    The following coins are legal tender in the UK:
    All regular circulation coins: 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, £1 and £2 pieces;
    Commemorative coins: 25p Crowns, £2 old style coins, £5 Crowns, £20, £50 and £100 coins;

    That's why they didn't want it, because it doesn't fit in with their SYSTEM and once a system is up and running in these places, you can't break "The system" ! ! !

    A few years ago I had some commemorative 25p coins and gave them to my kids to spend on sweets in the local shop, the shopkeeper must of thought they were 50p coins and gave them change, so I went to the bank and got fifty pounds worth and for ages the shop accepted them as 50p.
    You might think that’s theft but if they are that daft who am I to question their stupidity.
    The kids said he didn’t put them in the till but put them on a shelf behind him.

      @@barneybiggles Why not just pay the man in the usable money? You're saving 25p but you're doing a member of the working class out of money that he probably can't afford to lose. Very difficult to deal with I'd imagine and to be honest I wonder why she's on the front counter. She didn't seem a people person. Oh well. At least rationality prevailed with the Manager. "Barclaycard" and "Barclays Bank" are both simply trading styles of Barclays Bank UK PLC. If you sue Barclaycard and name that entity as the Defendent on your claim form, your claim will probably fail. The Judge will tell you why your claim failed and to make a new Application using their legally registered business name and address. ie Barclays Bank UK PLC. 1 Churchill Place, Canary Wharf, London E14 5HP

    The only place that these coins are legal tender is in payment to a court. The banks and shops have no obligation to accept them and the royal mints web site confirms this. The bank is within their rights to refuse them and issue legal proceedings against you, including placing you on whatever bad debitors list they like. You can discharge your debt by paying these coins to the court BUT you will not be able to have your name and details removed from any bad debitors list.....one day you are going to come across a shop that will consider legal proceedings less trouble than taking the loss, when that happens good luck obtaining credit in the future. Is it worth it Julian?
