I picked up this CRAZY painted chest of drawers from my local Habitat for Humanity ReStore. It was stinky and I initially walked away from it. Got into my car. Sat there. Went back in.
I'm so glad I went back for it, but uncovering the original finish and construction was definitely stressful, because I had NO idea what would be under that paint. Sometimes pieces are painted purely as a matter of taste/style at the time, but sometimes they are painted because they are damaged beyond restoration.
I ended up with a very unique almost ombre effect on the drawers, quite by accident but it looked so neat I decided to leave it and almost feature it! I'm thrilled with how this turned out, and every time I walk past it, I love it more and more.
I hope you enjoy this insane transformation!

For some reason, I get the warm fuzzies when I see you take a piece of furniture that was doubtless in a little girl's room -- and she LOVED it because it was purple or pink or something -- and turn it into something that the grown woman she became would also love. 🙂

Keep doing that. I've always hated getting surprises ruined, even as a child at Christmas! :D

Most of the time you give lots of love and attention to neglected aging pieces. But this time, you turned a truly hideous piece of furniture into a work of art with natural beauty.

That’s a gamble that paid off!!! Wow wow wow! How gorgeous is that wood? They must have used it in a child’s room when these pieces were out of style.

Wow, that is quite the transformation. As unattractive as the paint job was, I have to say they were pretty thorough. Lots of scraping for you. Great job and I'll check out your website.

That was a great decision! The black handles and the ombré effect of the drawers really make them pop! Beautiful resurrection of this piece.

Putting the drawer with the vertical veneer on the bottom and then arranging the others as you did was brilliant. And painting the handles worked beautifully. I’m 75, so grew up with mid-century modern, and wasn’t a fan from an early age onwards. But this piece really speaks to me.
And you’re right-no one would believe the before without the video!

Wow! 😍This looks absolutely amazing. The pink was kinda funky, in its own way, but your restoration of the wood and the black makes it a quality, high-end piece. And I loved the clips of Nacho...is that cat getting cuter every day or what???😻

I appreciate your attention to detail and the fact you clean and “finish” not only the outside but the inside , back, and bottom. So many refinishers focus on the outside only. That has always bothered me. Your method is so much more professional!

I was also hoping it would be a little bit longer- it can be hard sometimes to hold attention when it's a lot of the same thing (for example, it was a day and a half just of scraping).
