheels" and "Roll On"...
Red came from an era when you could turn on the radio and listen real music. AND RED SOVINE WAS ONE OF THE GREATS !! I hardly turn a radio on anymore. THERE IS NOTHING TO LISTEN TO !!
when i was about 10 , me and my mom were driving down the highway and we came over a hill and traffic was stopped . a 18 wheeler was next to us doing 65mph atleast and as soon as he seen the cars were stopped , he hit the exit that was on his right. there was no doubt that he was going to flip when he swerved onto that exit and he knew it was going to when he swerved. the truck flipped as soon as the exit curved and i swear the truck was still sliding when i saw the door fly open and the driver climbing out. it amazed me and i knew that that man saved alot of lives when he took that exit and he did it knowing that it was no gonna go well for him. he was a hero in my eyes.
I'm 45 and my dad was a long haul truck driver. He had this album and i remember listening to it as a young child; original vinyl on a turntable, I believe. Could of been 8 track too, I guess. Anyway, I relate to what you said cuz I remember them so clearly. Just introduced my 12 year old daughter to them.
The terms- Large Car/ pick'em uptruck, redideo(radio) hammer down/ Monfort Lane and pickle parks will always be apart of you- and although you may not know it- but asphalt is in your blood- I'll be 67 and had to quit '85 and it still seems like yesterday.
It's 2021 and I'm here cuz my old man told me to listen to some red sovine and this and teddy bear were rhe first 2 songs I listened to....we need to keep the word about artists and songs like these, this doesn't get to the young folks and they tend to forget and repeat history....we need more music like this to bring empathy back to the human being were sooooo cold now a days its absurd were going into a depression as I type this and it's because we've lost touch w people like this over the years....
I have been a driver for 25years now and i can honestly say a lot of weird things happen on the hwy but it's songs like this that tell people how much heat true truckers have...
I drove over the road for 43 years, still kickin'' & missing that Way of Life! Never was a Job for me, just came natural. These songs will never grow old, just us old drivers! 75 and still alive! ( Still got my CDL!)
Hats off to you sir, may you live a long, happy, and healthy life.. Enjoy your retirement, sir, you earned it. Best regards from a 33yo dispatcher that will jump in a fire for his 53ft dry van drivers rolling in my fleet.. God knows that we need more OG drivers knowing how to drive stick shift as they are becoming extremely rare.
Thank you! It's definitely a lifestyle that can affect you in a negative way if you are not careful with everything you do. I've gained 70 pounds in three years because I have not been careful. Time to change the way I do everything!
Amen and thanks, hardest part to me is being away from momma and the kids. Thankful momma understands it's in my blood, pop was a driver too. (R.I.P. pop, love and miss ya dearly even after 15yrs)
My dad ran trucks for over 20yrs. His prettiest rig was an R model Mack, white with a slight blue hue. Me and the neighborhood kids loved her sound. Dads still kicking, and still one of heroes. God bless you Phantom 309
God blessed us with all the truckers, because of them we get to have oranges in the winter. Because of them people get to eat many varities of food year round. God bless all you extraordinary TRUCKERS!!!!!!!!!!
OMG, so nice to see/hear some good older tunes. I have this disc. I'm 55, my dad has always instilled this music in our family, thank God. Great Dad and truck driver. Love you Dad!!
Love this song , reminds me of my Dad. He drove trucks for more than 40 years. God Bless Our Truck Drivers .The ones have gone on and the ones still here.
this gets me every time. lost my dad to a semi crash, some drunk driver in a jacked pickup cut him off, he swirved to avoid the truck, he lost control and slammed into a pine tree, the kingpin on the flatbed trailer he was hauling broke, the trailer went through the cab, killing him instantly, I was at the convince store across the street from my house watching the news as it came on, just a mangled mess, I didn't know it was him til they said his name. I broke down right there in the middle of the store.
My dad drove a truck for 45 years, all he knew from cabbage town Georgia ,he was carrying 80 thousand lbs had a massive heartattack while behind the wheel he went off the road in Covington ga,I love these truckers and everything thing they do
Alex Hayer From Queensland Australia I lost my brother 12 years ago he fell asleep during the night driving an 8 wheel Scania paper truck veered to the left woke up and overcorrected and flipped the truck he suffocated with seat belt still fastened couldn't get it off with the truck on it's side. I knew there was something wrong when my mother called me at work. Sorry about your father I'd say you'll meet up with him on the other side.
This brings back memories I've driven a 359 pet for a lot of miles and I'm 67 and tried it the trucks aren't the same people aren't the same for in my time as we had family at home but also we had family out one the road and that's what made truckers that cared
I'm a retirement truck driver! So was dad,my oldest son, 3 of my uncles and now my grand daughter, ilove you all. And I love you Kat! You made it possible for me to make it for 45 (or so) years. I will miss you and dad till I get to my last stop!
I have never been a truck driver but I sure do appreciate all you truck drivers for what you do. I don’t know how you handle all the traffic. Thank you and God bless you all !
I am glad you are hear listening to some real music about real folks. I grew up on this music as my dad was a truck driver that could drive everything from long haul, log truck, and local. I love this music and like most of you that are here, I miss my dad who taught me to be a man and appreciate what we have. Miss you dad.
Amen to that ... I drove for 5 yrs and missed a lot with my son growing up Got held up,shot in the back but at least I was there to watch him and a little later his sister grow up👍
My papaw was a truck driver his handle was "Victor 7" his call sign when he was in the Army he was on the road for a better part of 15 years so I have the upmost respect for truckers and what they do and as a send off for all you truckers out there and a reference from teddy bear by Mr Sovine "May God ride with you 10-4 and goodbye" keep your rubber squealing and those rigs wheeling y'all are the backbone of this nation God bless you all !!!
Proud of you.I started driving a big rig in 1982 helped paved the way for all women. The thought I should be at home barefoot an pregnant. I already had a daughter an grand daughter. If you love you can do the work. Only a Texas wind storm stopped me.My life was spared but my driving was over an I miss it so.Have a F150 in the drive way. And A Song written about my career. Only need someone to put it on the air.Drivers are getting the praise now like never before. The Red Irish Rose
I grew up listening to alot of trucker songs. I was raised with alot of truckers. My Uncle and 3 oldest brother are still making a living truck driving. God watch over them.
I drove long haul for the U.S. Army 1976, 1977 and 1978 while I was a soldier. I listened to all of his songs plus many others. This brings back so many memories. Always puts a smile on my face!

First time hearing this since childhood. My dad was a truck driver. He passed about 5 years ago. I used to listen to these songs in his truck with him. I didn't enjoy it when I was young but would love to take one more ride with him anywhere. This song stirred a lot of emotion and memories.
I love this Trucking music so much as a hitchhiker through seven different countries that's not a joke and a lot of Truckers my dad was a trucker now this what I enjoy cuz I'm stuck in bed with peripheral neuropathy a couple beers some pizza and some good Tunes God bless you all

My dad was truck driver I'm 58 years old and still love to drive truck but the stories has told me can put chills on your back but to all your future truck drivers or shall I say drivers may you have a safe and a blessed run
My dad taught me about this music 40+ years ago, he hauled heavy equipment, between him and his brothers, there wasn't a machine they couldn't haul or run. Rest easy dad, Big Bill Woods, and all the Woods' brothers, George, John, Ritchie, Jimmy, Bobby and Ronnie, miss all of you
I lay in my sleeper of my W900L and after 33 years of living out here on the road. I listen to this song that I have listen to as a young man. I say to myself where did all the years and miles go . Hopefully my spirit will keep rolling down the highways and back roads of this great country we call America after I'm gone . God Bless America and all the Truck Drivers of our great country.
Red Solvine and Tom T Hall are the story tellers i have listen to for years and the words in there songs have told the story's of thousands of peoples lives . I am so glad we have had people to sing these songs its sad we won't have these kind of singers in our future the times have changed so much . Thanks Red and Tom !! Sing these songs in heaven to the Truck drivers and there family from our past and every time i hear them i will play them in honor to you two. God bless.
My grandfather passed away of a heart attack while he was waiting to be weighed. Used to ride with him all the time. He'd let me use the CB radio and talk to his friends. RIP and massive respect to all truck drivers.
I had 2 strokes about a year and a half . Then a heat stroke about 2 months ago my heart stopped twice and I'm still waiting to get back in my truck 65 years young
I dove rig for 28 years and trucker songs are what kept me going. Those long nights full of crossroads and 357's if your an old timer you know what both them are.
I grew up hearing this song and when I was 14 my foster dad and his son inlaw taught me how to drive truck and that is what I ended up doing when I got older my CB handle was Peacemaker I'm 66 now and I really miss it!😢
My son is 2, I hope one day to be A HERO to my Son that is everything in me. I hadn’t planned on having any children, I was A late bloomer, lol, I’m 45 with A 4 year old Beautiful Daughter, They are the light of my life,
I just retired after 40 years behind the wheel of many types of trucks, mostly semi,s. I miss the friends i met along the way. I hope you find comfort in knowing your dad loved you and worked hard for his family. Take Care. Paul Anderson
my grandpa was a truck driver and he passed away recently, DONT YOU DARE PUT DOWN TRUCK DRIVERS IT IS BECAUSE OF THEM THAT WE HAVE FOOD AND ALL THE REST OF OUR COMMODITIES
+gojisaur1954 buddy you didn't even listen to the words of the song. the Bus driver didn't die nor did any of the kids. the truck never hit the Bus. big Joe drove the truck off a cliff so he wouldn't hit them he's the only one who died.
im the son of a trucker in 2014 nov 14th my father fliped a kenworth and broke his back in 7 places he hasn't been the same since im lucky to still have him around as his rig ''the white ghost'' was on the edge of a cliff. god bless truckers
My papa god bless him is still with me he is a trucker and a pastor he is a great role model for me and he showed me all of these and I just got hooked on these songs
Before my dad passed away Aug 18 2018 he wanted me to download red. I did and he loved it. Teddy bear. Everytime he picked me up he had her blaring. R.I.P DAD 😢😢
I grew up loving and riding in big riggs with my brother in law he was one of the best men in my life later on I married a trucker and he himself put his own life at risk to save another, the other driver lived as did my husband I'm proud to be a truckers wife and I have to admit every single time he's on the road I pray guardian angels surround his rig. Every time I hear this song it gives me chills and makes me cry for the big guy
This reminds me about my grandpa. He was a family man. He would give the shirt off his back for people. Hearing this song during makes mt eyes tear up. Even though hes been gone since 97 it still hurts. He was the cornerstone of my start on life
This song reminds me of my Brother n Law Jerry who went straight into a concrete embankment to above a drive who pulled out in front of him a station wagon full of kids .. took 3 hours to get him out of the Truck !! We almost lost him but Jerry pulled through !! Thanks to the Drs in South bend Indiana
Still makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up like it did the first time I heard it oh so many years ago. From an ex-trucker that appreciates those that still do. Take care, stay safe, cool and free. ....
I’m a retired long hauler. These songs mean more than most know. God bless Truckers. 🤠🇺🇸

Chills. Exactly.
Red died in 1980 I was born in 1992 but I find this song great at my 32.
A childhood favorite? I don't member hearing it. Don't anything about barney either, but then I had a dad who didn't believe in wasting time.

I have listen to Red all my life. My step dad was a trucker.
Red sovine was a legend. Love this song.
Hello how are you
Hello Ralph how are you doing today?
Dad drove for 18 years he died when I was 10 years old i am 68 years old now I still miss him and cry when I hear this every time
This man wrote the best ballads ever. I never grow tired of this song.
I have been a driver for 25years now and i can honestly say a lot of weird things happen on the hwy but it's songs like this that tell people how much heat true truckers have...
It still amazes me the things we saw out on those highways. For me I-80, I-74, I- 55 mostly. The cross roads of America.
Model T was there

Hello Clint how are you doing today?
No, Your not the only one listening to these songs in 2020. I love these songs. My oldest son drives a rig. He stays out a week at a time.

Trucking is a hard life god bless r truckers
Thank you.
Thank you! It's definitely a lifestyle that can affect you in a negative way if you are not careful with everything you do. I've gained 70 pounds in three years because I have not been careful. Time to change the way I do everything!
Yes god bless all truck drivers
Yes sir, God bless our Truck Drivers!

Hello how are you doing ????.
Hello Danny how are you doing today?
This song gets me every time. You can see it in your mind while he's telling the story.
this gets me every time. lost my dad to a semi crash, some drunk driver in a jacked pickup cut him off, he swirved to avoid the truck, he lost control and slammed into a pine tree, the kingpin on the flatbed trailer he was hauling broke, the trailer went through the cab, killing him instantly, I was at the convince store across the street from my house watching the news as it came on, just a mangled mess, I didn't know it was him til they said his name. I broke down right there in the middle of the store.
I am so sorry for your loss 😢😢😢
So sorry for your loss may he rest in peace.
My dad drove a truck for 45 years, all he knew from cabbage town Georgia ,he was carrying 80 thousand lbs had a massive heartattack while behind the wheel he went off the road in Covington ga,I love these truckers and everything thing they do
So sorry for your loss
Alex Hayer From Queensland Australia I lost my brother 12 years ago he fell asleep during the night driving an 8 wheel Scania paper truck veered to the left woke up and overcorrected and flipped the truck he suffocated with seat belt still fastened couldn't get it off with the truck on it's side. I knew there was something wrong when my mother called me at work. Sorry about your father I'd say you'll meet up with him on the other side.
I am an old man who was a kid when this came out. Red Sovine sure made some great story telling songs. Thanks! Subscribed.

Hey
Been driving for 22 years, I don't think I ever heard a better story than this out of any truck stop or from the other end of the radio
This reminds me about my grandpa. He was a family man. He would give the shirt off his back for people. Hearing this song during makes mt eyes tear up. Even though hes been gone since 97 it still hurts. He was the cornerstone of my start on life
